5.0 out of 5 stars This makes ice thingies.....
...not ice cubes as previously known by I.It's a fairly large black unit with a 1.2L water tank in the front inside. After leaving it to settle for 2 hours after delivery (not one hour as the manual says, 2 hours as the listing says), removing all the packing tape, not forgetting the one inside the ice pushing bit in the top mid to rear, and then giving it a quick clean and dry inside, then it was time to put water in it to the max line, and turn it on.Turning it on is done by pressing the power button, but not holding it (as otherwise it will enter a cleaning mode). I don;t know if it was because it hadn't been turned on before but it took a few attempts to get it to power up and sound liek it might do something useful, possibly involving ice production.Once started it kept going,, making what its sellers call ice cubes, actually smallish hollow elongated domes of ice. The first several batches, about the first hour, produced quite wet and thin ones, after that they became more useful, presumably it took time for the cooling bits to get fully down to temperature and do their job properly. It only stopped when the basket was full, or it thought it was full due to a bit of ice getting stuck near the top. It produced about one large ziplock bag full out of 1.2L of water in, I'd estimate, around 4 hours, at which point it ran out of water and I turned it off.It is very noticeable when running. It is not that loud, although I'd say it wa above the stated 45db, but the noise is in repeating stages. One of which is fairly quiet, but the next is louder, and then there is the crack when the ice bits get broken off, which is quite loud, and then there is the sound of the ice being pushed towards the basket and falling into the basket. None of which is particularly quiet.Measured at 1 meter the quietest it is, for a few seconds out of a cycle of several minutes, is 41db, it spends most of it's time with an average noise level of 58db, and peaks at 81db when it's breaking off and shoving the ice into the bucket. It's not excessively noisy but neither is it quiet. It is not, contrary to what's implied, a device for making ice quickly, the amount of ice produced in a cycle is quite small, probably enough to half fill a soda glass, maybe a little more as the machine gets into its stride and produces larger ice things. In my opinion it's a machine for running for quite while, hours, and filling up a ziplock bag or two with ice to store in the freezer, for when it's needed. It's a nice gadget, that I am sure I will find useful over the summer months, probably as a supplement to ice cube trays. As it produces quite small lumps of ice, the ice is good for fitting in narrow mouthed flasks, and it also, oddly, seems to work quite well in a whisky glass, with whisky, better than the large to huge ice I have been using anyway.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great for parties
This ice-maker is relatively compact so it doesn’t take up too much room on my kitchen counter. It’s relatively easy to use but the instructions aren’t great. It does produce ice cubes fairly quickly so it’s great for parties.
1.0 out of 5 stars Stopped working after 4 weeks
Returned for refund as the machine stopped working after 4 weeks
3.0 out of 5 stars A 120V device with a 13A fuse is NUTS.
Replace that with a 3A fuse before using this. For adequate protection and freaking safety.Especially if you’re leaving this on!£94.99 at time of ordering. The instructions while repetitive in places and not error-free,was easy to follow to unpack the unit.Came well packed in a solid box.Price seems similar to others on this type on Bolo.Makes “bullet ice” so not as hard as the frozen ones you’ll buy,but that might be a good thing as they melt faster(?).Good for when you need the ice to keep coming. And to fill coolers or ice buckets.A little tip—Using cold water in your ice maker will speed up the ice making process. But again, DO NOT use this without removing the 13A Bussmann fuse, change it for a UK standard 3A one!Low rating mainly for the unsafe fusing.
4.0 out of 5 stars Cool machine for hot weather❄️
The media could not be loaded. This compact little ice-maker works well drawing less than 500W at peak. Once it is running, the machine creates several cylindrical ice blocks every few minutes which are ideal for cooling drinks.ℹ️ Much of the design is very clever, including a self cleaning programme that runs for about ½ an hour.ℹ️ If you don't scoop out ice-blocks often enough it stops automatically. If you leave the ice blocks too long, they melt into the machine's water supply.⚠️ Some parts are easily accessible for cleaning, but others are not, such as the scoop that removes ice-cubes from the freezing element. The self-cleaning programme deals with that.⚠️ Note that some of the mechanism is stuck down with security tape for travel. This include some awkward to get to bits towards the back, so check carefully before starting the machine for the first time.⚠️The manual is written in good English but skips around and references functions, like changing the size of the ice blocks, without mentioning how. My guess is a lot of this manual is lifted from another machine without being proof-read.
