5.0 out of 5 stars Great connectivity, great sound and fits full face helmet
So, bought this last week to put into a Shoei full face helmet and link to a Garmin Zumo XT Satnav and Samsung phone. So far, really pleased.Helmet fitting: This was the part I was worried about but just took about 30 mins. Helmet had foam inserts where the ear speakers go, which I didn't know were there, so just removed them and used the supplied sticky pads to insert the speakers. With my set up they don't press against your ears but still quite audible. See below. The supplied bracket slipped fine between the helmet shell and the padding to attach the actual unit. The semi-rigid microphone fitted fine under the helmet padding and is placed inside the chin guard. With this helmet, all the wiring could be hidden under the removable interior padding.Instructions: OK to follow and the quick guide is useful.Controls: Buttons are quite accessible, even with gloves on, but TBH would pull over to the side of the road to do much more than adjust music volume.Sound Quality: Surprisingly good for music (after using hardwired buds for years). You can still hear the bike engine revs' and there is some some wind noise but you can still hear the tunes with a good bit of bass. Admittedly, I'm listening to rock / metal which probably helps. Satnav instructions are a bit CB Radio but I suspect that's the satnav more than this piece of kit.Battery: had a brief 80 mile / 3 hr run tonight with it switched on and it recharged within 30 mins so looks OK.Bluetooth connectivity: once powered on, no issues and tells you that.All-in-all firmly recommend. All the connections look waterproof but haven't tested that yet or the inter-bike connectivity as I tend to ride solo.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality headset
Love the shape and style and how easily it fits to the helmet. Battery life is incredible I’ve charged one up once and it’s lasted all week. Amazing quality product. You can hear everything through them nice and clear
4.0 out of 5 stars Good sound quality, but very awkward to install properly, and quite uncomfortable
The product in general is pretty good, sound output is indeed stereo, and audio quality is pretty good; the buttons on the unit are easy to press and generally fairly ergonomic, and the microphone provides clear audio for making calls with good sound quality reported by people I've called. Bluetooth pairing is very easy, however it should be noted that due to there only being 2 buttons (as well as volume plus and minus) every operation you wish to perform is made by pressing a button or combination of buttons for different lengths of time or different numbers of times in quick succession, which gets a little confusing (and lengths of time for each operation, e.g. entering pairing mode, are incorrect in the provided instructions and it does take a bit of experimentation to learn how to use it properly). However, the speakers/earpieces are much thicker than I've seen on other similar units, and consequently are quite awkward to get into the correct position inside the helmet and can be very uncomfortable after a while of wearing the helmet, and you WILL tear the foam on the speakers/earpieces during installation unless you're exceedingly careful and are lucky enough to get them in exactly the right spot first time. Installation in general is about as much of a PITA as you'd expect, but not bad or difficult. The removeable metal clip that is designed to clip over the shell of your helmet doesn't fit properly unless you have a sport type helmet with a specific curve (I am an adventure/tourer rider so it doesn't fit on my Caberg X-Trace at all), meaning you will likely have to use the provided 3M sticky pads instead (which is not a problem, but does mean that when you come to remove the headset from the helmet it will have the potential to damage or mark the helmet shell), and again due to the curvature of the plasyic clip I have had to mount the unit at 90⁰ to how its supposed to sit. The unit is also specifically designed to go on the left hand side of the helmet, which is a little frustrating for me as a right handed person (and due to the different lengths of the cables to the earpieces, and the fact that the output is stereo, it's not possible to put the unit on the right hand side of the helmet and still have the stereo earpieces the correct way round) although as a design choice I suppose this makes sense given your right hand is needed for the throttle and brake so it's more difficult to have a free right hand while riding a motorcycle than it is to have a free left hand. It should also be noted that the volume buttons only function to change music volume and are a little slow (it requires pressing the button and waiting a few seconds for it to register before itll change, then pressing again etc, as pressing the volume buttons repeatedly too quickly will perform adifferent operation than changing volume) and they do not work to change volume during a phonecall.Overall rating is 4/5 taking all the above and the price into account; its not perfect but is pretty good for the price.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent bit of kit
Really easy to use, even in bike gloves. It is a bit fiddley to install (depending on your helmet). Sound quality is excellent. Battery life is excellent. I chose not to install the Mike, just want it for music, so you have options. Once installed, you wouldn't know it was there.Excellent value for money, would highly recommend.
3.0 out of 5 stars Sound quality is good, Bluetooth connects with no problems
Sound quality is good, connects to phone with no problems. The EQ functionality is nice. Universal pairing (with non fodsports head sets) works fine, BUT, unfortunately, it would seem that the connection can be controlled only by the other riders headset (I tried a Sena and a Freedconn). The other negative in this respect is that you cannot listen to audio, from the phone, and use the intercom at the same time. I have worked around this by adding a Bluetooth dongle to the AUX port (for use with the phone), but at the moment, I'm not sure I want extra bits hanging off my helmetI had hoped that the AUX port could be used to record audio to my camera, it works to a point; it records everything that comes out of the speakers, but does not record my voice, which means I am not able to record two way conversations, or add narration to my videosIt is adequate for most of my needs as I ride solo most of the time, but, when I am riding with friends who do not have a Fodsports unit, I may have to have a rethink. The USB charger port is USB C, but because the port is so deep in the unit, it can only be charged with the supplied cable, which is potentially a pain.In summary, nice little unit that does what it says on the tin, but although close to what I was looking for, unfortunately, no cigar. I'm going to use it, as it does most of what I want, and they are not expensive, but I suspect it is probably not going to be my last comms system
