5.0 out of 5 stars I just love these little speakers.
Wow, who'd have thought so much sound and volume could come out of such tiny cabinets. And paired with the Edifier bass speaker, you definitely hit the next level with them as the pair compliment each other perfectly. Almost as if the bass speaker adds volume, but it doesn't really it just appears that way but the bass speaker adds a massive oomph. The sound easily fills my room and I love them so much I've ordered some stands; which were hard to find for speakers that are only 4.5 1/2" wide, but I found some that have adjustable top plates to fit any speaker size, for around £80. I will use them, once the stands arrive, in place of my Samsung B20 series sound bar for the TV too, I had originally only bought them as pc speakers but the sound is soon solid, range is fantastic, mids, lows, highs all clear as a whistle. They'll need moving around halfway between my PC and TV, on stands as the Bluetooth connectivity (which is brilliant by the way) seems to suffer from a little delay when watching YouTube on my fire TV, currently they're around 15ft away from the TV and they still connect really quickly/consistently and it only seems to be YouTube that has the issue, it could just as easily be my fire TV (which you can adjust the BT delay rate with, but I haven't tried yet as they won't be my home theatre until the stands arrive). But yes, hardwired to my PC, Bluetooth to my TV (and mobile phone too occasionally) so versatile. I can't recommend these mini beasts enough. They're easily loud enough for my 5-6m² room and when you add the bass speaker you could easily bother you're neighbours before you reach top volume. My neighbours might not seem to favour them as much as I do haha, no I don't use them to terrorise the neighbours really, but I could. And the wow factor from friends when they visit at the weekends? Is pretty cool. You could definitely use these as a production speaker. They do have bass without the bass speaker, but it's so clear and just enough to be a little punchy without being too much or overly bassy, it's not huge or big bass but it is there and that's why they come with the port to fit a separate bass speaker (I'd definitely recommend buying the Edifier one too). They'd make fantastic PC DAW monitors, gaming speakers, general music experience or home theatre in my opinion with the bass speaker. Stands would likely compliment the home theatre more and that's why I've ordered some although these do point very slightly upwards too (see picture 2) which is quite a nice feature. Volume controls on the side are another nice feature, my son's more expensive production monitors have rear volume control which is a little annoying at times as he has them set in a wall unit, quite high up so can be fiddly for a teenager at times. These edifiers also look pretty cool with the covers off too (picture 1. not the best picture but you get the gist). So yes, the performance is outstanding, the price makes them all the more phenomenal, I would buy them again and again and have recommended to others, I would recommend to you too and at this price it's a no brainer. Don't forget the bass speaker that these were made to go with, together they'll knock you're socks off,,,and your neighbours too if they're in bed when you juice them up.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent all-round speakers
My previous Edifier R1700BT died after 5 years of service. (I think the PSU failed - no sound and the power LED flickered very faintly.) It really should have lasted longer so I'm annoyed with Edifier for that, but since it was such a great pair of speakers I bought the updated R1700BTS model to replace it.Just like the other model, I'm impressed by the sound quality from a pair of £150 desktop/bookshelf speakers. The sound is rich and deep and fills my small room with plenty of potential remaining. It handles all types of music, films, and talking videos very well. The bass is good already but it's nice to know it can be boosted further using the subwoofer output if I choose to in the future. This model has a spatial sound feature using a built-in DSP, but it adds far too much reverb and ruins the source material. There are no controls for this apart from off or on so I don't know why they wasted their time implementing it.The Bluetooth connectivity is easy to set up and its remote control can be used to play/pause/next/prev the connected device such as a mobile phone. It lets me connect to 2 different BT devices (phone and TV) without having to pair each up again if I swap between them, but the currently connected device must disconnect first before the other device is able to connect to it.Having 2 wired inputs plus BT is useful. I would have liked a headphone output but I guess Edifier think differently.Overall this is a lovely pair of speakers, they look stunning without the covers but I keep them on to act as dust protection and prevent accidental damage to the diaphragm. The sound is amazing and it's pretty good value for money. I just hope this one lasts longer than the previous one.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great sound quality! Would recommend a sub though
I bought these to replace an cheap old logitech surround sound system. The sound quality on these are great for the price - I noticed sounds in the high pitch range that I haven't noticed before, without if sounding overpowering. The mids are amazing on these, and the instrument separation is pretty good. However, the low end bass is quite lacking (as they only have 4 inch woofers), so I decided to buy an edifier T5 subwoofer to go along with it. It was a great decision , the sound is so complete now and these bookshelf speakers now sound much more comfortable not having to try and play <60hzIf you are looking to buy these speakers for mainly listening to music, a subwoofer is highly recommended.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great speakers just don't push too hard
For £120 these offer fantastic value. Really well built and the sound quality for the money is excellent. Compare these to the normal Bluetooth speakers you get and there is no contestIf you push them too hard (I mean very very load) then they lose a little cohesion and become and little bright but that's a small criticism given the price point.
5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive
Had high expectations and they met them.Using primarily by playing music from the phone through Bluetooth. Connects in ~4 seconds. Remote can pause, skip tracks. Quality using BT is even better comparing the wired. The Bass and Treble controls doesn't make too much difference. Just using the phone's equalizer.Their surround setting might work for some songs, miss for other. Leaving it disabled. Might be good for movies.Ideally would love to add a subwoofer. Additional bass kick would make it mind blowing I recon. Don't have a good place for the sub though. One of the speakers came with a scratch. Not perfect, but fine, especially considering their price range.Highly recommend. Would spend even more for a better set, but was looking for a BT 5.0 with aptX.
1.0 out of 5 stars Awful sound
A lot of money for an absolutely cheap sounding speakers...nom top end, no bottom end just indecipherable mid range honk. Very very poor and cheap sounding speakers, equivalent sound to any bluetooth speaker costing no more than £20. Look elsewhere.
