Great gaming keyboard
Just what my son wanted. Perfect for gamer.
A good keyboard with swappable parts in an older style
Upfront disclosure: I received this item through the Bolo Vine program for review. There is something about the sound of an older style keyboard that is very nostalgic as someone who grew up in the 1980s banging away on those keyboards with the characteristic clack-clack sound. This one reminds me of those keyboard but with way better action and a good but not overly obnoxious sound. The mechanical nature of this keyboard is rather appealing and the ability to change out keys and switches is rather nice. They included some spare switches, a tool, and several keys that have a pictures on them rather than the conventional key markings. Preinstalled are the standard keys you would expect with all of the functions labeled with icons. There is a small manual as well to help you understand all of the features and operations. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, 2.4GHz wireless with the included dongle, and a hard connection via USB C. Cables included. The battery in this keyboard seems to last reasonably well and even has a key function that allows you to clearly see how much charge you have by lighting up underneath the numbers in green. The rotary knob controls the LED lighting and I wish it could be reassigned to control something like volume instead, but it isn't the end of the world. The action on this keyboard is firm but not stressing and is reasonably fast. In that regard it is superior to my rather expensive Logitech keyboard. The lack of a 10-key is sometimes and issue for me but in day to day typing I prefer this keyboard to all of the other ones I have.Bottom line: This is a very good keyboard. It isn't perfect but for the money, it looks, feels, and performs quite nicely. Also the color makes my students smile in my classroom.
Great keyboard for the price. Replace the keycaps.
I really debated between four and five stars here, but ultimately gave it 5, since at the time of writing, you can get this for as low as $50 which is just an incredible value proposition for what this keyboard brings.Let's start with the bad. The keycaps kind of suck. Like, they're not the worst thing I've ever used, but they're thin, to the point where they actively make the sound worse. I think this board actually sounds a lot nicer with literally any other keycap set on it. They make the sound hollow and tinny. The legends look blurry to me, and the quality is poor--there's little spurs on the bottom of the keycaps in some areas. They're far too smooth and feel small and chintzy. If you buy this board, I would factor in getting new keycaps for it. You can get reasonably nice ones fairly cheap. The switches are a very soft switch, but I have no problems with them. They don't bottom out too early like some others I've used. They don't actuate super early either, which I think is a huge perk. They feel nice, and this keyboard--with the switches intact--has become my daily driver over the Yunzii Cocoa Cream ones I was using before (I still love them, but they were too clacky for this keyboard). I also prefer these over Gateron Yellows, which I think are a good comparison--these are just a little bit lighter. The build quality is fairly decent. It's plastic, sure, but not all plastic is created equal. This feels thicker and more premium than other plastics I've used.I think the sound is where this keyboard really thrives. At, again, a price point of about $50 it's kind of unparalleled in the "sound" department. It's got a silicone bottom pad mixed with a bunch of foams. An interesting touch--the top plate is a thicker acrylic rather than metal. Not sure if it's a cost-saving feature, but it definitely creates a nice sound, when mixed with the relatively quiet switches. The stabilizers feel really well lubed. If you buy this thing, and you're comfortable, I do recommend a tape mod. I put tape over the gaps in the silicone where the feet were, and I also put tape under the PCB. It makes the sound a little bit more poppy and mellow, a bit deeper. Getting this open isn't that bad, there aren't any screws you need to undo, but it's not my favorite to open. I'm not a huge fan of the plastic clip style, I always feel like I'm going to break them. The knob is existent. It's fine, nice aesthetically, but it's not grippy at all which means you need two fingers to turn it. They kind of feel pointless to me if I'm being honest.RGB is decent. It has enough functionality and is reasonably bright. I love that it actually has lights for scroll lock and caps (something you can't count on in a lot of more expensive keyboards). Bluetooth and wireless is a nice touch, but honestly most every keyboard seems to have them these days.Over all, it's a wonderful keyboard in terms of sheer budget.
Hard pass on this keyboard
This keyboard reminds me of a Royal kludge keyboard. It’s hot swappable which is great and comes with extra switches and keycaps. When it got here there was a couple of keycaps not attached to the board which should’ve been a sign since it most likely left the manufacturing facility like this. Upon opening it I noticed that the control button didn’t change rgb at all. The board nor the box is damaged, so this is a quality control issue or a setting issue that we cannot figure out. Pass on this keyboard and go for a RK for a budget board or an EPOMAKER.
Premium build quality and performance!
I've tried a number of high end mechanical gaming keyboards in the past and was underwhelmed by the performance of the keys. Some clicky, some less, but the amount of pressure wasn't just right. Or there was detectable friction. I just poor dimensions causing restrictive keystrokes.I decided on the MageGee SKY81 for its smaller form factor and layout. It also had the best connectivity options. Others lacked the USB to USB option while charging, only for charging thus causing down time. What's the point? The one chosen was the purple model for its lighter pantone and muted look. The trade off I discovered is the loss of contrast and ease of reading the keys. The backlit feature doesn't shine through for easy reading in the dark. The backlighting is decorative only.Quality of the keyboard is excellent. Very solid construction and heft. No hollowness during operation. The keys are very slick, no friction when struck.NOTE: the key caps were not installed all the way on some and were scattered all over the box! Snapping them back on fixed the keyboard. The keyboard is compact, ideal for storing for transport, and for small desks. The keys were a pleasure to type on, and I was able to efficiently test them typing a document. A relief! It has been the top performing gaming keyboard among the ones I've tried and own. There are a few options to theme some of the keys. I chose to forego. My only criticism is the keys should have used a higher contrast font color. White on the muted off-white caps is totally camouflaged. But it still is a very satisfactory high quality product.
