5.0 out of 5 stars Good deal
Bought the maxed out configuration and have to say it is a very solid product. It is fairly compact and does not get too loud. The performance provided is great and you can definitely do any CPU intensive work on this very easily. Its easy but a bit messy to open as you will need to remove some rubber pads to access the screws. Otherwise, it was very easy to add a second NVME SSD. Connectivity is also great as you have access to 2 USB-4 ports and plenty of other ports. I recommend this product.
5.0 out of 5 stars Fast, great business and gaming from a tiny PC
Minisforun UM790 Pro is an amazing little tiny PCGreat performance packed per every cubic inch of this thingPaired with DDR5 RAM and NVME disk gives blistering performance for a tiny form factorOnly small wish was a slightly bigger form factor, to allow better cooling, to allow a higher ceiling for performanceOther than that, great at normal business use and gaming
5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing! BUY IT !!
Great value with 21% off so I had no hesitation. Just what I was looking for - fast, quiet, high spec. Replaced an enthusiast’s aging big box i7 - and I have absolutely no regrets. Soooo compact I don’t know my desk. With thunderbolt ports who needs massive internal HDDs - my M.2s are now in enclosures. Onboard graphics are fine for a non-gamer - drives my 4k, 32” screen impeccably.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good value for money - mostly perfect - but ...
So, I awas very pleasently surprised by it's performance. Is quiet, fast, plenty of ram and smooth! Very smakk box, smaller than I anticipated.But... the biggest downside is my monitos, refresh only at 50Hz - on 4K. (previously on my Gefore 1080Ti 100Hz 2 monitors @ 4K. Updated drivers and cables... can only get it at 60Hz on 1080p :/ Which is a big, big bummer. For me as I am staring at the screens for 10+ hours a day... now get fatigued much sooner :/ very noticable the difference. Would gladly sacrifice some more money and a bigger box for a dedicated card that would support 100hz refresh... Hopefully can find an enclosure and repurpose my graphic card and use it as external oneThe other thing I noticed... the blootuth is not the best quality nor range... visibly deteriorated the listening on my sony headphones over 4m (and a wall)... on the other one or on a laptop I have no issues with 7+m and couple of walls.
1.0 out of 5 stars Update: Broke after 5 weeks. Came with branded memory and storage! And it's fast.
Update after five weeks of light use, it broke. No video output on either HDMI port.USBs still seem to be powered and the fan spins, but no video signal at all.Forget everything written below and avoid. Gutted.Bought this expecting to come with generic, slow memory and ssd. Was really surprised to find it came with 2 Crucial memory sticks rated at the full 5600MHz!! The SSD was a Kingston and, although Gen 4, was rated at c. 3000mbit/s. The machine came with drivers, but not the AMD suite. So, a quick swap onto a Samsung 970 PRO stick and a cheaky rebuild later (taking care to extract the Windows key - as it was a full Windows 11 Pro key - another great surprise as I was expecting to have to upgrade that for Remote Desktop), and an expansion of the GPU RAM allocation from the default 2Gb to 4, and it's now running brilliantly. It's sitting under the TV in the living room playing directly to that at highly acceptable (to this casual gamer) frame rates at 1080p. To overcome the AMD GPU, I've stuck Sunshine on it and am running Moonlight on various TVs in various bedrooms around the house - and that's working perfectly. Which is exactly what this was bought for. Also, as it turns out that the Ryzen 9 8/16 core is slightly faster than an M2 - it is now going to be my Handbrake encoder as it's so much faster than the M1 Macbook Air I'd been using for that. The GPU will max out in all games the but CPU barely shows any load.In future, I'll increase the chipset TDP up to the full 65W and, once I've exploited that full, all the CPU overhead suggests an eGPU in a couple of years may well be the next step.Anyway, great purchase!
5.0 out of 5 stars So good I bought another one!
I thought it was time I replaced two custom built tower PCs. They were so highly specified originally that they still worked fine after 12 years but I thought I should not push my luck. I wnet down the Mini PC route 4 years ago when I bought a little intel i3 KODLIX mini PC for web streaming to a wide screen tv. I don't play computer games but I do a lot of cpu-intensive HD and UHD video re-encoding. This highly-specified Ryzen 9 mini PC looked suitable so I cautiously bought one "on-spec" two months ago. Delivery by Bolo was next day, though I am not a Prime member. I found it straightforward to add extra 2.5" internal SSDs, aided by the helpful video provided by the seller. This quasi paperback-sized Mini PC feels heavy and looks solidly built. The plastic case is clearly strong and unobtrusive; it is quite irrelevant to me how much carbon fibre it actually contains. The vertically mounted computer is almost silent, except when the fan racks up for cpu-intensive processing, when it throws out a surprising amount of hot air. This indicates that the relatively "state of the art" liquid metal cooling does facilitate excellent heat transfer. Video processing is as fast as one would expect of an 8 core Ryzen 9 chip. The integral graphic processor in the chip works fine with my single 4K monitor and external usb3 blue ray disc drive / recorder. This is a fast machine. What is not fast is the tedious business of reloading software onto windows, a problem of Microsoft not the machine.Value for money, particularly if you get a good voucher deal, is excellent. I have no experience using the machine for gaming nor have I needed to contact the seller, so I have not rated those items.Perhaps the best recommendation is that I was sufficiently impressed with the machine that a few weeks later I bought one for my wife. I would have preferred to buy her a more "goof-proof" MiniMac with M1 chip, not that much more expensive. However she is addicted to a particular legacy piece of Microsoft software which, to my surprise, still runs fine on Windows 11.I rarely write Bolo reviews and it is early days yet, but two happy users of the Minisforum Ryzen 5900HX MiniPC here!
