5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for parents and arthritic hands
Love this kettle, well worth the money!I can safely make a hot drink now.One press of a button makes the lid spring up, I use a cup to fill the kettle as I can’t lift it once it’s full.Set the cup on the attached drip tray and open the spout on the side. The dial to change quantity of water is incredibly handy and if you’re not sure how much you’ll need you can always press the emergency stop button. If you know the amount you need then you just leave it to do its thing! Very handy as a parent to little ones too.All buttons require minimal strength to operate and it looks lovely!! Usually trying to find something accessible means practicality over style but not with this.Haven’t stopped raving about it, would absolutely recommend it to everyone x
1.0 out of 5 stars Intermittent single cup flow, leaks from base.
I bought this to replace a 'one-cup' boiled water dispenser as I liked the idea of versatility; being able to boil a kettles worth of water too.Initially it worked well, although the cup size adjustment wasn't quite bit enough for the range of cups/mugs that we have. After some time the single cup dispense facility became temperamental, but was able to be remedied with a finger flick of the spout. After some further time water was seen to be puddled around the base of the unit. Initially I assumed it was over flow from the drop tray, but this was not the case. Then I thought it may be the single cup dispenser spout leaking when it was closed, but there was never any evidence of water running down the outside of the body of the kettle.Upon further inspection it can only logically be leaking from around the underside of the unit. This deposits water directly onto the base of the kettle which provides the 240Vac to the unit, not the best combination...Unfortunately the return window for the item is only three months and I've been persisting with the item for nearly a year. I'm sure if I'd bought this from a bricks and mortar store I'd still be able to return it within a year (for what looks like a manufacturing issue to me) for a replacement, but I can't find an avenue to do this here on Bolo.I've given the one star review to reflect to poor workmanship of the construction of the unit and the lack of ability to obtain a replacement unit. Should Bolo or the seller reach out and organise replacement (with a fully functioning, over an extended period), I'll happily amend/retract this review accordingly.
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect
Really simple to use and boil time is great, good quality built kettle and appearance is nice with our other appliances, get good temperature too. Happy with it
4.0 out of 5 stars Great idea
This 'kettle' is smart, looks good although it is large. The idea of one cup shot is great but unfortunately the amount of water dispensed even on max isn't enough to fill a mug, meaning is has to be adjusted and run again. I realise the design has to strike a balance etc. But it kind of defeats half the purpose. Using it as a 'normal' kettle it's heavy and takes a long time to boil. It has helped massively in my house with a disabled user but maybe a little more refinement is needed.
3.0 out of 5 stars Makes hot water... inelegantly and not very hot
We previously had a Breville Hot Cup which was great, except for two things: it can't boil a large volume at once; and it stopped working with no hint of the problem after 5 years. But I love the hit-and-forget nature of one-cup kettles, and the electricity saving you get. After a bit of research, this Laica seemed a nice idea: one cup boiling, but the option to also boil a large volume. I was aware that it may not have boiled the hottest, and there were reports that its cup sizes were inaccurate.Reader, after nearly 3 months I can confirm that both are true. I believe the one cup function on this comes out at about 75-80C, noticeably cooler than the Breville (which probably also wasn't quite at 100C). Tea does not taste at good at this temperature, so we regularly microwave our "one cup" after it is full so the tea brews better. And the cup sizes do vary somewhat, unlike the Breville which was consistent (although the dial on the Laica is better - the Breville is a bit loose so unless you are at the ends or in the middle, it's not necessarily easy to specify an intermediate volume). The total volume on the Laica is not huge, at 1.5l max, which means filling up a bit more often. And having a small lid means slightly more difficult to fill. It also feels a bit plasticky and flimsy compared with the Breville, although I could live with that if it was a better kettle. My other half, however, feels the Laica has made her life a little duller. She just does not love it, which is an accumulation of never quite getting the right cuppa out of it, refilling it more often (and with a touch more awkwardness than any other kettle), and a humdrum white colouring which you know is going to show the dirt. I will resist buying a new one while this works, but I fear it may soon meet with "an accident".
5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant full kettle or just one cup
The media could not be loaded. Brilliant piece of equipment only issue with it is why the hell did i not find this years ago.If you just put one cup of water in or fill it to the max it only heats enough watet for one cup.I tested it fill it up after about 50 seconds it despensed one cup of water. Then it tested the rest of the water in the kettle and it was still cool so it really does only heat one cup but it would be a pain if you had to put a single cup in every time you want.It gives convenience and is cost effective. As you can see in the real time video its quck and the kettle really was full to the max but only dispensed the measured amount i wantedIn the water you can see the small medium and largest cup measures not a massive difference but enough to make the perfect cup dispensed.I would highly recommend
