5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent earbud tips

    A.C. · 3 August 2024

Originally bought the mixed sizes, M, ML & L to determine the right size for me. The ML was a perfect fit, comfortable and gave good sound quality. Not the cheapest tips available but, for me, the best.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Credible Alternative to the Stock Foam Tips

    A. · 9 January 2023

Even if you like the stock foam tips that come with the Sony WF-1000XM4s, you're going to run into serious problems when you try to replace them.Try doing a search for the genuine article using their part number EP-NI1000 and you’ll see just how scarce these things are. I’ve only had the XM4s for 2 weeks and already the tips are showing signs of deterioration. Admittedly, I may have accelerated this decay. In pursuit of better comfort I’ve been experimenting extensively with other tips, so the stock tips have been manhandled on and off much more than might normally be expected. Simple fact is though, that foam lacks the durability of silicon. On top of that, foam is more prone to crud and that means more cleaning which in turn means yet more wear on an already delicate material.Don’t get me wrong, the stock tips once broken in aren’t particularly uncomfortable but you’re definitely aware that you are wearing them. Other than that, in terms of grip, seal and sound quality, they are hard to beat. What’s not hard to beat is the price. I couldn't find original tip replacements anywhere in the UK and ended up sourcing a pair in the US for, wait for it… £30. Mercifully that includes delivery. That might be just about palatable if they last forever but if you have to replace these with any regularity, it’s not on.That being said, I have read online that if you contact Sony Support directly they will send you free replacements under warranty if the tips have perished prematurely with fair use. I have also read accounts stating the exact opposite where people got nowhere, so I’m not sure how that works in practice or if it’s even worth the hassle.Either way it makes sense to find a good third party alternative(emphasis on good), and that’s where the AZLA SednaEarfit Crystal Standards come in.I was prompted to buy these after seeing positive reviews on YouTube that praised their comfort and quality. Having forked out for decent buds, I wanted equally decent tips to match.First things first, some tips advertise as direct replacements and then you have to remove the tips to fit the buds in the charging case, that to me is a deal breaker. Happily, these fit nicely.Next, not all ears are equal or indeed brand sizes. Choosing the best fit, I thought, might a bit tricky even with the extended range of sizes and size comparison tables. AZLA recommend that you select tips based on equivalent dimensions but do also sell packs with mixed sizes. The best Sony stock fit for me is medium, so I went with the medium small on the Crystals because the stated dimensions are the same. With this size I found that the left ear is a near perfect fit but possibly a little slack on the right. That prompted me to buy a pack of medium tips and go with those for the right ear. I figured an extra 0.7mm on the umbrella diameter might just cinch it, this was a mistake. Surprisingly that extra 0.7mm between MS and M is just a shade too big and broke the ear seal, and seal is crucial. The medium size are therefore not much use to me. At least now there are no nagging doubts about what size is best. Shame there isn’t some sort of online swap shop for errant or unwanted tips.Having settled on the best fit, these grip surprisingly well, but the biggest plus is the comfort. These are more comfortable than the Sony stock tips and as expected for silicon look and feel much more durable. I would expect these to last an age and clean well. How about sound? I think I’d be prepared to sacrifice a bit of sound for comfort but not too much. I had both the stock Sony and Crystal tips on and off trying to decide which sounded best and in the end was struggling to arrive at a conclusion, it’s a close call but possibly overall sound satisfaction goes to Sony.In terms of noise cancellation the difference is more pronounced, at least passively, since decent foam padding provides noticeably better noise reduction than a silicon layer. That said these still isolate better than a lot of other silicon tips I’ve tried. Maybe it’s the Liquid Silicon Rubber composition, maybe the chunkiness or a bit of both. I only use these indoors so can’t comment much on active noise cancellation in different environments but for my purposes I can’t say I noticed much difference. On to price. Certainly cheaper than Sony original tips but also dearer than run of the mill silicon, so are they worth it? All things considered I’d say yes, what you get is a premium product and a premium experience. In conclusion, I’d say it comes down to a simple choice. If you can live with the foam then the stock tips in my opinion give the best all round experience. Conversely, if you can’t live with the foam then the Crystals are certainly a decent near no compromise alternative.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can use my ear buds again!

    N.S. · 28 January 2023

I haven't been able to use my Sony wf-1000xm4 ear buds for some time as I found that the foam tips made them difficult to fit & and they also irritated my ears. I bought the medium small as recommended by other reviewers & I have found they are a perfect fit & replacement for the medium Sony foam tips. To my ears the noise cancelling & sound quality are just the same as using the foam tips (& I'm quite particular about these things) These silicone ear tips are so much more comfortable & make it much easier to fit the earbuds into my ears - & I'm using my Sonys again. I would highly recommend these to any Sony wf-1000xm4 owners .

3.0 out of 5 stars It depends on your priorities - reviewed on WF-1000XM4

    H.B. · 15 July 2023

First up- these fit the WF-1000XM4 as promised. The ML size, which I am using instead of stock L buds, pass the seal test for me and also fit in the charging case, so that's good.I had serious misgivings about the foam-covered tips supplied by Sony, mostly about long-term durability. Replacing them is not only almost impossible but eye-watering expensive in traditional Sony style. I wanted to find some third-party tips that were more readily available and cost a fraction of the fanciful Sony price.Even with this in mind, these are relatively pricey for third-party tips, but it's still less eye-watering.They are easy to fit and seem to stay put. I'm using ML as a replacement for the stock L and it seems to be slightly more snug, which is what I wanted. I always had intermittent seal issues with the left ear using the stock tips in the tests and initial problems with the right with these- maybe the stock were slightly too small for me and these are slightly too large, not sure. In any case, they're fairly pliable and seem comfy when properly inserted. They do have an overall effect of making the sound on XM4 worse though- highs are a bit too forward, lows are still loud, but they're much more ragged, texture and timbre is more smeared and it sounds closer to "one note", as you'd get with much cheaper units. The XM4 already had a very "consumer" tuning with a slightly V-shaped frequency response to start with, so this exaggerates the problem. You can tame it a bit with the EQ in the Sony headphone app, but that won't magically restore the timbre and texture of the wooly base. The sound stage, normally unusually loud for in-ears on the XM4 becomes a more conventional "between the ears" affair.Essentially, with these tips, you can make the WF-1000XM4 sound like a much cheaper pair of headphones- but you won't have to spend lots of time and money trying to get hold of Sony spares. It's a trade-off, choose your poison. They also offer less passive attenuation of external noise, so that won't help the already somewhat homeopathic noise cancellation of the WF-1000XM4. If you want really good noise cancellation and attenuation plus LDAC, you're still better off with the WH-1000MX5 in situations where you can wear them- changing tips on in-ears is unlikely to make a massive improvement, you simply don't have enough mass there. So all in all, a mixed bag. They're a valid choice for some people, they'll be a terrible choice for others. Welcome to the grey area.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the 1000xm4

    J. · 23 May 2022

I bought these for the 1000xm4, I have them in silver and the stock ear tips felt fine but they felt like they lacked bass plus I found them less hygienic due to not really being able to clean them like silicon ear tips and they get dirty easy, tried the spin360s buy they felt flimsy, decided to try these and wow, very happy. The fit is perfect, the bass has increased and the overall sound is very nice. Using the headphones app these ear tips pass the fit test, they are easy to clean and stay in your ears, you could go running and have no issue. I definitely recommend these if you want to try a non foam ear tip.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent

These were bought to replace the memory foam ear tips supplied with Sony's WF1000XM4's.Decent fit and true to size. You can feel the quality of materials used.Noise isolation is decent, but not as good as I was expecting.

    Top Material

    E. · 17 December 2023
