5.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating book that exceeded my expectations.

D.P. · 10 May 2022

This book exceeded my expectations. It is well written and easy to read. There was so much material in it that it will cater for the person struggling to those wishing to use advanced methods. The author is clearly an expert in the area. The book is so well researched and uses many scientific examples and stories which are carefully documented in the references to illustrate the points. The book comes in two part. In part one the author explains how the brain and the mind work getting the reader to understand where the self learned limitations come. The author covered neuroplasticity and how the brain can rewire using some great examples. It was fascinating to learn that we see not with our eyes but with our brains and the author used an everyday example of a camera compared to the human eye to show this. The reader is left to conclude, if there are certain things that are thought of as truths and are not truths could self limiting beliefs in the ability to talk to anyone effectively be one. In addition there are some neat quotes within the book that get the reader thinking.Moving on to part two the book shows a more prescriptive method to become adept in any conversation. The author shares many hidden gems and there is a nice touch of the use of humour too. There is a clever section on how to use questions for power and control in a conversation and small talk and how to start a conversation were covered well is covered really well. This really is a mind-opening book and different to others that I have come across and is a really enjoyable read. It is a thorough guide to all things conversational. I would thoroughly recommend potential buyers to get this book.Highly recommended

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit scientific for my taste.

Will see how it develops

5.0 out of 5 stars Communication - presentation skills

D.L. · 27 November 2022

Again builds more on the sales and body language books to deepen your knowledge and understanding in communication skills. This book focuses more on speech and public speaking which is key if you are looking to build confidence in yourself to give speeches or presentations especially if in a professional capacity. Noticed some spelling and grammar mistakes but wondered if it was deliberate to focus ur awareness skills or if it was just written in a hurry to a deadline and not proof read. Still very good book if you are looking to become more self confident and become less of an introvert. Also, read the bonus chapter and listening to the audio which is excellent to relax too!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book on communication.

K.C. · 21 May 2022

I work in sales, and have read several books on communication over the years. This book ranks highly. It has the advanatage of combining several of the best bits of several books condensed into one.E.g- How to talk to anyone (liel Lowendes - Conversation tips, networking tips, body language)- Influence (Robert Cialdini - 7 factors of influence)- The Way of the wolf (NLP - State management)- Pitch anything (Break down of the reptilian, mammalian and human elements of the brain and what this means for sales)But it's also worth mentioning that there are some excellent new ideas contained in this book as well...Ultimately this is a brilliant resource for anyone looking to improve their communication skills .

3.0 out of 5 stars Typos

J.M. · 9 January 2024

I'm half way through this book and honestly have come across so many typos in the publishing. It's ironic considering the book is about communication. Extremely science based and with the typos it just doesn't read smoothly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Priceless resource!

H.G. · 8 March 2022

This is a priceless resource for anyone looking to improve their communication skills! The book is very comprehensive and covers not only how to communicate better in general but gives the reader a much deeper understanding of the topic. It covers subjects like how the mind works, how different personality types communicate, and how to change your communication approach when talking to different people. I found the chapters on dealing with challenging people and using stories to communicate very useful! The book is packed with great learning material, and easy-to-understand examples to explain the theory. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to improve their communication skills - excellent resource!

2.0 out of 5 stars A peculiar read

T. · 11 April 2024

For a book about how to communicate it's ironic that this book gives the impression that it really needs a proper edit (and editor). It's got typos. The narrative jumps around in a non-intuitive order. It's hard to link the references to the points being made- there are no footnotes or reference numbers in the text. It even has hyperlinks in the text, which obviously go nowhere in a hard copy book. The author makes some interesting points that seem worth digesting but overall the book comes across a bit slapdash, which for me undermines its credibility.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy read with clear and practical examples.

This book provides some very useful and practical tools you can try immediately to improve your conversational skills. The background information if also interesting and relevant. A worthwhile read.

Mastering Conversations: How Understanding the Brain's Secrets Transforms Communication

G.B. · 30 September 2024

How to Talk to Anybody offers a fascinating blend of neuroscience and practical advice on communication, making it an essential read for anyone looking to improve their social skills in business, management, or personal settings. One of the most striking points in the book is the idea that "the brain cannot tell the difference between something vividly imagined and something experienced." The author uses a compelling example: a group of volunteers either played piano notes or imagined playing them for five days. Both groups showed identical changes in the brain, proving that imagination can be as powerful as real experience. This insight explains why we can feel nervous or stressed even when nothing is happening—our brains are often creating imaginary scenarios that feel entirely real. The book also dives into the concept of brain plasticity. Through the story of Matthew, who lives a normal life despite having half of his brain removed, the author illustrates the brain's incredible ability to adapt and rewire itself in response to new challenges. This notion of "neuroplasticity" reinforces that we have the potential to change and adapt throughout our lives, an empowering message for anyone struggling with personal growth or learning new skills. The author emphasizes that our perceptions are not always aligned with reality. For example, only 20% of what we see is based on the actual light entering our eyes—the rest is constructed by our brains based on past experiences. This tendency of the brain to "fill in the gaps" explains phenomena like seeing faces in clouds or missing obvious objects in plain sight, such as our keys. It also points out how differently people can perceive the same situation, underlining the importance of empathy and open-mindedness in communication.Another highlight is the book's practical tips on building rapport, like mirroring someone’s breathing or using language patterns that echo their own words. The "echo technique"—repeating back exactly what someone has said—creates an instant connection, making people feel heard and understood. Similarly, the idea of using the word "because" when asking for favors taps into a hardwired human bias to comply more readily when a reason is provided, even if the reason seems trivial. The author also discusses body language, illustrating how leaning towards someone shows interest while distancing oneself shows the opposite. Upward gestures, such as those we instinctively use when talking positively, indicate optimism, while downward gestures suggest negativity. These insights into non-verbal communication are incredibly useful, especially for those navigating complex business environments. In terms of dealing with challenging situations, the book offers tools for handling complaints and difficult personalities. By agreeing with someone and echoing their concerns before suggesting a solution, it becomes almost impossible for the other person to keep arguing, as they feel validated. This simple, yet powerful approach helps de-escalate tense situations and steer conversations towards a positive outcome. In a world where effective communication is crucial, How to Talk to Anybody stands out as both enlightening and highly applicable. It not only provides a deep understanding of how the brain works in social interactions but also equips readers with practical strategies to become better communicators. This book is a must-read for anyone interested in mastering the subtle art of conversation—whether in business or in everyday life.

Es una buena introduccion para entender como socializar

I didn't read this book

Z.S. · 22 October 2024

I bought for my son (17), and he said that is ok. Helpful.

A must read...

F.Q. · 30 March 2024

CQFD
