5.0 out of 5 stars Better than an Elite.
After having two official “Elite”. (Mk1&2) all of which failed (one had stick drift straight out of the box) so actually three in total. I was reluctant to buy another expensive controller. I watched a few reviews and took a gamble on the turtle beach. Happy to say glad I did. Great controller. Feels good in the hand. Great build quality and really good responsive controller. Hugely customisable and worth the expense if you can afford it. Only thing that’s a very minor downside is the battery life. Do t get me wrong it’s fine but if you have all the lights, screen, rumble etc on you will NOT get 30hrs of battery life. Not a chance probably 15 at a push, which is still good. To counter that if you have the dock connected via USB to your console it’s never an issue as always charged and ready. Another plus point is this method allows the controller to switch on the console by pressing the home button. I game a lot and if your a serious gamer and want a better controller than the standard Xbox one this is recommended. Avoid the Xbox Elites at all costs build quality is terrible. Buy one if these instead you won’t regret it. 👍
5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Product
I absolutely love this controller. It is quite expensive though at around £170 but saying that the improvements it creates to your gaming and the pleasure you have from that makes it worth every penny.Having the extra buttons on this controller and being able to map those and all the other buttons to suit your style make this in my opinion the best controller for the xbox on the market. The pad also looks and feels great. It really feels like a quality product & im in no doubt that it is.I give this product 8/10 & highly highly recommend it.
1.0 out of 5 stars Bit underwhelming
Updated. Ended up returning the controller as It persistently disconnected while playing and needed a full reset before you could reconnect. Really frustrating experience. Battery life was also terrible and could run out in a single gaming session. Assuming it would stay connected long enough that is. Going to go back to my £40 basic controller that gives me no issues and the battery lasts for days.Avoid-----Have to admit I have been looking at this xbox controller for sometime. When it came up £40 off and on a 5 month payment plan I jumped at it.Having received it, it is a bit meh to be honest. My biggest gripe is the software. The iOS app is totally pointless in terms of functionality. All you can do is adjust the brightness, thats pretty much it.The xbox app is over complicated and doesn't seem to sync any settings down to the controller. For instance, I changed the color in the Xbox app, but the controller refuses to change. Only way I have managed to change the color is directly via the controller menu. Not the end of the world but for £140 you'd expect things to work. Never seemed to get any social media messages to the screen which made that feature pretty useless too.Compared to my £40 basic xbox controller it feels lighter. Not sure if that is a good thing yet, but the build quality does feel cheaper.
4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad
Very comfortable but build quality feels very cheap .
5.0 out of 5 stars Great controls, quiet buttons.
This controller is far superior to the xbox elite 2 controller i previously had, the joysticks are excellent, and the control buttons are very quiet, lot's of reviewers have said that the battery life is rubbish, if you have it operating with all the bells and whistles on it i dare say it is rubbish, just turn all the light's, and vibration off, put it into eco mode and the battery will last for 3 days at least. Very comfortable to hold for long gaming sessions, no stick drift, fast responsive buttons. Best controller I've ever had, well worth the price.
2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth £180 Imo
I needed to buy a new controller because my original xbox series X controller was getting wear and tear to the point the left analog stick was busted. So I decided to buy a new one and go premium for a change and also for the special occasion for the College football 25 release. Now, is this controller bad? No. Is it premium quality? No. Don't get me wrong it a good looking controller. But I didn't buy it for looks, I bought it for quality and hopefully it would last me for 4 -6 year's (My original lasted for 4 years) and let me tell you after spending a good hour playing it, it didn't feel premium. Holding it felt good but the buttons felt really cheap and the battery life is a total shocker. I think the battery life is the thing that is letting it down here. It was already down to 10% after 50 minutes, not hours MINUTES. And I need to stick it on life support and let it change every hour. My original controller (which run on rechargeable batteries) can last 8X that. Massively disappointing because I thought the charging port was the real reason the price is at £180. Now for the wear and tear factor I can't give because I haven't played it long enough to give a verdict. But by looking other reviews of this it doesn't look positive. Now it not a total disastrous product. I love how it handles, feel good to hold. The response time is lovely. And it is a pretty good looking controller. But, and just like video games. "It can have the best graphics but if the gameplay not good then it not a good game" which is what this controller is. Good looking, bad performance. Now I only had it for a couple of days so I give it the benefit of the doubt (but also because the return is absolutely pain and I cba with it right now) but the million quid question is, is it worth it price? No. It not worth your hard earn 2 days worth of work. Because it should be durable and the battery life needs to be like the Samsung Ultra and it's not. My original felt durable and IT was durable. Hell the original should be the one with £180 Prince tag (and that worth £50). Do not buy it if you are looking for something that will last for a while. This controller feels like it won't. Trust me, I played 80% of my life time and held many controllers and you just know how the controller is by just holding it. Second Nature almost. If I put a price on it from what I said then I would borderline pay £60 for it. Not £180. So don't buy it. But it's your money lads, not mine. Just giving my first impressions of it. I think Turtle Beach is standers is dropping year by year. To the point where I might not buy their products anymore so. That's my review.
Works better than expected
I really like this controller. It takes some time to get used to the on board LCD screen and menu. The software on computer works but doesn't actually control the controller in any way. I'm not sure why it exists. I would but it again for sure
It's an easy Buy for me Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra
Update: The X and Y buttons are inconsistent and it looses connection about every hour. when it drops connection you have to put it on the charger to force it to shut down and then wait for the controller to boot up and reconnect, it's a painful process. Its rubber grips are peeling up on both sides. This isn't a good controller. The only thing still working well are the hall sticks. It had promise but it doesn't last.I’ve had the controller for more than a week so far. Before this I have been using the elite and elite 2 controllers for years.First the hall effect sticks are everything I’ve ever wanted. So precise I didn’t realize how out of spec my old controller was. I set the stick dead zone to zero on both sticks and no problem, it snaps back to the exact center and no matter how hard I try I can get the targeting icon to stay put if the stick is moved all tall. I’ve tried used multiple games calibration as well as the system ones for the elite controller, always the same result. Compared to my elite 2 controller that is back from service about 3 months ago, there were spots on the calibrators at level 10 that the stick would register as center. So as far as accuracy the Stealth Ultra is amazing, in fact they are so much better I recommend the controller for that improvement alone. There are other things in the pros and cons but I’ll just say that from here on out it’s small things that I’d put in the personal preference category so if you don’t care about what I’ve listed please disregard.Pros:Hall Effect sticks are significantly better than anything you have used before. The Stealth Ultra is noticeably lighter, but it doesn’t feel like its cheep or flimsy. It still has a solid in hand feel to me so lighter is better in my opinion. This controller charges fast, I know people are hung up on the fact that you need to turn the lights down to get a good battery life out of it but if you need RGB in your face at all time just put that controller on the charge pad for 5 min and just like that you have a hour or so to play. The screen, to be clear I could care less about screen or trackpads or any other gimmick that gets put on a controller unless it offers something so the screen is pushing its luck, but the controller’s screen is my preferred place to adjust the controller settings. When I got my unit, it mapped the R3 & L3 buttons to the underside but I accidently flipped them. 1 Button press to open controller settings a few lefts and rights on the D-pad and then A button to confirm. I fixed my mistake while in game without having to back out. The screen on the controller is my preferred way to change settings too, although that’s partly due to the software being a bit clunky on the xbox. It’s the kind of setup where you make your changes then you have to upload the changes to the controller, or at least so I’m told, I like the screen so I use it.Active software updates are happening. In the past few weeks there have been 2 firmware updates and while game developers deserve the abuse, they get for needing to patch there half-baked garbage on day one I feel very optimistic about Turtle Beach backing and improving this control in the future. 1 update allowed more buttons to be mapped to the underside buttons. The second update helped with stability and fixed a led setting. I haven’t had any stability issues but the more stable the more gooder. Who knows could we gain the ability to adjust game and chat volume without taking our hands off the controller, please I’m begging here. Or could the screen show me the setting on my Turtle beach headset, that would be cool.Cons:The Stealth Ultra takes a second to boot up and to do so you have to hold down the xbox button a bit longer. Not a big deal when gaming, you can set the seep window to be up to 10min long, but when you are streaming and you want to skip to the new episode or stop the skip to watch a after credits seen you will be racing the countdown clock to wake up your controller.Vibration on the Stealth Ultra is just ok. At full force I would say it’s 7 out of 10 but at lower pulses it’s pretty bad. Most likely something that was sacrificed to lower costs and weight was the rumble. For me it’s good enough but I would still buy this controller with no vibration, the sticks are that much better. The placement of the “view” button, I call it the select button, is in a tough spot. You have to reach over the top of the left joystick and it takes some significant getting use to. I bet it will be worse for those of you who like tall sticks. You can’t map the view button elsewhere so no luck there. As soon as your controller starts charging on it’s included charging stand it disconnects from the xbox and will need to be turned back on slow boot up and all. It’s more annoying that it sounds but pretty minor overall.*All of the “cons” are minor to me but they may mean more to you. This controller cold take a 3 times longer to boot, have no vibration and no view button and it would still be the best controller I own.Other Things. This controller is a bit wider than the elite. Had to make room for the screen, I guess. I think it a little more comfortable, but you may not notice. All buttons are clicky mouse buttons. Dpad, ABXY the shoulder and trigger buttons sound a feel like a mouse click. If I press a button on both my elite controller and the Stealth Ultra there is more feed back and longer travel on the elite. The mouse click to me feels slightly “mushy” to me but it’s minor. I don’t notice while playing games just when doing the comparison. With less travel distance on the buttons, you can pretty much ensure that you can click faster on the Turtle beach controller so that is good enough for me to not care as much about the feel part. The only time you can get a battery like % is when it is charging. Otherwise, you get a battery gauge with 4 bars. Hate the bars, they are dumb on cell phones and dumb here too. You can’t even hit the xbox button and check the gauge near the time in the top corner. It always reeds full, my guess is that the usb dongle is what it is showing there but that is just a guess. You can’t adjust the center spring tension like you can with the elite controller so if you have a strong preference for that you got nothing here but the sticks snap back fast with a good force. And do I need to say how accurate they are again. This controller can get notifications for your phone, or so I’ve been told. I didn’t set it up and don’t care if I ever do.
