5.0 out of 5 stars Switch dual screens, audio, keyboard and mouse control between a laptop and PC seamlessly.
I have a Macbook and personal gaming PC with a wonderful mouse, keyboard, and 4K set-up. When I started my new job, my company issued me with a 13" windows laptop, docking station, and 2k monitor - my home 'office' isn't that big and I only have one desk which I needed to share between the two computers.I was constantly frustrated that I had two computers and two displays yet could only use one display at a time despite both of them being right next to each other. I tried to use an HDMI switching adapter but I still had issues with having to manually sort the audio and switch my keyboard and mouse around whenever I swapped between computers.I finally snapped and coughed up the £208.99 for this switch, and although it was really pricey, it was actually a great buy.I bought the 2x HDMI & DP to 2x HDMI KVM, and TESmart provided most of the cables I needed (just not the two HDMI cables to go into the back of the monitors). While the back of the KVM looks like an octopus orgy, using the switch is seamless.I just want to highlight how complex this setup is, and that headset, mic, mouse, keyboard and screens all work exactly as I was hoping:From the back of the KVM:Screen 1 HDMI goes to Screen 1Screen 2 HDMI goes to Screen 2Computer 1 HDMI goes to the PCComputer 1 DP goes to the PCComputer 1 USB goes to the PCComputer 2 HDMI goes to the Docking stationComputer 2 DP goes to the Docking stationComputer 2 USB goes to the Docking stationMouse goes to MouseKeyboard to KeyboardUSB goes to 3 USB ports and an audio jack in the back of screen 1The docking station has 2x external hard drives connected to it, which both my MacBook and laptop can see when connected. Both portables pick up the audio from my headset.I didn't bother with the IR remote, but it worked fine - personally, my favorite feature that these guys have done is being able to switch control of computers via a keyboard combination.Might update the review with a picture of the setup later.
4.0 out of 5 stars Works almost perfectly, few disconnection issues but could be personal defect.
Overall, this product performs almost perfectly with two 1440p@60fps monitors. One of the few issues I have had with it are that very intermittently (mostly soon after switching computers, but sometimes randomly) the first monitor goes black for a few seconds. (It happens with both computers of different specs, regardless of which HDMI/DP cables I use, and it doesn't happen when the monitors are plugged in directly to the computer; narrowing the problem to the KVM switch). Most of the time it is manageable (unless you're playing fps games or those that requre fast reaction times, at which point it has lost me a few matches), as the monitor reconnects where you left off. However, on occasion this has completely disconnected the monitor from the connected computer, and as such all open windows get shifted onto the other monitor (as it has only ever affected the main screen), which becomes very obtrusive. However, this has only happened ~5 times over the last 6 months of usage.Additionally, by default the switch makes an ear-pearcingly loud beep each time the view is changed at all. It was quite frustrating to find that there appeared no way on the remote control or the switch itself to turn this off. There are key combinations that you can use to disable this noise, however gaming keyboards (the only keyboard I had) are not compatible with these keybinds. As such, I had to invest in an additional compatible keyboard (most simple keyboards should work), just to turn it off.Following from this, even though I have heard improvements have been made to the remote control over the years, there are still two (out of 6 total) buttons that serve no purpose. It would be great to repurpose these instead to a mute functionality, as previously described.Other than these, the switch works great and I have recommended it to a few work colleagues who have also thoroughly benefited from the seamless transition between accessing work and personal computers, especially during the remote working environment we have found ourselves in. I suspect the monitor issue mentioned is a defect in my model, as my colleagues have not reported the same issue.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works as intended, fast switching, good instructions
Love- switching between my PC and Macbook input in half a second- the easy instructions (you can find infographics and video tutorials on how to connect the components on the TESmart website and the packaging)- how compact and slim this KVM switch is! fits under a monitor standDo take note that if you use this with only one monitor- if after connecting all the wires, your monitor displays a black screen with just a cursor, it could be because the monitor is treated as an extended display- change your computer display settings. for Windows PC, I needed to press Windows Logo Key + P to switch to a single display mode
1.0 out of 5 stars It won't last long and very likely to cause flickering on monitors
Had for less than 2 years and this is my second one of this model. It causes 1 monitor to flicker - I changed every cable so it is the unit. It's a good idea to have a kvm but buy a better one.
2.0 out of 5 stars Adequate
Functional but connectivity between shared devices inconsistent, headphones, camera etc. Dual monitor connections drops occasionally. Not enough USB ports for devices as wireless keyboard and mice was problem, so reverted to wired and no Ethernet connection. Are there better options for price.
