4.0 out of 5 stars Turning The Tables On The Grand Kids
Music these days is synonymous with digital sources. But vinyl is making a comeback and I had the urge to try out my record collection again. My old 60s turntable was not up to it so I started investigating what was available. No need for expensive high end machines and after much reading I settled on this Majority equipment. Although I did not need the built in amp and speakers, it is a nice to have. But Bluetooth out to my amp was the most important feature. It also has Bluetooth in so I can hook in my phone and it has USB recording which might prove useful. The turntable arrived the day after ordering and I was anxious to try it out. At first it would not connect so, lesson number one READ the instructions - I had assumed that one sets the selector to BT (Bluetooth) but no you set it to PH (phono) and then press the BT button on the side. Soon the amp connected and I was ready to try my first disk. Back in the Day, Hi Fi shops invariably used Burt Kaemfurt’s A Swinging Safari album to show off their equipment, so that’s what I selected. But nothing came out, I was puzzled. I had taken the cover off the cartridge but when I examined it, there was no stylus. Looking at the cover again, I realised that I had inadvertently also taken out the stylus. It took me a while to work out how to reinsert it NOTE TO MANUFACTURER in the instructions you should really explain how to remove the cover rather than simply say take it off - it is not obvious. Anyway, after a few abortive attempts, I suddenly heard a satisfying click and rightly assumed that it was in. Positioning the tone arm over the record, I lowered it onto the record. This is beautifully engineered but I had forgotten to turn down the volume following my previous attempts and A Swinging Safari came blasting out. Once I had scrambled across the room to grab the amp’s remote control and turned down the volume, I could sit back and enjoy the music. Quality is excellent via Bluetooth with virtually no rumble and while it is likely that connecting via a couple of phono plugs will give me a better sound (there is a pre-amp built into the turntable), my amp is rather inaccessible and difficult to pull out. This connection suits me fine.Just to make this review a little more complete, I turned off the turntable and then on again to try the built-in amp and speakers. OK not as good as my full stereo system but you know what, it is really quite good and there is bags of undistorted volume.OK, back on the full system and reconnecting to BT took a few attempts but now enjoying the Sergio Mendes and Brazil 66 and Mas Que Nada. OK I could get all this on Spotify but somehow, picking up an album and reading the sleeve notes brings back great memories. For £89, the Majority Turntable is a seriously good bit of kit. Just be careful removing the stylus cover and enjoy your music, I can only imagine how good new disks are on this system. Looking forward to showing the Grandkids that there was life before Spotify and Bolo Music.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Made of good quality, great stylus
5.0 out of 5 stars Very easy to set up.
I received my turntable today and within ten minutes I was listening to a fantastic sound. I put on my David Gilmour On An Island vinyl on and it sounded out of this world. I am playing through my surround system. But it sounds great on its own speakers as well. A great piece of equipment for under a Hundred pounds and sounds like something priced at three to four Hundred pounds. A great bye I highly recommend this if you want to buy for yourself or a present. It also has a USB recording set up to turn the vinyl sounds into MP3. I love it very happy.
1.0 out of 5 stars Arm tracking at nearly 10grms
Being a hifi buff and reading the good reviews for this product I thought I would buy one to review, what a surprise I got when I checked the tracking weight 9.8grms over 6 grms more then is recommended for the audio technica 3600 cartridge, wow and flutter is bad and sound is not good, please don't buy this unit if you don't want to damage your vinyl as records where made to take upto 9grms and even the cheap ceramic cartridges only track at upto 5grms of which is still safe on your records but this unit will definitely damage your vinyl.Update 10th SeptI thought I would have a try at purchasing another one as this is the only one on Bolo with a MM cartridge this one turned up tracking at a reasonable force so I was happy with that, however, the cartridge head was leaning at the wrong angle and to add insult to injury the cueing lever was not allowing the arm to lower on the record, the autostop was not working and the turntable was turning 6% slow, yet another return to Bolo who have been so good about this problem.I have contacted Majority about this, and they say they do not get any complaints from this turntable.update ordered a second unit and upon testing this was just as bad 9.2grms tracking weight had to return again to Bolo.Update 25th Sept.Ordered a 4th one and finally after testing for a week all is good, tracking is 3.5grms correct for cartridge, speed is fine taken a week to settle down of which is normal for most motors on any turntable, sound is very good for price and much better than all the ceramic versions, if only I did not have to have 3 faulty ones, I would dearly give this five stars and hope it was just a faulty batch, so if you get one that works correctly you are on to a winner with this unit.
5.0 out of 5 stars Looks good - plays good.
Well finished and looks the part. Turntable and stylus perform well and the enclosed speakers give a reasonable sound, but obviously lacking in bass. Bluetooth connection to BOSS soundbar provides a richer room filling experience.
5.0 out of 5 stars Quality
I've had this player for few months now and play it through my hifi set up it is of a very good quality sound,The built in speakers are adequate but lacking base on their own for the money itis very good value and reliable I highly recommend it
