5.0 out of 5 stars A really superb piece of kit

I wanted to give this a bit of time before reviewing it so as not to miss out on anything. The TL;DR version is that this is a phenomenal little projector, being a great upgrade from my previously owned 1080p Xgimi MoGo Pro.Pros:* Great picture - although it's not "true" 4k, it's more than good enough to fool the naked eye and the picture is bright, crisp and well-detailed. It also has surprisingly good black level for a projector as long as you've eliminated the ambient light in the room, but even in a lit room you can get a watchable picture if you need to (although why you would use a projector in a bright room is beyond me!). HDR output is really nice by projector standards too - it's not going to beat an OLED, but for a projector this is on par with anything else I've ever seen before you get to the £5k sort of range.* In-built sound is punchy and loud enough to not need additional speakers if you don't plan to have it fixed in one place. I move it between two rooms, so I'm happy to use the in-built speakers and they do the job beautifully. It does have ARC support, though, so if you want to set up an actual 'cinema room' with this as the projector, it would connect up to your soundbar no bother. The rooms I use it in are too small to need that, though!* The automatic keystoning is a great feature. As mentioned above - I use this in two rooms. In my home office (ie: mancave) where I have a screen hanging on one wall, and in my bedroom where it's just projected onto a bit of white wall between the cupboard and door. The auto-keystone feature means I don't have to spend ages adjusting the picture every time I move it (this was always a pain on the MoGo Pro) and although it's not always perfect, usually only just needs a couple of small tweaks at most to be finalised. I'm able to watch happily in my bedroom despite the projector having to beam at an almost 40 degree angle (more on that below in cons though).* It handles gaming surprisingly well. I'm not a twitchy FPS player, but in game mode I was able to play Forza Horizon from my PC over HDMI with no problems and I didn't feel any real latency or lag. Same with more reaction-based stuff like Hades. It might not be what a pro gamer type would need (60Hz, for one thing, which is low for competitive gaming), but for a casual type like me, it's a lot of fun gaming on such a big screen.* Portability is excellent. It's small, compact-shaped (it's almost a cube, so doesn't take up too much room in any one direction), quite light and also has a standard issue tripod mount thread on the bottom if you want to attach it to such a thing.Cons:* It has 3D support, but it doesn't work all that well. I got a pair of Xgimi's 3D glasses free with it as part of a promotion when I bought it, and it took a lot of fiddling to get a crisp 3D picture. That said, there's not a lot of 3D content out there online anyway, so it might be ok for someone who's got a proper 3D blu-ray player and knows how best to set this stuff up.* When the projector isn't front and centre and matched up with your screen/wall, there is quite a lot of light bleed. This is an unavoidable side-effect of digital keystoning when you're projecting at an angle, but some sort of peripheral which could shutter this off a bit would have been nice. Unfortunately Xgimi don't make anything like that. There's also no lens cap (I don't think there's an official peripheral for this either) which feels like a bit of an oversight for such an expensive device.* The official accessories are very expensive. I looked into getting the tabletop stand (which allows for easy adjustments in angle if you're not 100% level) but it's £75, which is a bit ridiculous. Same with the bespoke projector stand - over £100 (frustratingly, I missed out on getting one for free as that promo came along a month after I bought it - would rather have had that than the glasses!). I've had to come up with some DIY solutions as a result. It also doesn't come with a cover, but there are some 3rd party ones on Bolo that do the trick. Just feels like at this price point, including a few extra things like a cover would have been nice.* The power brick is quite big - it's like a laptop style one, so if you're going to ceiling-mount this, you will need to take that into account and it might make your setup look a little messier.* There's no native Netflix support - I use a 4K Firestick, so that doesn't bother me too much, but it's just something to be aware of. This is more Netflix's fault (they refuse to make it available for certain companies for some reason) than Xgimi's, though. In conclusion, although I've listed a few cons there, they are quite nitpicky and I would still quite happily give this projector 5 stars with no hesitation. It's a wonderful piece of kit and I'm genuinely amazed at just how good it is when I look at some other projectors out there at similar price points).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Home 4k Projector

I've used my XGIMI Horizon Pro for a while now and always been happy with it. As you can see from the pictures I've used it in different parts of the house and even in the garden during a end of summer BBQ recently and the picture quality has always been outstanding even when tested by some daylight. As with all projectors it's best when used in a light controlled room, but for sports and animated films for the kids you'll get away with some ambient light. The speakers are good enough that a sound bar isn't needed unless you're a real audiophile and I've had no problem with the Google android system, so I haven't needed to use a Fire TV stick or Apple TV. For some people you my need an external streaming device as there are some apps missing like BBC and even though there is a Netflix work around, it can be hit and miss. I don't use those apps on the projector so it's fine for me. Very good auto focus, auto keystone correction and obstacle avoidance if you're using a plain white wall, so you should have no problem adjusting the picture to fit your space. Overall creating a 100 inch image for family nights in and sports in the day it's a great projector and even better value for money now that the price has dropped. If you don't need 4k then the 1080p basic Horizon is identical and significantly cheaper but 4k content looks is very good on the Pro so worth it to me. For those wanting to vies 3D content the Horizon Pro is able to display this and is reported to be one of the best at it, so an additional bonus. I tested it once and it was cool but not something I've used again or need from my projector.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Flagship projector

    A.C. · 11 September 2021

I needed a flagship projector in the£1,000 to £3,000 price range. I knew of some of the top companies. But I was definitely most impressed with this XGIMI Horizon Pro!This product is awesome. The 4K picture shows clear and bright. The speaker is very loud so you don’t need to spend more for an external soundbar. Most other projectors only seem to work well for one thing. Some have a clear picture but low brightness. Some have ok picture, brightness, and speakers, but have a terrible design, making it difficult to set up and use. But this projector is all-in-one and fantastic for movies, TV shows, video games, and sports.Setup and keystone correction was very easy and I was able to fill my screen even closer to the edges of a 150” screen that was about 12’ away on the right side of the room, in just a few minutes. The performance in the daytime with my blinds closed is pretty good with bright colors (see pictures). Nighttime viewing is better though. The colors pop and the extra resolution makes the details even smoother around the edges.Netflix doesn’t work yet, of course you can also use the workaround they provide. But I use my Fire stick and it works just fine.Overall I love all the improvements they have made. I finally have a 4k projector that looks great inside and out.
