    I was pleasantly surprised at how durable the material of this shelving is, even on opening. Never owned bamboo furniture before so was not entirely sure what to expect, but it is pretty much identical to hardwood in properties. I have looked this up more recently and the internet says bamboo is neither a soft or hardwood, but apparently is more durable than many hardwoods! Assembly was incredibly easy with the allen key bolts. When I got to assembling the top half, I decided to keep it separate so I have two shelves sitting next to each other. Ladder assembly would have been great too in a different use case, but for the room I assembled these shelves in, horizontal space was more available than vertical at their location, so it is nice that there is that flexibility during assembly - I kept the remaining screws at hand so could easily assemble it into the full vertical ladder shelving in the future! Since assembly and over the past month, it has had all sorts placed on each level and has held up well. Appearance wise the wood does have somewhat of a sheen which is nice, very subtle but definitely there if you look at it in the right light, which indicates to me, other than it looking good, is that it's going to last and I don't need to varnish it or anything. The wood is also very flawless, there are no bumps, holes, dents, scratches or imperfections. It's great looking shelving and I think very reasonably priced for the quality of it too.

    ​This bamboo shelving unit fits nicely into pretty much any nook and cranny that exists around our house, it's narrowness makes it easy to place it just about anywhere.It goes together nicely and looks great in our hall with places to put a key-box, knick-knacks and a decorative plant.A bit expensive at £54.99, but good quality that looks excellent.

    As with everything nowadays, the Akloya Bamboo Shelving Unit arrives flat packed and needs to be assembled, however the assembly is very easy, and I speak as a person who hates home assembly. I managed to get it together in about 20 minutes. It's just a matter of screwing the screws into place with the supplied allen/hex key. Personally, I prefer screwdrivers to allen keys as I tend to constantly drop allen keys when using them which frustrates me, but nevertheless I got the job done.Once assembled, the unit is very sturdy and aesthetically pleasing. It is quite narrow making it ideal for small or cramped spaces.I was going to use the unit as an ornament stand, but I had a bookcase that collapsed the day before this arrived, so it's taken the place of the bookcase for the time being. The only thing is the shelves are made of slats, meaning something very small or very narrow will fall through the slats. That said, I can't think of many things likely small enough to actually fall through the slats.Overall, nice shelving unit, very happy with it.
