    Healthspan have been around for years and are well known, they do good products, so I thought I would give the probiotics a go as my usual ones from a different brand have gone up 30% in the past year, these contain a couple of probiotics strains one from the Lactobacillus and one from the Bifidobacteria, it also contains additional zinc and biotin, I like the way the capsules are packaged and it is early days to know how well they are working, they passed the milk test and produced yoghurt when added and left in milk which at least tells me some of the bacteria are alive. The only criticism I would make is that I would prefer no additional additives such as Magnesium stearates or bulking agents as they are not needed you see a lot of manufacturers using natural rice flour instead these days and I prefer this and I wish Healthspan would do the same which would make this product even better.

    As with any supplement, it is difficult to know whether they are doing any good.These are capsule form probiotics that are easy to swallow.I can't say that I noticed any immediate difference from taking them, but time will tell.

    To be fair, I think the main thing that affects my guts is the metformin I take for diabetes. I hoped that something like this would regulate things a bit but really it doesn't at all. I used to make my own milk kefir That was fantastic for regulating my gut. Perhaps I should try it again.

    I accept the caveat that NO supplement is a substitute for a healthy and balanced diet. But it can be hard work to eat healthily all the time, and sometimes just not very enjoyable.It's only just beginning to be understood that gut health could have far-reaching implications for our overall health, and isn't related only to obvious symptoms like bloating or digestive discomfort.I don't really expect to see dramatic benefits from taking these, but I was happy to be offered them, as I think of it more like an insurance policy. I hope my gut microbiome is doing OK, but I don't really know, and given my rather haphazard and convenience-oriented diet, I suspect possibly not.Healthspan is a trusted brand, and the UK's largest mail-order supplier of vitamins, minerals and supplements. I already use other products in the range.These are white, flavourless, odourless capsules, and the recommended dose is two per day with water, so the pack is about a month's worth. Some people might find the capsules a bit large, but they're very smooth, and I don't personally have any difficulty swallowing them.The only real drawback I can see is the expense. At the current list price of £24.99, I'm not sure whether I would pay to continue them past the 30-day trial. To take them all the time would come in just short of £300 per year, which is not a trivial sum of money, especially if you'll probably never have concrete proof of the benefits.
