4.0 out of 5 stars Pearl barley
Great bag of pearl barley grains, quick to cook, perfect for a substitute (or to create a mix with) porridge. Tastes delicious.
5.0 out of 5 stars Tasty pearl barley
Bit of a staple grocery product in our house. Perfect winter warmer addition to stews, casseroles etc. Lovely quality and adds texture and substance. Comes in a quality resealable bag.
1.0 out of 5 stars Can't return unopened. Daughter had reaction to gluten.
Why can't I return unopened like any other shop? My daughter had an eczema outbreak after eating gluten so I want to return for a refund.
5.0 out of 5 stars Top quality. Nice full size and no dust. Taste great too.
Barley is one of my favourite soup ingredients, as a kid I always asked for Scotch Broth because it has barley in it. This barley is really good quality, it cooks perfectly and has a wonderful texture, chewy without being hard. It cooks up to be a good size and is a very versatile ingredient in both meat and veggie dishes. Pearly barley is very nutritious and filling as well as being delicious.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good quality grain but 500g not 1kg
I make a lot of soup and I like to add different textures so I ordered this pearl barley. There is a bit of conflicting information on the listing but you get 500g of barley as per the item photo and not 1kg as per the item title. There are no cooking instructions on the packet but as with most pulses and grains it’s just a case of rinsing it and boiling it. You can boil it on its own (it takes about 30 minutes to cook) or add it to soups or stews while they are cooking.I really like it in my soup and I’m going to add some to my next slow cooked stew too. I’m happy with the quality but have knocked a star off for the conflicting weight information.
5.0 out of 5 stars Quality ingredient
My daughter has a few food items she really loves and oddly enough Pearl barley is one of them which is great as it’s a really wholesome addition to soups and stews etc. This is a decent size pack which is designed to be easily and conveniently resealed. The Pearl barley itself it a decent size, doesn’t look dusty or grainy and is just a simple but quality ingredient. I tried it out in her favourite stew (not a great picture but gives you some idea of how nicely it cooks) and she really enjoyed it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant for the Price - Recommended
Very decent quality pearl barley grains which cook perfectly and open up really nicely - great for veggie mixes and as a thickener to beef up hotpots and stews and whatnot. Good price for a KG in a decent re-seal-able bag and will get again so recommend fully as no issues and very happy with it.
