I have been a fan of Keith Ward for many years, and so it was a pleasure to read this book. It presents a coherent and inspiring presentation of his view of Christianity. I found myself highlighting large portions of the book and it will repay careful re-reading. Those of a fundamentalist or conservative bent may find it challenging - he certainly challenges aspects of orthodox, traditional Christian teaching, but he is always thought provoking, respectful and courteous. Atheists, sceptics and Christians will all find this a rewarding read.

Positive subsumes and transforms negative

The subtitle about “positive” Christianity with all the “bad bits” taken out is misleading. What Keith Ward does is so much more creative and profound than that. He shows how that which is dark and negative on Christian tradition is NOT simply negated, but is subsumed into God’s Life and transformed into a vision of the Cosmos where Christ’s Life overcomes death, Christ’s Love overcomes estrangement, and Christ’s Light overcomes darkness. It is a potent meditation on a Trinitarian vision of panentheism, and an incarnational understanding of what God is at work doing in the cosmos, which is prefigured and embodied in Jesus Christ.
