5.0 out of 5 stars Best sounding earbuds I tried so far
I used Sony WF-1000XM3, Sony WF-1000XM4, and Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3. When the batteries of the latter went bad, I started looking for a replacement. I initially got the Technics AZ80, but I found that the sound quality was below that of my Sennheisers. Also controlling volume was a bit awkward. I did like the smaller case, and the fit was quite good as well. But sound quality comes first for me, and for that reason I returned them. Then I purchased both the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4, and these ones. The Sennheisers sounded like I was used to with the MTW3s, but these are quite simply on another level. After AAT tuning, it is safe to say that they are like no earbuds I have tried before. The organisation, instrument separation, delicacy... is just way better. Additionally, the fit is better than the Sennheisers as well. The only downside is that they are a bit large, and so is the case. But for me, that is totally worth it. There may be better sounding buds like the Bowers & Wilkins Pi8, but they are more expensive as well, and the fit is probably not as good.Noise cancellation performance is good as well. Maybe not best in class, but I think it is better than my MTW3s, so I'm good with that. Transparency mode works fine too. Again, maybe not the best, but these are earbuds; as far as I'm concerned, that means they are made to enjoy music. And they let me do that incredibly well. I haven't tested call quality, but again, that's like... a 2% use case, maybe. the other 98% is about listening to music.
5.0 out of 5 stars Top tier
Dennon does it again, these are fantastic quality headphones. The build quality feels very good the fit is really comfortable and the sound quality is excellent.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great sound with some quirks
Sound is amazing after calibration, the difference with default is day and night. I must note that it's interesting how default profile sounds similar to cheap earbuds.ANC is good, it was adequate in my experience with London daily commute including tube, train and crowded street walk. Transparency is better than I expected, not so natural but makes big difference. Wind reduction was also fine in my biking sessions. Not much customisation with these, and sound quality is affected with toggling ANC.I didn't expect much for call quality after reading reviews, not the best, but didn't have any issues in my calls, similar to other BT earbuds I used before.I used the earbuds with my iPhone, snapdragon Android phone, Macbook and Windows laptop. The sound was a bit better with Aptx adaptive, couldn't use Aptx lossless, not sure if it was my phone or the buds. Connection was good overall. I had a couple random issues, where sound switched to phone speakers. Wasn't a good experience as everybody turned to me in the tube. And never had such an issue with any earbuds or headphone that I used before. Other than that satisfied overall.Battery life is not on par with similar priced buds, Had to charge the case after 2 days of average usage with ANC turned on.App is okay, had some issues with offline login, weird that you have to provide age and gender.Fit is good, comfortable when you ignore how big these earbuds. I had to try different wing and pad combinations to get the ideal fit. I didn't feel any pain or uncomfortable after couple hours of usage. With the discount, these are a good option if you are in the market.
5.0 out of 5 stars My New Favourites
I took the chance when these were on sale and ........WOW!!!! They are amazing. They set a new standard for me. I own a few premium buds, but these are not only my favourite, sound not unlike listening to over heads. Did have some teething problems, especially with the left ear cutting out, but I checked the troubleshooting guide and reset them and now they seem fine. Will update in a few months. The noise cancelling isn't the best but it does work, and unlike the MTW4 it doesn't have wind noise when listening to music on the go.The sound signature is just sublime. After I used the personalised setup I was amazed. I even use these in bed and wake up with them still in my ears and with some juice still left.I'll say again, these are amazing and definitely worth the money.
5.0 out of 5 stars Wow. These are amazing.
These are as good (if not better) than Bose, Technics, Sony etc. Plenty of wings and tips, obviously takes a bit of time to get precisely the right fit but once you do they are comfortable and very secure. The sound is amazing. The controls are easy to set up and great to use. The ANC is the best (once you get the right fit). The icing on the cake is the personal profiles you can set up via the app. Don’t ask me how it does it but the resulting soundscape beats all the opposition. Buy these, you will not regret it.
3.0 out of 5 stars Could be better
The bass is good but the treble is poor and leaves vocal songs sounding flat. The spatial sound makes some difference but increases more in the bass. However increasing the spatial sound made it uncomfortable and caused ear fatigue due to the increased vibration of the bass. The app was ok but very basic with no sound presets and adjusting the sound manually made little difference. The massimo AAT was rubbish and more of a gimmic. For me it made the music less dynamic and more muddy. I compared this against the Technics AZ80 and also the sennhiser mtw4 and 3 which I used to own. In the end I sent them back and kept the Technics AZ80 which cost me more money as they didn't give me ear fatigue and they were massively more brighter and dynamic than the Denon. However Denon could have made it better by using Ldac which is what most samsung phones use instead of APT lossless which is not used by any samsung phones yet. But even using Ldac I don't believe it would have improved the poor treble of the Denon. Hopefully there next version will be more brighter with better bluetooth codecs for hi res streaming. Also when not playing any music the Denon did play a white noise which is not good for a premium ear bud and was extremely uncomfortable to use.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great sound
Good quality
This is what music should sound like 😍
Just wanna share this lil tidbit for my audiophile compatriots here. Last week, Prime Day came along & I happened to spot a Denon PerL Pro on prime deal. Just so happens that I've been considering a good set of buds for late night listening after ahem..a coupla hits of the happy herb😅. Been eyeing either the Technics AZ80 & a Oneplus buds pro 3 til this DPP deal came up.Took a gamble & ordered the Denons. Came in yesterday & after abit of fiddling incl doing the personalized Masimo AAT, all I can say is I'm mouth wide opened speechless. The music is incredible. The transparency, the resolution, the separation, the airiness, the soundstage & last but not least, the bass, did I say bass, I meant BASS. I'm not a bass head by any means so what I'm talking about isn't just quantity but quality. You wanna know what an articulate kick drum sounds & feels like, this Denon delivers.Due to the current trend's convenience factor, I've since shed myself of all my headgear ala full cans + amp + dac combos & have primarily stuck to BT. I've always accepted that BT is a very distant relative of the real McCoy but man, these Denons come close. Scary close. If someone had a knife on me & made me say it, I'll confess that these Denons sounds equivalent to a Senn HD600/650 powered by a good headamp. Perhaps even exceed them in a couple areas. I know I sound like a simp but trust me, I wish Denon is paying me & I was just as skeptical before I tried these DPPs.Let me also state that I'm fairly lucky in that I had minimal fit & comfort issues tho I do fiddle with the left bud more than I'd like. And the Masimo AAT works for me. And I'm not getting this Denon for calls or other such mundane stuff. O & these thangs makes me feel like part of an ancient tribe that has a custom of enlarging earlobes with big round rings. Yes these buds are that big & ̶o̶b̶n̶o̶x̶i̶o̶u̶s̶ unique 🤣Anyhoos to make a long story short, get these Denons if it ever comes on a deal again (A'zon BFThinking Face?) with its no brainer returns. If you value SQ & music, you'll want to give these a try. Nuff said
Magic in Your Ears
Despite owning numerous high-end wired IEMs and headsets ranging from $500 to $4,000 and owning Sennheiser Momentum TW2 and Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EQ and EX, I rarely write reviews about earbuds. but I felt DPPs granted an exception. After losing my beloved pair of Beoplay EX recently, I considered replacing them but then heard about the Denon Perl Pros on Reddit.Initially, I was hesitant to buy them despite the glowing reviews. I had two main reservations: 1. The earbuds were reported to be quite large (with comparisons to Princess Leia’s hairstyle). 2. Some users mentioned a hissing sound from the left or right earbud.I received the Denon Perl Pros today and all I can say is WOW! I don’t usually make such enthusiastic exclamations, as acoustics and sound quality are very personal, and high cost doesn’t always guarantee satisfaction. However, the Denon Perl Pros are a true exception—I am thoroughly impressed.Firstly, the comfort level isn’t as bad as some reviewers claimed. They fit very comfortably in my ears. Compared to my other more expensive earbuds and IEMs, they provide the best seal and healthy suction. Now, let’s talk about the sound quality. In short, these are among the best-sounding earbuds I’ve ever heard. They can easily compete with my go-to pair, the $1,400 Campfire Andromeda. The soundstage is expansive and immersive, making you feel surrounded by instruments. Remarkably, despite only having a single 10mm dynamic driver, the DPPs offer a near-holographic effect with their V-shaped sound signature. The instrument separation is excellent, with plenty of air between different instruments. Vocals are forward and don’t bleed into the instruments or background tracks. The more detail you seek, the more you find—even with Spotify’s 320kbps tracks, which are not lossless. The volume can go quite high-I strongly recommend enabling high gain mode then lowering volume to find the right spot. High gain mode compensates for frequencies lost when listening with lower volumes, in situations with less power to the driver. How do they compete with $1,000+ earbuds on the market? The secret lies in their superior implementation of Massimo Adaptive Technology. This technology measures your ear canal’s response to different frequencies and compensates where needed. Initially, I worried this was a gimmick, but it’s a game changer. DPPs allow you to have three different profiles. To squeeze out the most out of these, I suggest you doing the calibration three times and save them to each profile. Then do some A-B testing between profiles to find the best for your ears. I always use EQ to finetune the sound but after the calibration, I disabled all previous EQ I had. I don’t think I need to change EQ anymore. This sounds like EQ specific to your ears.Frankly, I don’t understand why the DPPs haven’t garnered the same attention as other, more expensive earbuds. These are fantastic, comparable to the thrill I felt when first listening to the Audeze LCD3, but in a wireless earbud form. Yet, I haven’t seen many YouTube reviews about them.Do they have any cons? The implementation of the spatial audio isn’t very good but the more I give it a try the more I like it. I still prefer it disabled. Immersion mode adds more oomph in lower and lower mid frequencies. Depending on the genre you listen to, it can be good or bad. There’s some recess in 10K+ bands, so you might want to tweak a little to open up more in top range. At this point, I’m nitpicking to find any flaws, but DPPs are just that good.In conclusion, I’m incredibly happy with my new DPPs. These can truly alter your perception of music especially if you’re not already used to high end iems.Since there aren’t many reviews or impressions about these earbuds, I wanted to share my personal experience.
