5.0 out of 5 stars Much better than crutches!
Immediately felt a sense of relief once I assembled this product and was able to move around the house freely. It is heavy, sturdy and does not have a great turning circle but it is MUCH easier to use than crutches or a walker and allows me to cook, wash-up and many more tasks. The cross channel on the seat is an important feature because it means I can have the the scooter parallel to a work top and kneel on it when I am working in the kitchen or have it parallel to the sofa and use the scooter as a footstool to elevate my leg.On the second day I had it I was able to go outside to to the postbox ten minutes walk away and post my vote. This scooter needs a bit of care to use in tight spaces in the house or uneven pavements but I am so glad I got it!The only slight glitch was it took me a few minutes to realise that, in order to use the "handbrake" function on my example, both brakes had to be applied simultaneously.
5.0 out of 5 stars Knee scooter
I bought this knee scooter with the idea of adapting it for my own situation. I am an above knee amputee so I thought I’d be able to put a seat on and scoot. It works so incredibly well, I’m over the moon. The scooter frame is strong, the steering good and it is well balanced. The bag is big enough to put a small amount of groceries in or I emptied the dishwasher by putting a few things in the bag at a time. I walk my elderly husky with it, being careful, it is a joy to get out and about in an upright position compared to sitting in a wheelchair all day. I’m looking forward to using it to plant up my greenhouse come the growing season. The big wheels are good on tarmac, gravel and short grass. I can’t comment on using it as a knee scooter as I can’t use it as it was intended to be used, but recommend its sturdiness and usefulness.
4.0 out of 5 stars Easier than crutches but super tall!
This product is certainly more comfortable than crutches (I broke my ankle in two places). However, it’s SUPER TALL. Even when the pad is on the lowest setting I need to walk on my tippy toes on my good foot - and I am not short (I’m 5’8”). I would warn short people to measure carefully before purchasing. The device itself is good but a little cumbersome. However, I give 4 stars for sturdiness and maneuverability because each day it’s a little better for me. I expect it just takes practice. Also, be sure you have a tire pump to inflate the wheel (something I did not think about when I ordered it, but it could not be used without the tires being inflated first). Finally, (and this was my own misunderstanding, no fault of the seller) you cannot sit on this scooter and move. You can sit on the seat and rest for a moment, but it really is not built for sitting and scooting. You need to look at the more expensive models if you want to sit and scoot.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great for indoor independence
Bought this 2wks ago after breaking my ankle & it's been great for indoor mobility. The wheels are solid, not tyres so it's not the best outdoors & on uneven ground.Definitely recommend buying a cushioned cover as it's a little hard & go slowly, cautiously at first, it's not at all like riding a scooter.
3.0 out of 5 stars Run forrest run
The scooter is pretty good and pretty easy to put together. The knee seat feels like a brink. If you have a full boot on the long ones then you're going to have problems the top of the boot near your knee does not fit right making it uncomfortable to use and it pushing the toe part of the boot up so be careful if you just had surgery. The scooter seems to work ok but not great maybe it's not right hight for me and I need to change it. The problem I found is that the wheels are hard and could cause problems if you go over a bump. The scooter in away does what it says but it's also does not say the negative things that may cause people to feel more pain. I don't think many people with leg or ankle injury with be able to feel comfortable on a knee seat seat and that could cause a problem. There is a away to fix it but I have not tried to see if it any better but that is to buy a memory foam seat cover.
5.0 out of 5 stars More convenient than crutches after ankle fracture/surgery
I bought this after 2 weeks of struggling with my crutches following an ankle fracture and surgery. The crutches were destroying my wrists and arms. The scooter means I can get around the house easily, allows me to stand in the kitchen to prepare food and carry things. Gives you some independence and has helped me mentally during the month I had to be non-weight bearing. I haven’t taken it outside much because I have a flight of stairs ti get out the house but it is easy to fold, would likely still need some assistance to get it in and out a car for example. Worth the money to make what could be a miserable time a bit more bearable
5.0 out of 5 stars Good
Very good
Fabulous quality
This is my second scooter because our first one we bout 10 yrs ago and used for 8 different surgeries for 3 different people finally wore out and it had small hard wheels so was not great for different floor types but this scooter is all terrain super smooth ride perfect transition from hard wood to carpet no bumping and great outdoors with super sturdy handle bars and great height adjustment. I did buy an extra thick gel pad for the knee as the foam ones dont last. I also switched the soft pouch for a hard basket to attach to the front because the soft pouch is not sturdy but i already had the pad and basket from my old scooter. This is a high quality scooter without the high price because there are similar scooters that are double the price. This one is great!
Outstanding Sturdiness and a Comfort for those with foot surgery.
When faced with the daunting challenge of recovering from major foot surgery, I discovered a beacon of hope and mobility in the Vive Mobility All Terrain Knee Scooter Walker. This remarkable device is not merely a tool for getting around; it is a lifeline that restored my independence and significantly improved my quality of life during a critical period of healing.Crafted with meticulous attention to detail and a clear understanding of the needs of those recovering from foot, ankle, or lower leg injuries, the Vive Mobility Knee Scooter is a testament to innovative design and engineering. Its robust build quality immediately instills confidence, ensuring users that they are supported by a device that can withstand the rigors of daily use, while also being gentle on recovering bodies. The scooter's standout feature, its 12-inch pneumatic wheels, offers unparalleled stability across a myriad of terrains. Whether navigating the soft carpet of my living room, the uneven gravel paths of local parks, or the bustling sidewalks of the city, the scooter glided with an ease that made mobility feel almost effortless. This ease is further enhanced by the scooter's dual rear-disk brake system, which provides exceptional control and safety, even on gentle inclines or uneven surfaces.Another aspect of the scooter that deserves high praise is the contoured knee pad. Designed with the user's comfort in mind, the foam cushion cradles the lower leg, distributing pressure evenly to alleviate pain and reduce fatigue in the hip, knee, and leg. This thoughtful design made each journey on the scooter not just possible, but comfortable. The Vive Mobility Knee Scooter is also remarkably user-friendly in terms of adjustability and storage. The height-adjustable cushioned knee platform and steering handle ensure a perfect fit for users of various heights, enhancing comfort and control. Moreover, the convenience of the removable knee platform and folding steering handle cannot be overstated, making storage and transport a breeze.Perhaps what sets this scooter apart the most is the included storage bag, a simple yet incredibly useful addition. It allowed me to carry my essentials securely, adding a layer of practicality and independence that traditional crutches could never offer. In conclusion, the Vive Mobility All Terrain Knee Scooter Walker is not just a mobility aid; it is a game-changer for anyone recovering from foot, ankle, or lower leg surgery. Sturdy, comfortable, and highly maneuverable, it stands as a testament to the fact that with the right support, recovery can be a journey of empowerment and independence. It was worth every penny, and I cannot recommend it highly enough to anyone facing a similar journey to recovery.
Sturdy well designed Knee Scooter...beware, not so good on open pavement though!
I got this knee scooter the day after my foot surgery, it was pretty easy to assemble quickly - even my wife who is not mechanically inclined figured most of it out within minutes. The only confusing part for her was the locking lever on the front of the Vive scooter (metal hand with a spring screw)...she wasn't sure how it worked. The key is to first pull the handle vertically so it fits over the bracket, next rotating down where the handle bottom faces down (see photos). After building it, we put on the Vive knee cushion (HIGHLY RECOMMEND as the seat is not very cushiony) I had ordered separately onto the seat and we were off and running. It is very stable and keeps its balance fairly well in turns. The brakes work well, but they are just a metal plate (see photo) that bears down on the polyurethane wheels...so braking can be somewhat less than smooth if you are going at any speed (ie. downhill). Both brake handles operate the same metal plate against both back wheels (no brakes on front wheels which is good - don't want to flip forward!) so it doesn't matter which brake you engage. You can LOCK the brake in place which his a GREAT feature using a spring loaded metal pin (see photo) - you just have to squeeze the brake handle pretty good to ensure the pin can be pushed down and stay engaged properly.Warning - pavement not as good as in your house. Probably goes without saying but if you're on polyurethane wheels like this Vive scooter has, every rock, pebble, acorn, gap in the sidewalk has the potential to make your handle jump to one side or the other depending on which wheel hit it. That means its pretty slow going if you see any rough pavement, dirty pavement, gappy sidewalks, textured bump ramps (many handicap ramps are ribbed), etc. If thats a show stopper for you and you aren't a careful person outside - opt for a more expensive "off-road" air tire version of the knee scooter. Otherwise, if you take it slow...it won't be the greatest ride, but at least you can make it through the road junk without sending your scooter flying to one side or another. I did ride this scooter in the rain (not by choice mind you) and it performed very well..didn't slide everywhere and this is where those metal brakes actually worked better. lolThe bag....what a lifesaver. This knee scooter came with a nice nylon removable lightweight knapsack type bag complete with a shoulder strap. I was able to shuffle around my house putting food, drinks, my laptop, cell phone, etc etc. and get from place to place. Just a very nice touch to be included with the scooter. The only knock? Well the mount bracket is two metal prongs that you have to slide a very very narrow nylon attachment on the bak over the metal prongs to hang it (see pic). Meh...its a pain in the keister to get it on. But I plan to just add some industrial velcro onto that nylon area and just velcro strap it onto the handle - presto instant upgrade. :)This scooter is not "lightweight" per se at roughly 25 lbs...but it does have a collapsable handle. Disengaging that metal locking braket mechanism allows you to fold down the handle (turn the wheel to get it past the seat then rotate it back to the center after it clears the seat). I wish they had provided a strap to allow you to then strap in the folded handle against the seat...but alas, nothing a little trip to the store for a velcro strap to make it betta. This will fit folded in most larger sedans back seats, trunks, and certainly in any SUV/Minivan or taxi with a deep trunk.Final thoughts: Great scooter, sturdy, more of an indoor device but can easily be used outdoors if you take it slow over pavement/sidewalks. If they had offered this with air tires without charging an arm and let I might have gone that route but as it is, for the $130+ bucks I paid...this is a good investment. Second foot surgery...here I come!
Double Ankle Fracture - This is the ONE you want!
I never write reviews but this has been a LIFESAVER!!! I (female, 5’5”/late 50’s) broke my ankle in 2 places mid-May and have been non-weight bearing for 6 weeks. I purchased a different scooter for ~$159 from Bolo (5/20) and it was great until a plastic piece on one of the wheels broke in week 4! I got nervous about it fully breaking and losing all the recovery ground I’d made. Bolo ok’d me to return the other one (!) and purchased THIS much better scooter!! I was desperate to get this new scooter asap and was able to text the company to request expedited shipping and they said 2-4 days was included in the price. For my order I got it in TWO DAYS!!The nubby tires are much more stable going over driveway gravel, rocks, sidewalk bumps, and inside floor thresholds (old house) etc. These tires are also squishier so the ride is MUCH smoother and I thought the curved knee pad might be bothersome but you can adjust your knee easily even with a cast that comes right up to your knee. The better construction of this scooter is worth the extra money and piece of mind! While I liked the disc brake action on the other scooter better vs this one, there are two mental pieces that grab the tires, which works just fine going up/down slight grades. The construction of this is perfect for large men too because the knee part and handles can go much higher. Because I am 5’5”, I might ask my husband to adapt the lowest knee setting maybe an inch lower, but after three days on it I am getting better - it’s just as easy to bend a bit to zip along (really minor point, but good note for women). It’s rugged and solid - - which I need for living on a farm with a gravel driveway and uneven grass. It’s also great across bumpy and asphalt parking lots if your husband takes you to lunch! There’s a simple lever to flip to have the handle bars bend down to go into a car trunk. And, the carrying bag is a great size - fits everything for a run to Walmart, etc. I was optimistic about my getting my cast off and put a pair of sneakers in the bag (not needed because I got a walking cast). The freedom the scooter gives you really helps your mental and keeps the muscles working. Remain positive - you will get through this recovery phase!!!
As good as it gets
I find it very difficult to use comfortably. I am hoping I will get used to using it. The quality is great. The assembly is fairly easy and fast. It's a good product if you need one!!
