5.0 out of 5 stars they good i would reccomend
I bought these to replace my old (and really bad sounding) JLABS headphones. These are really really nice overall, the features work very well and are super useful so far, they look nice, and they sound good.Comfort - No issues here, they fit my ears and they don't budge at all which is exactly what i need. Something sturdy. Don't mind that i can really feel them in my ear, their not so unbearable that it's an issue and i'd rather that than constantly being scared that they'll fall out. Although after wearing they can be a bit fatiguing after a while due to the foam tips.Features - The ANC on these is lovely. It doesn't block out literally every single noise, like you can hear some noises if their close/really loud, but most noises are blocked out and it's nice to have silence. I've not used earbuds w ANC before so these may have very good ANC comparitively to other earbuds or even full headphones, but i wouldn't know at all. The Ambient noise mode is very nice as a feature. Never thought i would use it as much as i actually do. It definetly does sound like your hearing your surroundings from a microphone (if that makes sense), but it's good enough and it works. Very nice for when i'm in a conversation or need to be able to hear my surroundings 4 any reason, let's me do all that and listen to music without disturbing anyone by playing music on a speaker. One thing i will say is that i've noticed so far that the headphones sort of muck up if i'm trying to put them on in noisy conditions. If there's a lot of wind or loud noise then when i go to put them on something will happen and one earbud will have ANC while the other wont and they won't play music. Bit annoying but not been a huge issue as yet and it's very inconsistent in doing this.Overall physical quality - Yeah they look nice. Their not massive in my ear their fairly low profile but still noticable, i've got the white ones here and honestly they look lovely and premium. They feel very premuim as well and the case is quite small so it's not a huge issueSOUND - OKE so there is some stuff to be sound about the quality of sound. Like i said i used to use some cheap JLABS earbuds for my day to day music listening while out, and by comparisson to those these clear the park in terms of sound. There's a lot more clarity of sound, things sound less clear and distinct than they do smooth and clear (if that makes any sense at all). But i do have a pair of KZ ZS10 pro IEM's and a pair of SHP 9500's to compare these to as well. These things are pretty expensive to be quite frank. And for the like £250 smackaroons you pay it's clear that it was not all focused on sound. Compared to my £50 KZ's, the sound is muddy, unclear, and lacking warmth. But that's compared to the nicest sounding headphones i have. On an objective scale they sound somewhere in between muddy and smooth. They come with too much bass right out the box but what is very nice is that you can change the sound profile in the app, so turning down the bass and turning up the highs just a little bit helps some of the issues. Objectively the sound is definetly good, but £250 good? Yeah nah jog on. But a good portion of that money is going towards the features as well and those features also take up a lot of the tech in the earbuds i'm assuming so getting the sound and all just as up to par as the features, maybe too much of an ask (don't think it should be tho make em sound better for the love of god). In summary, above average sounding, but definetly missing some sparkle to the sound here. Not a £250 sound expirience.BUT, taking into account everything, yeah i suppose £250 might not be the worst maybe. Most people probably wont notice so much about the sound anyway i've just got some solid refference points so for yer average Sally James or Joe these are going to sound pretty sweet. The features work great and they stay in your ears, although a bit noticable at times. Are they worth it? Who in feck knows really if you have the money and you want the best you can get and this meets your criteria go for it but if you care about sound? nah. If you prefer less bass? nah. Other than that their very solid and i'd generally reccomend them.Yippie headphone gud now bugger off >:(
5.0 out of 5 stars An incremental improvement over the previous model
I bought this as a replacement for the WF-1000XM4 which destroyed themselves due to a well know bad firmware update. I also purchased the latest flagship models from bose, sennheiser and jabra too, of all of those great earbuds I reached for the sony WF-1000XM5 more often than any other, the reasons, battery life is good enough, sound quality is probably about as good as bluetooth earbuds get, noise cancelling and passthrough both work well enough, they are small in the ears and pocket and I find the foam tips really comfortable and secure. The jabra and bose got returned quite quickly, the former had an unpleasantly hissy sound signature and the bose connection to android devices/app was unreliable.I do have a dirty little secret though, I also kept the sennheiser momentum true wireless 4, I couldn't resist, they also sound great, have good battery, good noise cancelling, very secure in the ears, but I find them slighly more uncomfortable than the sony, but I do like the slightly different sound signature, its not better than the sony its just tonally slightly different. On multiple android devices the sony and sennheiser apps work well. The sony is slightly more reliable than sennheiser on the terribly unreliable bluetooth of a macbook pro. The only critism I have of this sony unit is that its pretty hard to put the buds in the ears or adjust the fit without activating the touch sensors, they are slippery to hold too having a glossy finish.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but expensive
I bought these a few months ago to replace my failing Melomania 1+ buds, which are now sadly discontinued so I couldn't replace them like for like. Did a bit of Googling and settled on these. I probably wouldn't have spent so much all in one go on a set of buds, but spread over five months, I felt I could justify it, or return them if I thought they weren't worth the money. The sound quality really is amazing. I thought the Melomania were pretty good, but these blow them away. Crisp trebles, excellent mid-range and warm bass. Not a hint of distortion unless you push the EQ up to really silly levels. I've used these a lot over the past few months and everything I've listened to sounds great. They fit nicely in my ears and feel well put together. No pairing issues so far (the Melomania would sometimes take two or three attempts) and the range is pretty good. We have a fairly large open-plan office at work and I can walk all around this without needing to carry my phone. I've yet to have the signal drop once. I also like that if you're only using one bud (I often do this at work so I can hear the phone/boss shouting at me}, it automatically goes into mono mode. The case is a little larger than the Melomania one, but it looks neat and is well made. I've had no charging issues at all - the Melomania buds sometimes wouldn't charge unless they were seated exactly in the case, wheras these snap magnetically into place - and the case seems to hold plenty of charge. I've not come near to the case running out of juice yet.I wasn't expecting great things from the noise cancelling, but it's okay. Not great, but okay. When wearing these in a noisy environment, there's noticeably less background noise than with the Melomania. The supplied software isn't great. Seems to have a lot of 'features' that I'll never use but it's a necessary evil, I suppose. Not that I've ever had cause to dive into it beyond the initial setup. Everything just works and if I need to adjust the EQ, I do so via the Poweramp player on my phone. I also have Sony headphones for home use which uses the same software and it's never once got confused between the two.All in all, very glad I bought these! As for whether they're worth £250, that would probably depend on why you're buying them. If you have a very cheap pair of buds or, like me, you need to replace a half decent set that's broken, then I'd say yes. If you already have a good set, then it's debatable. These will probably sound a bit better, but that's a a lot of money to spend for a relatively small improvement.
Best wireless buds so far...
I lost a pair, and so reordered, which means I feel they are worth the $300 or so. To properly enable the noise-cancelling, I replaced the ear inserts with the AZLA SednaEarfit Crystal Standard 3 Pairs (Size MS/M/ML 3Pr), which worked quite well. I love these things.
