5.0 out of 5 stars Great little machine
This is a great little coffee maker, and great value for money. As other reviews point out, removing the filters is not described usefully in the instructions: I was baffled as to what I had to align the raised dot to. Finally discovered a minuscule marking just on the side where the handle connects, and that's where the raised dot can slide in or out. I don't use milk in my coffee so can't comment on the functionality of the spout but did notice (after accidentally pressing the steam button) that it takes quite a long while for the machine to cool down to make coffee, so do take care. The machine warms up really quickly and makes an excellent espresso with great crema. It's easy to use, but you do need to watch that you don't touch the controls while grabbing the machine to release the piston but I don't find that difficult at all. It's really good value for money, I'm really happy I went with this one and not the £70 more expensive alternative.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good espresso machine, good price
This is the first review I have wriiten on Bolo; I don't intend to make a habit of it, but I found very little information about this machine when I bought it and thought I ought to rectify the situation for others. What You need to know: It is quite sturdy despite inevitably being clad in plastic. The coffee holder is large and solid as it should be for a machine producing 15 bar pressure. Because of this amount of pressure it produces the "crema" or foam on top of the coffee from the machine, which as an ex-Nespresso user I now consider to be essential. As easy to clean as these things can be and a decent size water reservoir. Two preset and unchangeable quantity buttons dispense the coffee for one or two espresso cup measures. The third button is for the wand which will dispense either hot water or steam. The single greatest advantages over the Nespresso system is price; I calculate I will spend between half and one quarter the amount of money using this machine instead of Nespresso. There is a far greater choice of coffee buying ground as well. Petra offer a 3 year guarantee, which I am very much hoping not to use...

This coffee machine is just the size for a small kitchen.
2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
Bought this as a Christmas present for my mother. Ended up very disappointed and had to return it. The portafilter came with the double espresso basket inserted. It took ages to remove it as there were no instructions on how to do so. I then inserted the single espresso basket and there was no way of removing it. Tried everything but it wouldn’t budge, so I couldn’t change back to a double shot. It’s also tricky to insert the portafilter into the machine. It’s not very well made which is reflective of the price. However the espresso came out nice and the steam wand worked well, it was also compact which was nice.
4.0 out of 5 stars Instructions not very clear but this is a good coffee machine once you get used to it
This is my 3rd (or possibly 4th) coffee machine and they all work in basically the same way, but you do have to become familiar with each machine's particular idiosyncracies. With this machine I had an initial problem with the filters, indeed I actually returned the 1st machine which I bought, believing it to be faulty (Sorry Bolo!) However, when I ordered a replacement machine I encountered exactly the same problem and started to realise that maybe I had got it wrong and it was simply the instructions which were unclear. The problem was as follows - the machine comes with 2 filters, a 1cup filter and a 2cup filter. The instruction leaflet gives exactly the same instructions for both and I quote " Insert the single/double cup filter into the filter holder. Fully align THE raised dot on the filter with the filter holder slot. Rotate the cup until it is secured in place". I have put the word THE in capital letters as it clearly indicates that there is only 1 raised dot. This is indeed the case with the 2cup filter but not with the 1cup filter which has 2 raised dots, one at either side. This is not mentioned in the instructions so I assumed my machine was faulty. I tried fitting the 1cup filter into the filter holder and could not get it to fit in because of the extra raided dot. I now realise that it will go in if you rotate the filter sufficiently. Once I realised my mistake, I was able to use the coffee machine and have been doing so daily. One minor issue that annoys me somewhat is that when you press the button to pour the coffee, it does not keep pouring until you stop it, it will dispense a small amount of coffee and then stop and will only restart after you have pressed the button again. I find I have to press the button 3 times to get a single cup of coffee. This is annoying but not a major problem. It does make a lovely cappuccino, and after all this is what really matters. I also find that the machine, although full sized, is shaped so that it takes up very little space in the kitchen and if you have a small kitchen this will be helpful. Overall, now that I have got used to it, I am quite happy with it.
4.0 out of 5 stars Decent, value machine
Occasionally it needs the hot water to run through the wand before resetting and being able to make coffee, otherwise works fine.
