Excellent customer service, excellent product that meets my every need. Quality of audio / video transcoding is excellent.
2.0 out of 5 stars Headphone output and Format
The device is excellent at capturing VHS etc. The picture quality obtained is excellent when played through a monitor/TV.However the device is not good if required to use as a portable media player.1. The device can only be powered from a computer USB or a supplied mains adaptor, not batteries or charger.2. The onboard sound is so quiet it is almost silent.3. However, if you plug a headphone into the aux-out socket the sound is FAR too loud with no means of adjusting it either from the device itself or the supplied hand set.4. When viewed on the device itself the picture is always in 16:9 format with no means of changing it to 4:3 (which is the format of VHS videos) so everything is stretched so as to make the picture distorted. When played on a monitor/TV everything is as it should be.If Cloner Alliance could address these points the device would be a world beater and deserve the title of a 'stand alone' device..
1.0 out of 5 stars worse than the first one.
I contacted the seller about the terrible sound from internal speaker on the previous unit that i had purchased, their answer, was to purchase another one.Foolishly, i did.On the second unit the input audio was so low,you could not hear it, i tried different usb drives to record onto and also used different leads to connect to this unit. Made no difference, the recordings were so low i had to turn my pc speakers up to 100% just hear a tiny sound coming from the recording.Needless to say i did not bother the company again and merely returned it to Bolo for a full refund. I cannot recommend these devices or this company.
It works
This little unit is tasked with digitizing all of my 8mm home movies from over 20 years. So far about half done over a TB of material and it still works well. Format your SD or USB in exfat and you can have files longer that 4gb without breaks, but if you can't free software from Cloner Alliance will stitch them together for you seamlessly. Software is also included to trim your files. Software is free from their website. So far so good. And it keeps the original aspect ration, which is a must. The files are upscaled to 720 and as I said the final product very nice.
Super gemacht !!
Funktioniert einwandfrei :-)
Compact and Convenient Analog Converter
The Unit is nice and compact with a built in screen, all the buttons are on top and easy to access with the plugs all on the sides allowing for easy setup and stream line operation. This unit will take in Composite Video and S-Video plus of course stereo audio, along with the Line In/Out and Mic In ports for Audio capturing only. I was thrilled with the S-Video since a lot of devices don't have S-Video inputs and all of my old Analog equipment has S-Video outputs. S-Video is MUCH better than composite since S-Video is the Processing and Transfer of the Gamma Image and Chroma Image separately giving you better contrast. The Upscale on the HDMI output is nice allowing you to connect this unit to a TV and watch in real time while capturing the video from your analog device. HOWEVER, the HDMI output and the built-in screen do NOT function at the same time. You can either have a HDMI TV connected or you are using the built-in screen, NOT Both at the same time. This unit has a built-in Menu for setup, basic settings like time/date, Resolution Bit rate, Input Volumes HDMI output Volume, etc.The Resolution setting is a slight issue since if you want to encode your Analog video in "HD," the only resolution is 1920x1080 which is problematic since that is a 16x9 format and I want to maintain my 4x3 format of my Analog video. Really this unit should have the "HD" resolution be 1440x1080 to keep my 4x3 format. So your choices are 640x480, "Auto" and 1920x1080. I found that "Auto" encodes the video at 720x480.Issues:The Unit has a decent Time-Base Corrector however is the video becomes too unstable (very common on VHS), this unit's software can lockup and then you have to start your video all over again. The way you know that the unit has faulted is the Record Time stops counting.Another issue is that the unit will not create an image when the incoming signal is too unstable, meaning when you are Fast-Forwarding on a VHS tape, you can't see where you are on the tape until you play the tape at normal speed.Lastly, this unit will record on many different formats, however make sure you format the Thumb drive or SD card in a computer before you record video. This unit does NOT have a built-in Format function. If the format is corrupted, the Unit will act like it's recording, but then you'll find that the video files are corrupt and you'll have NO usable video. I suggest format all Thumb drives and SD cards in windows NTFS format for better stability when using this unit.Overall, this unit is a very decent and convenient encoder, great for on the spot family viewing parties of old home movies.
Perfect and easy
Easy to use, work perfect, recommend to all. One thing you mast have in mind, if you have white noise between two video clips on one tape, Cloner stop to record on white noise.
