5.0 out of 5 stars Best sounding speaker I have heard.
I was torn between this and the Orange Box, which I loved, and wanted! But due to lack of availability, I kind of reluctantly bought the JBL Authentics 300.I just wanted a speaker for the home. For me, I don’t need it to be a camping speaker, or a beach speaker. I wanted a great listening experience around the house, and I’d narrowed it down to these two speakers to fit that brief.Initially I was disappointed, the box was noticeably damaged (I took photos of the damage, as I was so concerned), and at first glance the contents looked as though it had been re-packed, and therefore someone’s return. This had been an important speaker choice for me, and worrying about whether it was a repackaged return, took the initial edge off my purchase. I was paying for a brand new product after all.But as I carefully unpacked the unit, I was comfortable that the speaker was still unused, with important protective wrapping still intact.Every professional review I have read of this unit, all agree that it is very much a looker! And once it was fully unwrapped, I one hundred percent agree, the JBL Authentics 300 is a gorgeous speaker! It has elegance, class, heft, and everything about it says serious quality. And I have to admit, it looks better settled in the home than the Orange Box could ever have done (let’s face it I wouldn’t have bought the black version of the Orange Box! It’s just wrong!)But I buy speakers for the sound quality. On first listen via Bluetooth, I wasn’t disappointed. The sound was as gorgeous as the aesthetics! Rich, clear and open. I took it all over the house in the next few days, and it sounded just as good. It made my Audio Pro C5A sound thin! So I was very VERY happy with my purchase. After three days, I decided to listen through Wi-Fi via the JBL One app, rather than just Bluetooth. Linking to my Tidal account was easy, and from the first moment, my listening experience was transformed. My music was now even more rich, clear and open than before. I knew that Wi-Fi should offer sound quality improvements, but I’d had no idea how much better the sound would be!! I have a nice home hifi set up, Rega and Dali, and I know the JBL can never sound as good. But for the absolute convenience that streaming brings, especially via Tidal and Wi-Fi , I can see my Authentics 300 being my primary go-to listening of choice! (And of course the Orange Box doesn’t offer Wi-Fi connectivity.)There may be a better sounding speaker out there, but you’d have to pay a lot more for it. And the Law of diminishing returns, and the imperfections of the human ear, means this will remain my perfect speaker. For what I’m prepared to pay, I know I will not find anything better than this gorgeous sounding speaker. This is my sixth Bluetooth speaker, and although I love the others, not every album I listen to, sounds good on every speaker. As an example, the ‘wall of sound’ intensity of some Devin Townsend Project music is too much for some speakers. Not the JBL Authentics 300. It sounds fantastic. Everything does! I have not found any music that doesn’t sound fantastic on the JBL.Despite having the edge taken off on arrival, I am totally thrilled with this fabulous speaker. In some reviews one or two ”expert critics” seem determined to find flaws, but I consider myself to be a serious listener, with very high standards when it comes to hifi, and I’m blown away by the JBL Authentics 300.Have no hesitation, just buy and enjoy!
5.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Disappoint
Bought this mainly as a music player in my kitchen. Thought it was a bit pricey but it has been reduced so took a chance and glad I did. I can plug my ancient Fiio mp3 player into the aux and works great. I can Bluetooth my phone and play music from Spotify. I can also ask Alexa to play music and (because that's how I've set it up) Spotify on my phone is accessed via the Wi-Fi. I haven't used an RJ45, although that is an option. The audio sounds great. The bass is full and the treble is adjustable on the JBL app (or the Alexa app if you access the JBL from there... I think). The instructions were basic but useful. No remote control, which might have been an option, but you can ask Alexa to turn it down. Also works with Google, although I haven't tried that option. 100 watts. If that isn't enough the Echo Studio might be more your thing at 300 watts. Personally this is way loud enough for my purposes. A sturdy carry handle if you want to move it around.
5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly my favourite Bluetooth Speaker to date!
I love the retro design.Sound is VV good for its size and discounted price.Love the real (light up) dials for volume Bass and treble.WiFi/Alexa/Bolo Music work very well. A massive benefit over non WiFi BT Speakers.Have it on desk whereas all the others are on shelves..... Things on desk move about a bit sometimes though!!I like that its mains powered only (300 has a battery if you need that). My HK Oynx has to be plugged in for deep base so the battery is rarely used anyway.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good speaker, average app
Very pleased with the sound quality, decent bass depth for a speaker with no sub and nice response to tailoring bass, middle, treble settings (mid adjutstable in app only) depending on the requirements of the moment (reduce the bass late at night to stay on good terms with neighbours) . App is a bit sluggish at times and prone to lag or just unresponsiveness but at this price point the speaker itself more than makes it a good value addition to a music enthusiast and perfect present fo a young music fan who largely streams their fav sounds. Battery life seems decent and build quality is solid and convincing. On speaker controls could be better but easy to set through app once you get it's attention. All in all good product at £300 or below subject to deals.
5.0 out of 5 stars This is absolutely fantastic!
Originally bought a smart speaker of a different brand and was extremely disappointed with it. I returned it and bought this. The bonus is this was a hundred pounds cheaper. The differences like night and day. The previous smart speaker was a nightmare to keep connected to Alexa, this has never given me a moment's problem. The bass response is superb. I love the retro design, and also the fact that I can unplug it and take it into the garden. I recommend this item one thousand percent.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great looking speaker with excellent sound
Lovely looking speaker, easy to set up.Great sound with plenty of bass if needed.I'd definitely recommend this, even thinking of purchasing another one to pair with this one.
5.0 out of 5 stars The sound quality and bass levels possible make this the best JBL speaker I have listened to.
Out of the 11 other different models I already own this is best to date. You can download the (JBL1) app, it would not work for me and is in my opinion a revenue gathering device for selling you personal information for money to the highest bidders. You have to opt in to the terms and conditions or the app will never work. The speaker works ok without Internet connection just using the bluetooth options and recieves a normal signal level transmission well over 30 feet from the music source.Note: The subwoofer is underneath downward facing with two open ports on the back, so for best audio output it needs a flat hard surface to stand on not carpet.Mains power only no batteries inside but it's not an easy carry and designed for a static existence and dusting once a week.Ps. After test running at 75% volume for a hour (while the neighbours were out) the back was hot but not enough to burn anything
