5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing coffee grinder
Loving this product: speedy, light, not too big. Just right
4.0 out of 5 stars So far so good
I purchased this based on the review that explained how to open it up and adjust it if the grind was not fine enough because I love to mess with things. But so far no need! I'm not a super coffee nerd but I use the full range of grinds available and the fine is absolutely fine enough for espresso. There is a potential problem with mess because grinds will drop out after removing the container but this is avoidable once you remember to give it a side to side knock about before removing the container. The static however is a real problem, I think it's crazy that they wouldn't upgrade to a glass container to save a few cents. I've replaced the original with a glass measuring jug that doesn't even fit in that well but there is still no mess and way less static. It's also quieter than I was expecting. So early days and of course it could give up tomorrow but one month in and I'm happy.Update after exactly 12 months:The grinder electronics started to go a bit random. Sometimes the + and - buttons refused to function and sometimes they worked as normal. I called Bolo and in fairness they are replacing it with no quibble but I just thought I'd update this because I do now have questions about the quality. This machine gets used once or twice a day and I don't think it should have started to malfunction after only 12 months.
5.0 out of 5 stars The scale is at the BOTTOM
This is a great, high-quality grinder for the price. There's no point listing all the features, as you can see them above.I've been using a cheaper automatic grinder and what primarily drew me to this was the built-in scales. Being able to avoid getting out scales *and* grind directly into a cafetière sounded great. However, things don't work as I'd expected.I wrongly assumed that as I put beans into the top area, I'd see how much I'd put in there. This would be great, as I previously would weigh the beans, grind them and then transfer the ground coffee into my cafetière. Unfortunately for my assumptions, the Calibra weighs *after* grinding, not before. This is unfortunate, as I'm not the only one who uses a grinder. I didn't want to have to dump beans into the grinder and then remove the beans that haven't been ground.Other than needing to put more into the storage area and remove the excess afterwards - I share the grinder and different people use different beans - the problem for me is that it's necessary to get this machine to weigh the cafetière so I can grind directly into it and avoid transferring the grounds afterwards. This probably sounds like a lot of complaining, but my assumptions were the problem here. Everything else about this machine is great; it's well made, very high quality indeed and has a great deal of grinding options. It's a huge improvement over my previous grinder and I am happy with it. I just wish the scale was able to weigh the beans prior to grinding them.I primarily wrote this review to point out the obvious; that the built-in scales are at the bottom, not the top. I imagine doing it the other way around isn't possible from an engineering perspective, or would be pretty problematic. After all, you'd be putting a scale right under/above the burr.
5.0 out of 5 stars Quick, not too noisy, nice even grounds
I've hesitated making the jump to buying coffee beans because of the cost of buying a "good enough" grinder. What prompted me in the end is that realistically I don't see me buying an espresso machine without a pressurised basket, so don't need a machine capable of grinding fine enough coffee for "proper" espresso.I use this with a DeLonghi espresso machine (pressurised basket), a mokka pot, and a Cafetiere.ProsFreshly ground beans every morning :DIt seems to do a decent job of grinding nice and even (a bit less even as you go coarser, but coffee from my cafetiere is improved from having a coarser grind, as compared to Lavazza pre-groundIt's really not that noisyIt's quick - it takes a second or two to get going, but then it's approximately 1.5s per cup you're grindingThe icons on the scale give you a good starting point to choose the appropriate grind levelBeing able to let the machine weigh out the coffee as it grinds is incredibly helpfulConsThe plastic container for the grounds suffers from static (I get around that by using a small glass jam jar to collect the grounds)There isn't much space for a grounds container, but I had a short jam jar which does the trickIt's not exactly cheap - you need to switch a lot of coffee shop made coffees to have at home to make the cost backOverall, I'm really happy with the grinder, and my coffee is improved, so a good result.
Mycket bra kaffekvarn
