I always take claims of devices like this with a pinch of salt, but with two very noisy barkers it's always worth a go.To my amazement this thing actually works, to the point they often stop barking just at the sight of me picking the thing up off the side table.Both of dogs are small(both different Jack Russell cross),one in particular is deafening if something triggers him. You can't hear anything when you press the button save a light vibrating noise but clearly the dogs do a and they stop barking immediately. I treat things like this as a last resort as 1. I worry they become used to it so may lose it's effectiveness when you really need it, and 2.(well probably should be 1 really) I don't like to punish them and if this thing hurts their ears they I don't want to use it often.I'm dropping a couple of stars due to the price,(£45.00 at time of review), I think this is quite a bit higher than the competition and I do think overpriced at that.

We’ve tried a few of these types of ultrasonic dog trainers in our time most of which have been pretty useless, but this one’s works rather well. There are a few options you can select to support training for your dog (in our case to use an effective ‘interrupter’ for unwanted behaviour - namely barking at the TV inappropriately). You can use the ‘beep’ option if that’s effective on its own , but we found the silent ultra-sonic option very effective (but the button also vibrates so you know it’s working /been triggered, as obviously it’s beyond our human hearing range frequency). This can also be enhanced by a flashing light which will also provide a visual cue. At some point we hope that the flashing light alone will be enough to get our rather rowdy westie to desist from barking at the telly (and eventually learnnnit to do it all!). So far the unit works very well as an interruptor and she quietens down (for a time). All in all we are impressed with the gizmo, and it also seems solid and well-made. In conclusion: it works so I’m inclined to think it represents good value.

It is the deterrent function of this device which interested me most. As a regular walker I regularly encounter dogs off their leashes, and although most of them are well-behaved it isn’t always the case. Unfortunately I’ve often had unwanted attention from some of these dogs, and although I’ve avoided harm from them so far I do feel it’s only a matter of time before one goes too far.I’ve been carrying this device with me recently with a view to using it in the event that I am bothered by loose or stray dogs. I’m mindful that it isn’t pleasant for dogs to hear the sound produced so certainly haven’t (and don’t plan to) use it unnecessarily, but the added confidence I feel when armed with it does make me feel more comfortable.I like that it fits in a jacket pocket fairly easily, and it seems to be robust enough to withstand some rough handling too. It easily fits in the hand, and with a little practice it’s straight forward to use it quickly without fumbling. There is even a small torch which I’ve found handy, though it isn’t as bright as a normal torch.

Smart looking device, that is powered by an internal battery, with usb c cable to charge it.The instruction sheet is of a readable size, and everything is well explained on how to use it.The built in light isn't super bright, but will provide useful light when needed.3modes. First is a buzzer which is audible to humans. Second one is an alternating frequency, and the third is fixed frequency.A light comes on and the unit vibrates to show you that it is working.We already have a larger table mounted unit which comes on automatically when it detects a dog bark.That one works ok, but doesn't completely stop the barking.Using this new handheld one, when I pointed it at the dogs with Ultrasonic on, they didn't pay much attention to it. So it works, but I don't think it is as loud as the current larger one we have.I will try it in conjunction with the table mounted one, and hopefully the 2 combined will help.
