5.0 out of 5 stars Great Vit C source
Arrived promptly.Minimal packaging, but safely and hygienically packaged.Nice professional packaging/label that add to the value of the product.Clear instructions on how to administer/consume for daily dose allowance.Generally value for money here given extract ingredients and potency, would say is the higher end of its kind on the market.Would recomend this product amongst others, as believe it delivers on what it aims to, in less time than others currently online.
5.0 out of 5 stars Versatile powder. We can vary the number & size of doses taken according to need.
This powder form of vitamin C, unlike capsules or tablets, gives infinite flexibility. Although the seller, Osavi, suggests taking 1g once daily, and provides a tiny scoop with which to measure it out, the amount of vitamin C we needs actually varies according to our gender (men may need more) and stress levels. (Stress may come from infection, illness, vigorous exercise, pregnancy, breast-feeding, emotional pressure etc. etc.) Vitamin C is also known to help us absorb iron and collagen.Ideally, vitamin C should be taken in very small doses several times a day. As a water-soluble vitamin, it does not stay long in the body. The NHS recommends not taking more than 1000mg (1000mg = 1g) daily, to avoid gastro-intestinal distress. As always, the NHS prefers that we get all the vitamin C we need from food. However, I am following a Keto/very low carb diet which means that of the 7 food types mentioned as being high in vitamin C, there only 2 that I am allowed to eat - broccoli and Brussels sprouts. All the rest are fruits and potatoes - all off the menu for me. Frankly, I am not likely to consume broccoli or Brussels sprouts every day, or even every week, so I am very glad of my tub of Osavi vitamin C.The price, currently £15.26 for 300g, does seem a little high. On the other hand, getting pure vitamin C without nasties, fillers, capsule shells is precious. Given the small doses needed, the tub is going to last a long time. The Best Before date on my tub is happily far in the future - March 2026.
4.0 out of 5 stars Versatile vitamin C powder for when naturally-occurring sources aren't available
As the body can’t synthesize vitamin C it’s essential to get it from without. Great if one is eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, but many times in our modern lifestyle we may not get optimum amounts on a daily basis so supplementation is a viable solution. Capsules and tablets are the usual methods, but powders often have the advantage of not containing fillers and binders. This is the case here, with this pure vitamin C powder in the form of ascorbic acid, which I believe is a synthetic form of it. There’s arguments as to which is better, natural or synthetic, with some authorities believing both are more or less identical. Personally, I’ll always opt for natural sources where possible just to be on the safe side, but I don’t mind alternatives like this when they’re not readily available. Also, there’s no bioflavonoids with the powder, which are sometimes believed to aid absorption. Whether they’re really necessary is again debatable. The powder does have a taste to it, which I discovered on my first use when I mixed it with a cup of coffee (which wasn’t ideal as the tub recommends that it’s mixed with 200 ml of water or other liquid, and preferably after a meal), but I thought I’d try it that way anyway. Even so, it’s best to put up with a little bit of taste rather than miss out on the benefits supplements and powders provide. For me it isn’t much of an issue as I hardly ever eat sweets, cakes, biscuits, puddings or anything like that so find I can easily tolerate less sweet tastes.Powders are always versatile, which is why I generally prefer them, and this tub has plenty of content. Although advertised as a 30-day supply, because I tend to mix it into fruit and vegetable drinks where vitamin C (and bioflavonoids) tend to be naturally present, I don’t use the full scoop full. Instead, I just add a little here and there as an extra assurance if my drinks are a little deficit of naturally occurring vitamin C items (which tends to be the case in the winter). The price is reasonable for the product, and 1000 mg servings are a respectable amount for this vitamin. Manufactured in the EU.
5.0 out of 5 stars Prefer it to the capsules
I go through phases of taking vitamin C, and it is often my go-to solution whenever it is cold/flu season. Until now I have always used it in capsules form, usually 1000mg, but as I take a lot of supplements in general I figured it would be good to try out a powder for several reasons. Firstly, it means less capsules in my daily supplements box (it is often full to bursting). Secondly, I figured I could put it in the water that I drink with my supplements. Lastly, one would assume it is more bioavailable as a powder than as a supplement.I was pleasantly surprised by the Osavi Vitamin C Powder as when I got it I didn't realise it had three hundred servings in it. The container is only medium sized, fits on the shelf nicely, so I was just imagining maybe ninety or a hundred. On opening it I found the little plastic scoop and that's when I read the label and realised only a single scoop is needed in a glass of water, and as it is only a very tiny scoop it quickly became clear that this is actually very good value for money.I was a little worried about how it would taste, but was pleasantly surprised. The powder itself desolves pretty quickly. Not instantly, but within a few monites. I suppose you could just stir it and drink it, but I found that by the time I'd got my other supplements ready the vitamin C was pretty much dissolved and ready to drink. The taste is slightly fruity and not unpleasant at all. It isn't like one of those effervescent vitamin C tablets with a serious fruity flavour, it is much more subtle. The only criticism I'd have is of the size of print on the label. Not everyone has 20-20 vision, and even with my glasses on I still struggled to read it. It is a shame as that is the only thing that lets the product down, but these manufacturers and resellers should realise that a lot of people who take supplements are over 50 and don't have 20-20 vision. But, when everything else about the product is great I didn't want to deduct a star just for that.
