5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, but complex ~ but a worthy purchase
Early impressions are that it WILL do what I need it to; but also that there is much to learn!I bought it to cover 4 family vehicles, plus future purchases. Pre-purchase advice was good in terms of coverage by the D7 and this model, D8. It was clear that the D7 was a generation behind, and that the only sensible choice was the D8, despite its cost.My first vehicle was a MB-E220 (first model with AdBlu etc). It detected by vehicle correctly, and showed listed fault codes. I looked through these and then decided to 'clear' them, and then see what was left. Good move, as the old information went away, but what it saw as current problems stayed live (Stored-&-current). For me, I didn't see these as any big problem - certainly no 'fault-light' on the dash.I then wanted to look at the DPF/AdBlu status; my first problem! Down one path, it showed failure to connect to the ECU when I was trying to read back AdBlue tank levels etc.... Following another path, it looked as though I was going to be able to perform a ReGen - so I stopped short of doing this in front of my house....I still haven't found where I can 'read' the status of my NOx sensors to see how clogged they are getting (a regular problem on this car) - my simple code reader gives me this... I also need to be able to read the status of the DPF to know how near I am to needing a ReGen....I can see this is 'me' rather than the XTool-D8; or I hope it is. Just a bit concerned at the failure to connect to the ECU in the SCR section of the device, and worried that it might be a MB lock-out even though this device should be able to handle that.My next challenge, a Vauxhall Vivaro! Most people say this is 'dealer only', but the D8 should handle it. Time will tell.Would I still buy one if I had my time again? Yes, I think so. Just bear in mind there is a lot to learn.SUPPORT - good support by eMail for my pre-purchase enquiries. I'll now test that out with my guidance request on how to access the SCR/AdBlu are of my car.UPDATE, some disappointment!Despite pre-purchase query by VIN, I find that the Vivaro-C is not yet covered. It is scheduled to be developed, but that doesn't help me now!It can only address the generic ODB2 method, but cannot identify my AdBlue/SCR fault, nor can it yet force a DPF ReGen, which I believe is what I need.I hope this comes promptly.UPDATE, November 2023I no longer have the MB, so that's no longer any concern (the quality of MB's NOx sensors was poor).I've not yet had access to the Vivaro due to time and vehicle availability - but hope to try this again over the Xmas holidays.I've now tried it on my new (2023) Hyundai SantaFe. Whilst this doesn't detect automatically from the VIN (because it is so new), I have entered manually under the 2022 model which is exactly the same and tried it for basic data. It is a PHEV, and I did this whilst it was charging. It seems to work fine, although I wasn't able to turn on the ignition during charging to test full features ~ but this doesn't seem to be a problem. So yes, now happy with this. The support is excellent and responsive - no problems with that at all. Any delays have been mine.I'll further update as I move around the rest of my family's cars as I bought this for private use to access what can normally only be seen by the dealer.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great products, backed up by great customer service.
I purchased the XTool D8 after seeing many positive reviews.I spent many hours comparing & contrasting many OBD2 scanners from lots of different manufacturers. I was drawn to the XTool D8 by the positive reviews and the 3 year free updates.I had a low-cost OBD2 scanner that I used on my friend's Alfa Romeo Mito, this was from another manufacturer. This did not show and pending or current DTC codes. I then plugged in the XTool D8 and it showed up 3 DTC codes (these can be seen in the attached photo's). This tool instantly showed up the specific DTC fault codes.I was also able to print off the report for each individual code and for all 3 codes combined. I gave this report to my friend to save on his phone and computer. We reset all the DTC fault codes and only one reappeared after the reset. My friend saved the reset DTC codes on the report. The fault code that remained present was investigated and narrowed down to a bad earth bond connection at the gearbox to body connection points( bad earth). We also reset the service light on his car.The good thing with each fault code is that you can click on the magnification image to view the fault code and it will take you online to view the fault code description. This is a fantastic tool for beginners, home mechanics, and professional mechanics. If you want a very good OBD2 tool, a tool that is backed up by fantastic customer service and 3 years of free updates, then do not look any further than the X-TOOL D8.The XTool D8 connected straight to the Citroen C1 but the Peugeot 107 I had did not connect to all the menu option that the C1 did. I contacted XTool and within an hour I had a response to my Bolo messages. XTool were straight onto the problem and asked to remote connect to my XTool D8. WOW!! That is what you call great customer service.I've contacted XTool a couple of times since, and every time they have responded. Once they responded to an email within five minutes. I contact them to ask when the next lower budget OBD2 scanners would be out. They replied within 10 minutes. I wanted a lower budget OBD2 scanner for when I am out and about. I also wanted to order one for my friend that has the Alfa Romeo Mito. I will now be ordering two of the lower budget ones.Again, I would highly recommend the XTool D8 and XTool as a company. Give them a try. Believe me, this is the fastest response I have had from a company when contacting them for advice.Thank you XTool.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great little device
Originally bought to check a secondhand car purchase for any problems but has been invaluable since. Covers just about everything with an OBD2 port, the only thing I’ve found so far that it hasn’t been able to connect to is a 2001 Land Rover Discovery 2, but that’s land rovers fault and nothing to do with this device. I’ve used it to check cars for fault codes, diagnose problems with sensors, test sensors & electronics. Live data display is very handy to see what’s going on. Most involved task I’ve had to use it for so far is re-calibrating the air suspension height on a L322 Range Rover, which it performed admirably. If you’ve a few cars to look after as a diy/hobby mechanic then I’d highly recommend this device. It should cover all your needs for diagnostics and maintenance. It’s robust, comes in a handy storage case and should last years with software updates available via Wi-Fi. Definitely a tool I couldn’t do with out now.
