    Authentic and Awesome Sounds

    M.D.M. · 15 May 2024

This Casio 61-Key Portable Keyboard (LK-S450) is awesome in every way. This lighted key keyboard is more than just a learning keyboard. It connects to everything I have and works with all the music software I have, including the Casio software. The LED screen is fantastic and helps make the keyboard easy to navigate. The sounds in this keyboard are authentic sounding and awesome. The touch sensitivity is great, which can be turned off anytime I want. There are plenty of tones and rhythms. There are plenty of built in songs to learn. This keyboard is worth every dollar I spent on it. I highly recommend this Casio keyboard.

you can copy songs to the onboard memory and skip the apps

The media could not be loaded. I think this is a great keyboard for beginners. you can learn to play without learning sheet music or musical theory on this keyboard although you should learn those things too. it has a lot of instruments and built in songs and even some piano exercises to help you learn. it is not built like a child's toy and the control panel is minimal and not too distracting. most people will be happy enough with mary had a little lamb and yankee doodle but I was able to push it to do more for me with some computer skills.I wanted a product that lets me learn to play based on my own midi files. this isn't that difficult with the apps that casio makes. both chordana play and casio music space got me connected to my galaxy s20 FE when I used a male USB-C to female USB-A adapter and an ordinary micro USB cable. but I don't want to plug in my phone all the time or buy the overpriced bluetooth adapter that casio makes. some people also hate the apps or their phone doesn't want to cooperate. the apps have tons of negative reviews since so many people can't get it to work. you can instead load the songs with a flash drive and never use the phone as long as you are really good with FL Studio.I found the midi file I wanted to play and I went into FL Studio and duplicated the file in a project. I used "split by channel" to separate all the channels so they could become separate tracks. in one of the tracks I deleted all but the left hand notes and in the other I had the right hand notes. then I had to use the channel rack to specify the instruments for each hand, and finally I had to use the macro called "prepare for midi export" so I could designate each of these to a midi channel. I suggest you use channel 3 for the left hand and channel 4 for the right hand. these are the defaults on the keyboard. after that I was able to export the project to a midi file including events like the tempo changing over the song. I copied the file to the keyboard with a FAT32 formatted flash drive. the midi files should be placed in a folder called MUSICDAT so the keyboard can see them.I didn't see this in the manual but if you mess up the channel numbers you can start the song by pressing the SONG button, and then there is a menu to specify the channel for each hand. if you didn't separate each hand's notes into their own channels you can also just pick the one channel that has the notes, but you won't get the feature where you can just practice only one hand. once you have specified the channels per hand in the SONG mode you can change to the LESSON mode and it will remember the configuration until you shut the keyboard off. it is more convenient to get everything right in FL Studio first but that process is very complicated and not documented anywhere. I still have not figured out how in LESSON mode to get it to say the number of each finger when I am about to play a note. it does this with all the built in songs. otherwise I am happy with my setup. it took me hours to learn how to prepare the file but I was totally naive to FL Studio.

A great keyboard with some drawbacks

This is my first and only keyboard currently, and I am onlyr recently learning to play. Overall, I like it for its collection of tones and the play-along feature with the light-up keys, but the controls are a bit hard to use, and when using headphones many of the tones do not sound good.Pros:- good feel to the keys; not too light or heavy- many tones which sound good when played through the built-in speakers- the play-along "lesson" feature is fun for what it is; you can learn the notes of a song over time- the ability to define a section of a song to repeat is also a plusCons:- when playing through headphones, many if not all of the sampled or more complex-sounding tones are virtually inaudible; maybe it's just my headphones, but it is worth ponting out- controls are hard to work with, or at least require some more effort to get comfortable with (though I am not there yet), especially with the lesson feature; it is a struggle to define the section you want to focus on and to control the start/stop of the song- the play-along feature is nice at first, but when I am trying to learn the notes, it is frustrating that the keyboard will usually just move on if you hit a key that is close enough or hit a couple other than the correct note, so it is not forcing the user to fix their mistakes
