5.0 out of 5 stars My new favourite pair

    L.N. · 31 July 2024

So glad I bought these, they were a treat and wondered if I should spend the money. Worth the price and value for money. The fit is very comfortable, does have not excessive clamp and light weight. I forget I have them on sometimes and even that they have a cable.Sound wise they sound pretty neutral to me, but I’m not an expert. You can hear more detail in the mix and instruments. Sound stage is not impressive but not bad either. I have a pair of Sony WH-1000XM4s and although they are fairly easy to listen to they are far to bassy the point of being harsh and sound muddy, if you have been listening to these. Better frequency-wise, and more comfortable than a pair of oldish Grado SR225s.Yes they are open, yes there are other more practical headphones with noise cancelling and wireless features, and apps etc. But these are old school, no fuss and make you appreciate the music again.. easy to understand why they are fan favourites. Always surprised when I put them on.Only gripe is that the cable catches my nose and mouth when taking them off in a hurry. Theyre a bit underpowered on my iPhone, so you’ll need a dac or amp of some sorts. Works perfectly well on my MacBook Pro without extra amplification.Decent build quality, but sadly no decent case for your money.

I've added the 660s2 to my arsenal of headphones and IEMs as I have missed owning a full size open back headphone for several years. Although this is a 300ohm headphone, the high sensitivity means that you don't need a super powerful amp to get them very loud, bearing in mind that loud does not necessarily mean adequately powered though. Just out of interest I first tried them with my A306 Sony Walkman (UK version with the volume cap) and my Xperia 1iii phone using their headphone sockets, I expected them to be pretty quiet at max volume, instead both got the headphones plenty loud at about 75% volume, I was shocked, I have an IEM that needs to be played at a higher volume setting, they sounded very enjoyable. I then tried them balanced with an IFI Go Bar DAC/amp, that sounded even better, more energetic, better bass definition, notes more incisive. Same performance using the IFI Go Blu. The overall sound is full bodied, neutral-warm and engaging.Bass is great, not just for an open headphone but in general. The sound works with every genre I tried from trad music from across Asia to experimental electronic to jazz. I think if you found these to be bass light you've probably been listening to wireless headphones with the bass boosted for too long. They feel robust, very comfortable, I have a biggish head and found the clamp force to be fine. Cable is a length suited to use at a desk, feels very durable but I may have a shorter, lighter cable made for use with portable devices at home.I'm very pleased with the 660s2.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sound quality is not just the response curve

    G. · 28 September 2023

I had been thinking that Sennheiser's HD600 series might be worth a try, but had put it off for some years because my favoured source did not have enough power to drive them. Recently I updated my DAP to a model that has ample power to drive 300 Ohm headphones. This created the opportunity to try the recently launched HD660S2 which has been greeted as having an improved response curve, compared with the previous top Sennheiser in this price range. The advantage of the new model is supposed to be in punchier bass and (important this) the bass is claimed to give more air in the treble. If you look at the comparison between the response curves, easily found in the tech press, this seemed quite plausible. I have to say that the bass seemed to me nothing at all remarkable, but the registers above that seemed lacking in clarity, and certainly no sparkle at the top. Plenty loud enough. This might be fine in some choices of repertoire. For orchestra it produced an overall result where the staging was not precise, and instrumental colours were not as distinct as they should be. Clarinets and flutes and oboes shouldn't be so hard to separate, in terms of tone colour, which is to say the harmonic profile up in the stratosphere wasn't being efficiently retrieved. So I decided these cans were not for me, even with tons of power to drive them. Others may differ, and I think it is quite likely they have been optimised for very different source material, which would mean that people who listen to technical/classical material won't be as impressed as those who focus on vocals with a few backing instruments. From a design and build standpoint, I thought they were quite impressive; unlike some who dislike the "ferocious" clamping, I thought this just made for a snug fit.

I've been using a quality pair of B&W headphones for a decade or so and thought they were as good as it gets. I thought I'd go for a new pair and after a bit of research plumped on these Sennheisers. It was when I fired them up that I realised what I had been missing. I was shocked by the extra detail they provided. Being open backed they have a sense of airiness and space about them....but...they still have a solid and extended bass. Comfort wise they take a bit of getting used to but they are in no way uncomfortable. Build quality is excellent and I believe all parts are replaceable. Yes they are high impedence but all my devices can drive them with no problem. Expensive but worth every penny.

Do momentu zamówienia HD660S2. Te słuchawki są niesamowite. Wiadomo potrzebują "zasilenia" i dobrej jakości utworów i dzięki temu oddają pełną moc. Jedyny problem to zakup.

    a. · 27 November 2024

    Great Headphones for Classical Music

    M.W. · 16 October 2024

I listens mostly to classical music (Bach and Mozart preferably). I tried these in a Macbook Air 2020 and a Mac Mini Pro and in my humble opinion does they sound much better in the Mac Mini Pro and a Fiio Q3, so I guess you need a good DAC to get full benefit. I even tried a little Metallica and Death and they have never sounded better. Before I have used Sennheiser 599 and Beyerdynamic 880 Pro of which I prefer the 880. These are great, and I listen mostly for hours when working at my computer.
