5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect companion for Heos setup
I bought the Denon RDC N10 as the last piece of the jigsaw to my existing Heos multi-room set-up (10 speakers ranging from Heos 1s to 7s). I had been using the Heos Link previously to connect separate CD player, tuner, Blu-ray, tape deck(!) and a dedicated tablet to enable streaming services like YouTube that are not supported by the Heos app.First impressions, nice bit of kit. Slightly on the large size (more of that later) but overall a pleasing design with minimalist aesthetics belying the feature rich functionality beneath.Set-up was pretty straight forward. Did take a little while to get the CEOL to appear in My Devices in the Heos app, but nothing too fiddly.Switched on to play a CD first and within 5 seconds I knew that this upgrade from my old Sony CD player / Link combo was worth the price alone. Great sound even at modest volume, noticeably better, richer and more detailed than my previous setup.Overall, very pleased with this purchase and although it only really converges what I already had cobbled together using separates and the Link, the integration is seamless once the N10 is logged on to your Heos account.Pros:Would buy again – perfect companion for my Heos multi-room needs.Marked improvement in sound quality on my previous setup. I cannot comment on how it compares to more expensive units or CD players / streamers, but at this price point and considering the modest separates that I had previously, this improvement alone justifies the spend on the upgrade.Simple to use, although there are a few quirks. Turning the volume down on the unit does not turn down the speakers for example, which must be done in the usual way via the app. As I've only had for a couple of days, this might be user error however!Apart from this, the integration of the Heos app and services works well.Cons:Suspect that this works so well for me as I am already invested in the Heos platform and associated devices. Whilst those that are using a more standard or non-Heos based setup will still gain much, possibly not as much as those that have.No phono input, so there is life in my old Heos Link yet as this does have one.Logging on to your Heos account with characters typed via the handset is a little painful. Thankfully I remembered my username and password first time – I would not want to keep re-typing credentials if I had not or if mis-typed!The unit is very deep. Be wary of this if the shelf / unit that it is to go on has a back to it. By the time you have connected any RCA or optical cables to the back for example, you might find that you are having to bend them close to the connecter to accommodate.A little thing for most perhaps, but one annoying thing I must mention. The display can be adjusted for brightness with 4 dimming levels, however the two (and only) buttons on the front of the unit are a brilliant bright white, and they do not adjust with the digital display. Personally (and this is entirely down to personal preference I accept) I think it rather spoils the look, especially as the icons on these buttons means that they visually appear with different levels of illumination, size and clarity. Surely these could have been integrated with the level adjustment of the on-board display.
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect office Hi-Fi
I was looking for a Hi-Fi that would let me play CDs as well as be able to stream FLAC files from my media server over Ethernet. Also ideally I wanted something to fit inside an IKEA Kallax unit. This unit ticks all of the boxes, is made by a reputable brand and had been reviewed well online. I paired it with some Mordaunt Short 902i’s and some Bolo basics speaker wire.Positives: It sounds phenomenal and it works flawlessly. It also has Airplay which was a nice bonus and it can be controlled with Home Assistant.Negative: The remote is big and ugly. This seems to be a constant though. Consumer electronics companies seem to just never bother to actually design the remote.
5.0 out of 5 stars Superb.
A few months ago I bought some DALI Spector 1 speakers. Great but I needed a bigger sound so got some Oberon 3s. Beyond superb!! Then bought this Denon unit and paired it with the spektors. To say I’m pleased would be an understatement. Awesome for my bedroom. Just incredible.
4.0 out of 5 stars It's nearly a star but......
I needed a half way house headphone amp that had balance controls on it, this just about fitted the bill. I have a pair of wharfedale 9.1 speakers set up with it. It sounds fantastic in all modes apart from Bluetooth. As Bluetooth on this machine is absolute trash, it uses the sbc codec only. Which as we all know is the worst out there. This not only makes the quality of the transmission sub standard it also suffers from drop outs and extreme lag, so it's totally unusable for anyone serious about using Bluetooth, shocking performance on that level. One can only deduce that because the unit has Heos support that they get around it that way. To which this is where the unit shines, Spotify sounds amazing through your Heos account, as does internet radio. The built in cd player is also very good and a nice bonus. No matter what headphones I attach to this and I have several high performance cans, whilst not awful, the sound lacks warmth and cohesion for me. I get far better performance out of my creative g6 amplifier which this Denon was supposed to replace (guess not).Setup via the in channel menu is slow and cumbersome, the app wouldn't let me do the WiFi password so had to do it via the remote control using Nokia 3310 esque alpha/numerical navigation, painful if you get it wrong trust me. However once your all set up it runs like a dream and has reintroduced me to radio and general listening as it really can pack a high quality punch through a decent pair of speakers.Although great for music, I wouldn't recommend it for films and gaming over a dedicated soundbar or surround AV receiver, mainly due to being only 2 channel the sound can get quite cluttered and voices on films can get lost in the mix, if it's a busy scene.I'd have to recommend the N11 over this due to that having aptx Bluetooth support though, sorry Denon but the Bluetooth performance kills the N10.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sounds
Fantastic sound I hear every instrument clearly paired to my Bose speakers. I have only turned volume halfway and it’s still very clear . I would upset my neighbours If I turned it to full. Find the app really good too. Not used the cd yet.
5.0 out of 5 stars Can’t fault it.
I’m not really sure why this has such bad reviews. I can’t fault it. I’m using it as a network amp to drive 2 x 8” monitor audio ceiling speakers. The unit lives in the top of a storage cupboard out of sight and out of easy reach, a shame really because it’s a nice looking thing. The network features work perfectly, AirPlay 2, Alexa, google home, Spotify, TuneIn etc. It works with my Denon AVR well, so I can have the same thing playing throughout, tv sound in kitchen etc. The Heos app controls the amp perfectly, it wakes/sleeps it and controls all the settings, so apart from the initial setup I’ve not needed to use the remote. I’ve not had any issues with lost WiFi connections/setting as others have reported, so I think these issues must have been ironed out in firmware updates. Sound is great too.
