5.0 out of 5 stars Better than gels
As someone who has Ulcerative Colitis these worked out as a better option than gels. Easy on the stomach and gave a noticeable boost.
5.0 out of 5 stars instant pick me up
I cycle a lot and know all to well how your food and water intake affects performance, I do not as a rule use energy gels as they play havoc with my stomach and I have found out the hard way. I ordered these with some reservations as to what they would do to me but am pleased that they have not given me any trouble. Just allow one or 2 to dissolve on the tongue and thats it, no water needed. I found the effects kicked in around 10 minutes and I felt more alert and focussed. these are really easy to store in your cycle bag or in your wallet for work. Flavouring is of course very artificial but it goes away quite quickly after use. I would stick to the guidelines and not consume lots of this in one go or you will feel pretty jittery. overall I like this because it does not give me any stomach ache and is so easy to carry.
4.0 out of 5 stars Odd flavour, expensive for what they provide.
In this set you get 25 strips in packs of 5. Each strip is individually wrapped in foil. You can see that you get a large postage stamp sized thin strip which you put on your tongue and let dissolve. There are warnings about now chewing it, and limiting your intake. "Exceeding 5 servings per day may cause harm".I'm moderately sensitive to caffeine, and usually only have one full caffeinated coffee in the morning to wake me up. Because of this I chose to have half a strip and see what happened. The taste is nicer at the start, and has a distinct cola flavour. As it dissolves (which only takes a few seconds) the lemon starts to kick in. The aftertaste of lemon isn't as nice, but that's personal preference. After about 5 minutes I could certainly feel a buzz from the caffeine. I'd say it was certainly quite strong. They claim 2 strips = a coffee/energy drink, but I'd say it would be more like 1. As far as this goes, they are certainly good in that respect. The cost is very high though, and I'm having trouble thinking when this would be of real use.
2.0 out of 5 stars Massively overrated and inferior to gels/tablets
Doing a lot of long-distance running I’m always on the lookout for caffeine products that come in smaller doses, as many are 100-200mg a pop. On face value these seemed ideal on price, dose, flavour and ease of use….Sadly not the case. Weak and unpleasant flavour, doesn’t dissolve efficiently enough to be used on the go during a run and ultimately just doesn’t give the same boost as other products. Save your money and get that very well known brand that has 75mg caffeine in some of its electrolyte tablets and energy gels.
1.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Rubbish
Not sure there is much more to say other than - AVOID
3.0 out of 5 stars Caffeine fix
This is a set of caffeine strips to boost your performance. Although this listing states they are suitable for vegans, the ingredients list states they contain glycerol, which is often derived from animal sources. The packs themselves make no claims whatsoever about their being suitable for vegetarians and vegans, so I am taking no chances and have asked for clarification. The packs I was sent for review purposes were presented in just a plastic bag, so it is possible the full product comes in a box with all necessary information, but I will update once I find out more.Note that the pack contains a warning that you should not have more than five strips in a day, but bear in mind overall caffeine intake when you assess consumption.
4.0 out of 5 stars gives a good hit of caffeine
I feel like these come in more packaging then is necessary and that irks me a little given that many companies are trying to reduce waste. Arguably it's so these strips don't get lost as they are super thing but I would estimate the sachet for each strip to be at least 5 times the size of the strip inside that measures about 1.5 x 1 cm.The strip itself does taste like the promised flavour of cola and lemon. I don't think that it tastes particularly sugar free but that's a positive from me. For purposes of review I have chewed one (it says not to on the packaging) and I can tell you it because it then creates an awful taste in the mouth. Probably due to flavours being so concentrated. The strip is ok otherwise...just follow the instructions. The caffeine hit was not obvious at first but I do think this works quite well and it is effective, so for its purpose it does fit the bill.
2.0 out of 5 stars Effective, but highly unpleasant. The delivery format feels entertainingly illicit though.
I really wanted to like these but after a few tries I've got to say I'm not a massive fan. If a can of 250ml popular energy drink is about 80mg of caffeine, these have 40mg per strip which is about half a small can. I occasionally use ProPlus type caffeine tablets and thought these might be a good alternative - however the taste is just truly awful. I presume it's because the strips are so thin and small that there's no filler to hide the bitter caffeine behind. The initial flavour on the tongue is described as 'cola lemon' and for the first couple of seconds this is probably semi-accurate, like a discount version of a cola. After the first few seconds the bitterness builds until it becomes quickly overwhelming - and this simply awful flavour lingers like nothing else I've experienced. It definitely keeps you awake because your sole driving instinct becomes 'OMG HOW CAN I SCRUB THIS STAIN OF SATAN OUT OF MY MOUTH' - it's not a pleasant experience unfortunately. One small up side is that the 'dissolve on your tongue' strip delivery format feels entertainingly illicit!
Game changer! Take them every morning!
I always keep some of these in my nightstand and take one before I get out of bed every morning. As a very not-morning person, these have helped immensely. My husband even said “You seem less angry when you come downstairs in the mornings now”, so they must be working!
Wow
Works!
Tastes awful, poor value.
These dissolvable caffeine strips are advertised as a way to get your daily dose of the world’s favorite stimulant and hallucinogen by absorbing through the oral mucosa for a faster effect. I got these to see if it could help bypass my stomach bc of my acid reflux/gastritis. They work ok. I don’t feel anything with the 40 mg, so I have to take two (a cup of coffee averages 80 mg caffeine). I would recommend the 100 mg version instead unless you’re very sensitive or caffeine naive. I’ve noticed it’s a little less likely to induce a bowel movement, which is a plus or minus depending. If you swallow a strip, the effects feel the same as any other source of ingested caffeine. My main gripe is that the strips which are supposed to taste like “lemon cola” taste AWFUL. Imagine that someone spilled Coke on some asphalt on a hot summer day everyday for a week, and at the end you had to lick it clean. That what it tastes like. The strips also stay in your mouth for several minutes while it dissolves (depending on how much licking you do). The more times you try it, the more you get used to it, though. Your mileage may vary. Overall, it’s still an ok caffeine delivery method, but not a good value and not my first choice. 2/5 stars.
Great When You Need a Boost
The best thing I can think to compare this to is a drink like 5hr Energy. Granted this is not a liquid, but you'd use it when you would use 5hr Energy.Flavor:5hr Energy - I imagine this is what death tastes like.Revvies - For a second or two, it's somewhat pleasant, then the caffeine starts to dissolve, and you have an awful bitterness stuck in your mouth.Winner - Revvies, but that's nothing to celebrate.Effectiviness:5hr Energy - It works and usually does not result in any crash.Revvies - It works. It might actually work faster than 5hr, but the lack of vitamins can lead to a crash later.Winner - 5hr EnergyPackaging:5hr Energy - Small plastic vital, that even if you recycle, it's going to end up in a landfill because it's dirty plastic.Revvies - Very minimal packaging. Even if it ends up in a landfill, some of it seems to be biodegradable and the rest is as minimal as you can get.Winner - RevviesTemp Factor - AKA the impact of hiker heat.5hr Energy - Heats up and holds heat. Makes you want to gag when you drink it.Revvies - Little if any impact from heat.Winner - RevviesOverall this is a decent product, but only for on the go or exercise situations. If those two factors are not involved, I'd take a cup of coffee any day of the week.
They do what they say.
They definitely give you a quick pick-up. One knocks off the yawns and heavy eyes. They taste terrible. It says "lemon cola," but whoever made the flavor has tasted neither. Definitely taking with fizzy liquid makes it easier to take.
