It's a Razor with a High Price Tag
Being 62, I’m set in my ways when it comes to razors, blades and assorted paraphernalia. Given a choice, I’d probably stay with my old standard - a double edge, butterfly opening razor that uses blades that may cost 20 cents each. But when I was given the opportunity to test this product, I said “why not?” After all, I’ve tested other razor handles before. Then I saw the price (honest, I didn’t know the cost until checking it out later). $120 for a razor handle and Mach 3 blade? This had better be one high class rig for that price.Even before I got the handle I did my research. Bolin Webb is a UK based company that designs and manufactures their handles in-house and, more often than not, bases designs and colors upon concurrent exotic cars. Prices seem to range from $80 to $120 USD.Might explain why Harrods and Saks Fifth Avenue, among others - including Bolo, sell these units. Oh, if you’re wondering, there is no price advantage that I could see by going to one vendor over another (unless you find a sale and that seems to be rare). When my razor finally arrived I was pleasantly surprised by a nice box with the razor handle and travel case (looks to be silicone) Mach 3 blade and....Well, that’s it. No instructions. No thank you notes. Diddly and squat. Now for a bit of clarification. The description states graphite but that refers to the color, not to the construction.Come to think of it, the description states nothing of overall construction materials although the main website states “metallic” and leaves it at that. Judging from the light weight and the fact it doesn’t attract magnets, I’d have to guess aluminum.Except for the underside. It appears to be rubber or maybe silicone and it does help with the grip during usage. As for that color, it’s perfectly applied. Not a smudge, smear or imperfection anywhere.Shaving is just find with this handle, but that’s the job of the Mach 3 blade. A proven winner for a couple decades, the Mach 3 does a good job of shaving for nearly a week before you have to replace it (at a cost of nearly $2 each unless you opt for off-brand generics). And now comes my opinion:* It’s a nice razor handle but nothing special in my opinion. It’s not something a visitor to your house would look at and go, “wow!.* Using a razor is pretty straightforward but even the cheapest razor handles come with instructions. This came with absolutely nothing.* One blade head? Really? For $120 you could at least toss in a half dozen replacement heads. As for the price, that is a personal matter, so I’ll leave that decision up to you.
Really high price for what you get
This is a luxury product that exists for no particular reason other than to be expensive - as if anyone but you cares about what razor you use anyway (and I say this as a shaving hobbyist and razor collector).Shave quality: It's a Gillette Mach3 razor (you know, the same razor that has been around since the 1990s). You already know whether or not you like the Mach3 if you are considering this razor. I find the Mach3 to be a serviceable cartridge but far from my favorite. I don't get good longevity out of Mach3 carts and the blades feel fairly rough on my face compared to more modern options.Handle: This handle does definitely look nice with a very glossy metallic finish, but it is not very easy to hold. It is very narrow in shape with a counterintuitive slippery feel. It may look really sharp and fancy as a decorative piece but it does not feel like it was actually made for the human hand to comfortably hold and use.Case: The case that comes with this set is shockingly bad given the packaging's claim that it is "award winning." It's a soft and floppy silicone case that feels like it won't protect your $130 razor handle from any serious damage. It will protect the finish from scuffs and scratches though, which is likely the main concern.I'm certain this razor handle was made for someone, but I'm not sure exactly who. Shaving enthusiasts likely aren't inclined to spend $130 on a cartridge razor but rather would buy a nice straight or a double-edge razor for that money. In my honest opinion, this razor should cost at most about $50 which would make it a lot more accessible as an easy father's day gift or similar. As it stands though, nothing about this package feels like it is worth $130. I cannot recommend it.
It LOOKS nice
It comes in a fancy box, but really? $130 dollars worth? I don’t think so.Considering it’s only using a drugstore brand of replacement cartridges, and also, doesn’t give you any spares in the box, this is an expensive razor. I sort of expected a weighty, solid handle, and it’s not. The case is also nothing to write home about - just a generic silicon carry case.I got this to shave my legs, because my husband uses disposables, and didn’t seem at all interested in reviewing this, i got it for my legs. It does the job. But it doesn’t do a better job than any other razor, because the business end is a Gillette Mach 111, and there’s nothing fancy about those. Even my Venus razor has 5 blades, and 2 strips of moisturizing glide at the top and bottom.Yes, it’s a fancy handle, but not a heavy handle, I’m sure that’s where the money was spent, because i can see no other component on this unit that is expensive. An automotive primer and finish - does that really cost so much? On a unit this small? It does come with a 2 year warranty, should you experience issues with it.
VERY Classy, Rich Looking Bolin Webb Graphite Handle Razor
This Bolin Webb Graphite Handle Razor is absolutely beautiful and def a Nice Addition to anyone that shaves! It’s like a piece of Fancy Artwork with how the handle of this razor is Crafted! The Razor comes in a really nice gift box that’s fully padded and elegant all the way around. The razor comes complete with a travel case as well as it’s already loaded with one Mach 3 Blade Cartridge which is great for sensitive skin!If you’ve never shaved with a Mach 3 Blade, you’re in for a real treat! It shaves the thickest beards and hair with ease and stays Plenty Sharp for a long time. You’re able to use this blade over and over again with proper cleaning and drying of the blades after use. I always use a brush as well as warm water to clean the blades after each use. I let it air dry before ever putting it up. If you’ll do that, you’ll be surprised how long your blade will last you. You can find replacement blades online with no problem at all! This Razor handle is made in England which makes this such a special set. It’s Primed and Painted to an Automotive Finish, R1. This set is by far one of the coolest shavers I’ve owned in a really long time! The way this razor feels in my hand while using it, is phenomenal! It’s weighted perfectly and is so smooth, you just don’t want to stop shaving, haha. I can’t believe I even said that as I don’t like shaving. But with this razor, I’m pretty sure you’ll feel the same exact way, it’s such a good razor is all I can say.The stock pictures as well as the ones I provided just don’t do this set justice. It’s a lot more impressive in front of you is all I can say! The Razor is Backed by a Two Year Guarantee which is great peace of mind with an item like this. The price point of this set is well within line compared to other sets with this type of Craftsmanship and Exquisite Quality. This would make an EXCELLENT GIFT to Anyone that Shaves. You’ll be gifting a True Piece of Artwork, it’s beautiful!I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Bolin Webb Graphite handle razor, it’s Awesome is all ways! I hope you find this review Helpful, thanks for reading it.
Cmon! Really who falls for this
Who in their right mind is going to pay this high price for a razor handle that feels like plastic. It’s barely weighted. The R1 writing is a clear sticker attached. It’s not even engraved or etched! It comes with 1 cartridge! Let me say it again! 1 cartridge. It’s only 3 blades and a Gillette that’s a run of the mill common thing you can get at any store. The handle gets too wide to really be handled well when making the turns up your chin to your cheek. Who cares about the fancy packaging if it’s going to sit in the cupboard in it’s silicone case. I do like that but what’s the real point?!?!? Water will just sit in it and get moldy over time.
