This shaver is the best shaver I have ever used, smooth operation, very comfortable feel whilst shaving, style is superb, in fact there is nothing I could find fault with.
Great gift idea for the important moments
James Bond called, and he wants his razor back. Made in England, this is a sleek styled razor handle with a Gillette Fusion5 cartridge. At first, I thought that it was a bit odd for a luxury razor to use a readily available cartridge from another company, but as soon as I shaved with it, I realized why -- the cartridge is nearly perfect, and why mess with perfection? The pivot action of the head is spectacular, with about 50-60 degrees of play. It glides over the skin following the contours. After one or two passes, my cheeks were as smooth as I could ask for -- probably the closest I've ever gotten from a cartridge razor. So what do you get that isn't included in a stock Gillette Fusion5 kit? For starters, there's the base. This weighted base uses a magnet to hold the razor in what I call the "ready position." The styling is subtly modern, with great colors. At 54 grams, the razor is a mid-weight razor; it's much heavier than a disposable, and about half the weight of my ordinary metal dual-sided safety razor. The set comes in a stylish black box with a custom molded interior. So who is this for? This would be a great gift for anyone who is a shaving aficionado who wants to add something extraordinary to the morning routine. It would also be good gift for someone who has just had a major achievement, life event, or just a very special "thank you."
The perfect April fools prank!
The media could not be loaded. Product: Bolin Webb Handle with Razor Stand in Matte Blue. Fitted with Gillette Fusion 5 Blade Cartridge Technology for The Closest Shave. Award Winning Razors for Men - Made in England. Style is X1I won’t comment on the bundled [ASIN:B000BUUVTY Gillette Fusion5] razor head because technically that’s a different product. But as for everything else, I have to agree with the other reviews here - it’s an unjustifiably expensive razor ($200 USD). Who did Bolin°Webb make this for, anyway? The build quality of this razor handle is indeed quite nice - the blue outer surface looks sleek. The problem is with the soft-touch, matte silicon coating - it feels sticky. Dust & hairs tend to stick to the surface - that’s not something I want in a razor. For the price point, I expected the handle to be heavier. Good thing it's not, because……the razor stand/cradle sucks. It has one job (hold the razor), which it performs laughably bad. The magnets just aren’t strong enough. You cannot just drop the razor down onto the stand - you must gingerly and gently place the handle into the slot, as if you are handling an injured baby bird or diffusing an explosive.Once on the stand, the hold isn’t very secure. I dropped something onto the countertop and the vibration caused the razor to fall off its cradle. If you pick up the cradle or slide it around the counter, the razor falls off.If you blow on it, the razor falls off.If you look at it funny, the razor falls off.If you place the razor down, it falls off anyways.Overall, my Dollar Shave Club razor handle feels significantly better in the hand at a fraction of the price. I don’t know who this expensive razor is for, but it certainly isn’t for me. Unless you’re searching for an out-of-season April fools joke, save your money and pass on this.
Great Gift Idea but Slightly Expensive
I really enjoyed this razor. I've used expensive razors in the past and like those the Bolin Webb does an excellent job. Using the Gillette Fusion 5 blade it makes quick work of any stubble that is sticking up. The fusion 5 isn't my favorite choice in cartridge razors but it definitely does the job.The handle has a wonderful grip texture to it that feels premium. The smooth curvature of the body fits great in my hand as I move it up and down and side to side. It never felt uncomfortable to handle. I appreciate the weight as well. Most consumer based razor handles are bulky and heavy where as this feels like it was meant for my hand rather than all hands. The base is heavy. When I say heavy, I mean it. When placed on the bathroom counter it is meant to stay in place by it's weight alone. The handle stays on it by an internal magnet. It looks as if it is floating in mid air. It really is a nice tool that stands out. When people use our restroom I'm sure they would notice this and possibly comment on it. Even if it's a comment to themselves. As for price point this could be a little high at $200. It may be difficult to justify even with the nice handle, base, and automotive style paint job. It certainly screams quality to the point that if someone gifted it to me I would have to show it off to my guy friends when they come over.I believe the detail work, packaging, and the comfort of use makes this razor great to have. I'm not sure about the price point, I feel that though it is a fantastic tool I believe that it could benefit from having the price adjusted slightly. It would make an excellent gift from a wife to a husband, absolutely!
A work of art that provides an incredibly close shave
The media could not be loaded. The Bolan Webb Handle with Razor Stand is such a sleek and stylish men's razor. The magnetic base holds the razor handle near the base, and it almost looks like an airplane taking off. This is an impressive product because of the innovative design and the beautiful matte blue color. It is stunning. The five-blade technology gives such a close shave. My face feels so soft after shaving with this razor. Everything about this product is classy and stylish. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes the finer things in life and the financial resources to afford such an opulent razor.
Decent but extremely expensive handle
I like this handle better than the Mach3 version made by Bolin Webb. The Fusion handle is larger all the way around and feels slightly more comfortable in my hand (but not as good as a normal Fusion handle) due to the addition of a non-slip rubbery coating. This also means the razor has a matte finish instead of a glossy one, but it still looks pretty nice.If you're considering this purchase, then you probably already know how you feel about Fusion ProGlide cartridges (which is the included variety here), and you also probably don't care about how much the refills cost. I find Fusion ProGlide cartridges to feel pretty grabby/aggressive but they also shave very closely and I can get a month's worth of shaves from one cartridge, which makes the value a little better than it initially seems. They aren't my favorite cartridge razor by a long shot, but I see why other folks do like them. The best part of this package for me is the razor stand. It's HEAVY and looks very fancy with the way the razor seems to hover over it.Of course, not too many people are going to even see that you own a $200 razor, and they certainly aren't going to give it much of a second thought even if they do recognize it. It's just really hard to justify why this handle costs as much as it does.I would feel much better about this set if it cost $60-$75 (MAX) but that is still a hefty price to pay for a cartridge razor. Ultimately, determining the value is up to the individual, but nothing in this package says "I'm worth $200" in my eyes.
