5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, Amazing Fresh Flavour although It Doesn't Come Cheap
I normally buy the cheaper brands of tinned tuna and mostly use it in cooking things like pasta bakes and a family favourite which is tuna mayonnaise pasta shells. I ordered these tins thinking that they would be pretty much the same as those that I'm used to but boy was I wrong. This pack came to me as a box of fifteen tins each having 160 grams of tuna, so far they are about the same as my older and cheaper product but thats where the similarity ends.On opening one of the tins, the smell hit me immediately, such a strong and fresh tuna aroma, something I never thought possible from a tinned product. As the tin was opened our little dog went totally mental, running in circles around the kitchen and barking for his dinner, I'm sure that he is a cat in disguise, lol.Looking at the tuna after I had drained it in a sieve, it looked so much richer than the pale looks of my usual tinned stuff and I just couldn't bring myself to spoil the flavour with mayonnaise or by baking it. As can be seen in my photo I rushed to make some tuna sandwiches out of this product and some lovely soft and light white bread with real butter.I rarely eat very much during the day at all but I ate every single one of those sandwiches seen on the plate in that photo. I was totally full by the end of it but they were so moorish that I had to keep taking another and another, lol. This has been a real eye opener for me as I just never realised that a tinned tuna could taste so good. I gave a tin to my daughter to try and she is now pestering me for another one but they are now to previous to me so I'm keeping the rest, lol. Once I have eaten my way through these fifteen tins I will have to save my pennies and buy some more, no more of the cheap brands for me after being spoilt with these.Another thing that I didn't think of straight away but I don't usually like tinned tuna in oil, I always normally buy it in brine. It wasn't until after I had eaten the sandwiches that I realised this was tinned in oil, it was that good that I didn't even notice, lol.I can recommend this tuna to anyone that loves seafood, your tastebuds will love you forever.Gorgeous, just gorgeous.
5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful tasting, sustainably fished tuna
As a family, we enjoy eating fish a few times a week. We've eaten our fair share of tuna, infact it's one of my favourites. We were very interested to give these tuna steaks a try especially as they're not only sustainably fished by local boats, but use extra virgin first cold pressed organic olive oil in the tin. They sound absolutely delicious don't they? There are 15 cans (160g each ) of tuna steak in total in the box. Although the price of £51.75 seems initially expensive ( it works out at just over £3.40 a tin), these tuna steaks are gourmet eating and not like the usual tinned tuna you would find in the local supermarket. Upon opening, I noticed the colour of the meat straightaway - it's a lovely deep, meaty colour. The olive oil is very rich in colour and it felt almost like a crime to drain some of this from the can. The tuna comes out of the can as good solid pieces - there are no flakes or gaps in the tin. This is a good quality amount of tuna steak! It's ready to be used in your chosen dish, or you could just pop it on a sandwich ( although that feels like a crime too ). How do they taste? Absolutely divine! These is possibly the best tuna steak I've ever eaten. Oh my goodness it's wonderful. The olive oil has provided delightful extra flavour and the tuna tastes so good, that you could eat this straight out of the can! After one taste, I had to stop myself doing just that. This for me, is a winner all around - sustainably fished, containing organic olive oil, amazing quality and the best I've ever tasted. Winner, winner tuna dinner! I can't recommend enough.
5.0 out of 5 stars The only tuna I want to ever eat...
Wow.I am a huge fan of tuna but in recent years got a little concerned with the microplastics that can come from poorly sourced tuna, typically in those cheaper supermarket cans. Finally, I had the honour of trying out a premium tuna, Fish4Ever. Wow, you can truly taste the difference here. The texture and the taste is second to non, and in fact, the tuna has a lovely tenderness to it. Something I wouldn't expect from a brand like John west. This particular tuna is Azores Skipjack and is marinated in organic olive oil Usually with cheaper tuna, I would get rid of the olive oil as it was sickly and fishy. However, this olive oil is truly divine and doesn't taste fishy whatsoever. I personally have tuna salads once a week and have been using this olive oil from the can to pour delicately over my salad with some salt and seasoning. The tuna is beautifully balanced and wil have you reaching out for another can before you know it.The one thing I will say is that it is very pricey. I have seen this brands in delicatessen shops such as Whole Foods and Planet Organic around the £4-£5 each price range. This is usually the price for 4 cans of Tuna in the supermarket but if you truly want something of exquisite taste and premium quality with ethical sourcing, look no further. 5 stars for Fish 4 Ever!!Thank you for reading my honest review, I hope you found it helpful! :)
4.0 out of 5 stars A bit over oiled…
The credentials of this are amazingly good, line caught on small boats for small businesses, and as a result the tuna itself is firm, a good colour and full of flavour. Not flaking either, good solid chunks instead of the usual pallid, flaky stuff from the mass caught fish.I applaud the decision to pack it in organic cold pressed olive oil but I’ve got to be honest, I don’t actually like it…it’s almost too oily and for me, drowns the fish flavour. I’m used to tuna in spring water (I don’t like the excess saltiness of fish in brine either, yes I know I’m ridiculously fussy). But my daughter loves this, and finds it far more satisfying than the mass caught fish. I admit, with quality like this, it does seem a waste to bung it in sandwich! However, such quality comes at a price, and this is no exception. When you’re budgeting, this is a big ticket item really - perhaps better saved for evening meals rather than the kids’ packed lunches….
