    Because of the hard water. Our kettle has that rim around the glass and the water looks foggy. Which makes the kettle look dirty 🤔 on the inside. So I bought a tub of citric acid and put a table spoon full in. Boiled the water and watched it disappear. Also the kettle looks like new on the inside. And you can taste the water difference after using the citric acid. Also the tub is value for money 💰 I'd recommend you try it for yourself. It has no smell and no after effects. You can even clean the bath taps and sink taps and the sink too.all good from me..👍

    Perfect for budget but good descaling! Does the kettle really well and about to try on my coffee maker, great for thermos flasks too. Much cheaper than commercial descalers

    Good value for money citric acid powder bought to descale a coffee machine.I've used white vinegar before, but this left an odour in the kitchen for a while and made me flush the machine through with a lot of clean water before I was confident there would be no aftertaste.I used three desert spoons of powder dissolved in a little hot water and then topped up to a litre with cold water.I couldn't tell if the inner workings of the machine descaled, but I reused the solution in my kettle and after boiling, it was spotless so I would say it does the job it was bought for. The solution doesn't smell, but tastes very citrousy so I flushed it through a couple of times.I presume this solution could be reused for any other appliances that would need descaling such as steam irons.

    Very good product, I have used it in the kettle, did a great job, only problem I have with it, is there are no instructions on what to use it for or the amount you need to use.
