5.0 out of 5 stars Very "full" sound even outside on the beach with a party of 80
I bought this little speaker as a "temporary" Bluetooth speaker I take to Firejams and beach parties figuring that at this price range it wouldn't be much louder than the other ones I've seen friends take down there. I was wrong and I won't need to replace it with anything...This speaker goes so loud and has so much punch that you can feel the vibrations from the bass in the sand on the beach from a good 10 - 15 meters away and you can "feel" it outside. This speaker will overpower a party of 80 people outside easily if needed. While the bass is non-directional the mid and high only comes out the side with the grill but it has a wide soundstage so you'll want to have the grill facing upwards if you are using it in a party outdoor setting. This speaker sounds B E U T I F U L when played in the woods <3As for sound quality it's actually surprisingly good if a little bass heavy if you are using it in a small room. You'll want to "find" the right preset EQ on the speaker because many of them are too bass heavy, there are 2 that sound quite good, when you take the speaker outside however you'll see "why", The bass is not "floppy" and it doesn't crunch even when very very loud. I have no idea "where" the sound comes from because the speaker is a bit smaller than expected when I first opened it, but it sounded much much much bigger than I expected it. You may find the sound quite aggressive when you use it in a smaller room - this really is a speaker for outdoor or larger indoor spaces and the "aggressiveness" of the sound obviously evens out when it's used outdoors allowing the audio to sound rich and full.Every single person who has heard it was really surprised when they saw where it was coming from, this actually beats my friends 15" rave speaker which is much larger and heavier, I haven't tested it at full volume because even in a party of 80 dancing people outside at the beach turning it up any louder would have been uncomfortable but even when set really loud there was no distortion. The speaker has a fairly rugged rubber flap over the USB ports and is definitely sand proof and while I haven't tested it looks like it'd survive having a drink spilled on it, light rain or even an accidental dip in the sea due to the buttons, both subwoofers and the speakers behind the grill being made of rubber, metal and plastic. All the buttons have "seals" around as well, so there is nowhere for sand or water to "get in" easily. As for battery life, I can't really comment because the battery has never "ran out" and it charges in around an hour and a half. I can say that this speaker was able to charge my friends dead iPhone and play music loudly for several long hours and it still had quite a bit of juice left but as of yet I haven't been able to run the battery down (since I always make sure it's charged up before I bring it out). After 8 hours of continuous play of bass heavy dub reggae at a very loud volume 2 of the 3 power indicator LED's are still on. The underside of the speaker states that it has 2 x 4000mAh batteries inside (for reference a modern a high end smartphone has 1 x 3500mAh battery) and because the speaker only does one thing (play audio) and is lacking in bloated and useless features this is why it lasts as long as it does.As for features, the buttons may appear to leave quite a bit to be desired and may be a disappointment initially but this makes for "easy, fast and quick" usage. There is an EQ button to select between several built in EQ presets (the one it comes with doesn't sound great), a volume up button, a volume down button, an "input select" button and a power button. there are 3 LEDs to indicate remaining power, 1 for charging and 1 to indicate bluetooth connectivity. As for inputs there is a USB-C charging port to charge the speaker (I haven't tested this to see if it'll play music through it). Meaning you could charge it from one of those power banks and it makes it easier to charge up in a pinch. There is a standard USB port which you can use to charge your phone off and there is of course an standard aux (headphone style) if your old fashioned and prefer to use a cable (hint: this will actually save battery on both your phone and the speaker). While I haven't done this on this speaker yet as I've not needed to, I can give some good advice on how to get both more volume and more battery life out of any speaker,

4.0 out of 5 stars More Tyson Fury than Ali!
Looking for a bluetooth speaker to replace my Onkyo X6 and laboured long and hard, read review after review and the D8 kept getting a mention as being a giant killer! For the price i took a punt, here's what i found.First impressions are it dwafted the Onkyo unit and although still portable i realised my hand luggage space when travelling will be reduced massively! It's about the size of a JBL extreme so i expected some bang for the buck! It's styling will not be to everone's liking and is typical Chinese build, plastic yet sturdy and looks fairly solidly put together. Now for the important bit, sound. The sound is loud, alot louder than the Onkyo but at lower levels they are not massively different with the premium brand Onkyo almost being on a par. Turn them up and obviously the D8 is much louder.Bass was not quite as deep as i was hopeing for but for £67 aint half bad.It has a 'equaliser' button which when pressed seems to add more mid and treble but not more bass strangley, the normal setting seems to offer a flatter less bright sound!Thinking things may loosen up after a few hours of play as all speakers do (run them in!)If this improves significantly i will edit this post. The unit seems to be around 2.5kg, so if you are thinking of putting it in small bags or a shoulder bag you will know you are carrying it!Another thing to mention is the strap this unit comes with would seem to be non removable, this may bother some and seems a little strange you can't take it off.Summary...For £67 this unit is fantastic value and unless you are comparing against the same sized premium brand offerings you probably will not be dissapointed at all and remember they will be at least double (and some) more expensive than this D8. It will not dissapoint and you could get another to pair as stereo speakers if you wish for less than a premium single.I posted a picture of the 4 year old Onkyo X6 for comparison (Cost new £119!) Tiny, but a nice sound and ultra portable and better sound than a equivelent JBL Flip of the time.So in short well worth the money, but stops just short somehow of really impressing you, even at this low asking price! 8/10
