2024 First Place Bookfest Award Winner for Fiction with Folklore!

Maren Phillips has been lonely her whole life, having been raised in a house of chaos and neglect. After a near-fatal accident, and desperate for a sense of belonging, she decides to move to the only place she has ever been happy, her late uncle’s cottage in the Scottish Highlands which she has inherited. There she meets the handsome Highland farmer next door and discovers a secret relative who has been locked away for decades for practicing the “old ways” of the Highlands…ways that used to be called witchcraft. She also discovers a hidden stone circle and a land full of magic. Slowly she builds a life full of love, found family, and healing. But when her fears of getting hurt, coupled with a devastating fire, threaten everything she’s built, will she stay and fight, or do what she does best and run? Highland Magic is the first book in what will be a Highland Magic series.

I highly recommend this book. The magic reaches out to enfold you. I’ve downloaded the second book by this author. I’m sorry she has only written two. Please write some more Heather.

A lovely heart-warming story of connection and belonging. Maren comes to Scotland to move into the cottage her Uncle has left her. She spent her summers there when she was younger. What started as a new adventure blossoms into something much more. I really enjoyed it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant

I previously read the herbalist, and loved it so much decided to read this book. I am so pleased I did. There is a similar theme running through both books of a woman finding herself becoming strong. Even with this theme, both stories are completely different from each other, each telling its own tale, I must admit I am a fan of the meaning of the books, the theme of both. I am looking forward to reading more.

5.0 out of 5 stars A genuine ‘feel good’ book

I generally read mysteries or crime books, psychological thrillers etc., but it was a real joy to read a positive story, about characters who are good to each other, kind and supportive, the way that we all should be.

Riveting novel

The whimsical and magical meets real life, a fun and easy romantic read that will have you hooked until you finish it. Similar to her other works “ the herbalist” but with a different flare.

Fabulous Story

S.L. · 3 September 2024

This is the story of a woman who discovers how to live with the rhythms of nature in alignment with her own inner heart. It’s an emotional story but uplifting. The character development is excellent. The inner dialogues spoke to my heart. Beautiful story.

Really 3.5 Stars

Comforting story. I feel the book packed more elements into it than were needed and thus nothing was focused on. There is magic, abandonment, horses, equine assisted therapy, romance, cookery, hoteling, family, friendship, etc.

magical

Another magical read. I’m enchanted by these stories. I would love to visit the Horse and Stone B&B. Write on, Heather Morrison-Tapley.
