5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic Dutch oven for the price, and perfect for sourdough baking!

    A. · 10 September 2024

I've been on the lookout for a new cast iron Dutch oven ever since my trusty old one, which I had for over a decade, sadly broke during a house move. Having gone without one for a while, I recently got into baking sourdough bread and realised it was the perfect excuse to buy a new one. After countless hours of researching the ideal size, coating, and colour, I decided on this Overmont 6.6L enamelled cast iron Dutch oven, specifically because I wanted a larger capacity for baking bigger loaves, and I’m so glad I did!At first, I was sceptical since I'd never heard of Overmont before, but everything about this oven won me over. The size is absolutely perfect for large sourdough loaves, casseroles, and hearty stews. The enamelled coating is not only beautiful, but incredibly practical. The bright orange finish was exactly as shown in the photos, vibrant and eye-catching, which I was thrilled about since you often don’t get that level of accuracy when ordering online. One of the things that stood out immediately was how well-made this Dutch oven is. The moment I lifted the box, I could feel its solid build. It is heavy, just like you’d expect from quality cast iron, and feels durable enough to last a lifetime. I was particularly drawn to its ability to handle high heat both on the hob and in the oven, which makes it perfect for searing meats or getting that amazing crust on a sourdough loaf.In terms of performance, this Dutch oven doesn’t disappoint. It heats up quickly and retains the heat exceptionally well, which is crucial for baking. I’ve baked a few loaves of sourdough in it already, and each one has turned out with a beautifully crisp crust and soft, airy interior. It also works wonders for slow-cooked dishes like casseroles and stews, locking in moisture and flavour thanks to its tight-fitting lid.The delivery was fast, and the packaging was impressive. Everything arrived in pristine condition, including some lovely extras like the cotton potholders, which have already come in handy. I only paid £50.49, which feels like an absolute steal for the quality you get. It is comparable to high-end brands but at a fraction of the cost.If you're after a Dutch oven for baking or slow-cooking, this one is definitely worth considering. It is fantastic value for money, built to last, and performs like a dream. I’m thrilled with my purchase and would highly recommend it to both first-time buyers and those looking to upgrade.Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I hope that you found it helpful and that it assists you in your decision-making. I try to be as honest and fair as possible, as those have always been the reviews that helped me the most.

A heavy cast iron casserole dish/dutch oven lined with enamel. I bought this to use as a dutch oven for sourdough loaves and it works very well as it has a tight fitting lid. It’s a large capacity and will hold a good sized loaf. Heats up fairly quickly and retains the heat. The red colour is attractive, and having used it several times for meat casseroles and on maximum oven heat (250 deg C) for bread, it has remained stain free inside and out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good value for money and does the job

I have never owned staub or le creuset and I probably won't ever buy one... With my limited culinary skills, I don't think those are worthy kitchen investments. But now I've started making sourdough and have been really enjoying it. Where I live now has a shitty oven and my sourdough could never turn out to be what I expected. I decided to buy a casserole but didn't want to break my bank. Went on Bolo, read through the reviews and decided to give this one a go. Three sourdough bread later, I am happy to say that this is worth the money I paid. Definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a budget friendly but quality casserole. It looks pretty as well. I haven't yet tried stew or soup but have some recipes in mind. Hopefully it will not disappoint me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nicely finished, super heavy

Very well finished, nice bright colour that hasn't faded a bit despite multiple uses. It's very thick and heavy (which is good), I mainly use it to bake bread, easy to clean with just a wet cloth. It also came with oven mitts and a silicone pad to rest it on. Great value for money.

For the price (and compared to other brands) you can't really go wrong. Works really well. Not 5 stars as found the lid doesn't quite have as tight a fit as I would expect

This is an amazing dish. It is very heavy duty and dare I say, even better than my le crueset at a fraction of the cost!! Love the mini oven glove for the lid and the recipe book that comes with it, all unexpected little extras!

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this pink casserole pan

It’s amazing! And much cheaper than the branded type ones! The pink looks better in real life than on fe photos.Have made pasta and casseroles so far 😊

    Pretty, sturdy, and works great!

Beautiful pot! I bought the 4.5 qt in a turquoise color so it would match other décor in my kitchen (I plan to leave it out). It is honestly larger than I need for the two of us, but will come in handy for when we have family or guests. The 4.5 would be perfect for 4-6 people. It arrived well-wrapped in sturdy packaging, with no damage. Also included was a little cookbook, small pot holders that wrap the handles, a sponge, care instructions, & silicone hot plate (nice touch). I have now cooked soup/stews with it three or four times. After allowing it time to heat properly with oil in the bottom, it held heat well and performed great. It has a nice wide bottom for more contact with the diced veggies while they are softening. It also cleaned up very nicely. I used a pliable plastic pot scraper to gently remove the stuck-on bits, let it sit wet for a just few minutes, then cleaned it with a sponge. Not hard or time consuming at all. It is of course heavy, which was new for me, but turns out I like that. Cooking in it is fun and feels somehow elevated.
