4.0 out of 5 stars Very heavy padlock
This is a VERY heavy padlock. it seems to be excellent quality, and comes with a very wide shaft which I presume is what is classed as bolt cutter resistant. I did intend to use it for a storage unit of the large and colourful variety; however they declined to let me use it "because of the shape". I firmly believe this was because they wouldn't be able to use bolt cutters to open it if I fell behind on the rent and the repossessed the unit.... if you turn that on its head that's an endorsement of sorts! The listing states that Britianium is a British company. I confess I don't know them (until now). I also note this lock does not (yet?) appear to have a CEN rating which is sometimes required by insurers. However doing some research it said locks with a shackle width under 11mm are unlikely to meet CEN criteria; this one has a shackle width of 14mm so one would hope it would pass at least in that respect. It's also got an armoured body which is an accepted anti-drill feature. The lock comes with ten keys, no doubt nine shall be 'kept safe' and I won't be able to find them when I lose the other one :-DIt's worth noting that the manufacturer states that metal lubricant should be used on the lock directly after purchase and twice a year moving forward from that point.As. layman, this seems to tick all the right boxes. Hopefully a hobbyist lock picker can come a long in a moment and give a verdict from their point of view! From me, four stars.
5.0 out of 5 stars Fort Knox for Your Everyday Security Needs
The Britanium® BRL85 Heavy Duty Padlock is a robust security solution that doesn't mess about when it comes to protecting your valuables. This beefy lock is designed to withstand not just determined thieves, but also the unpredictable British weather.First impressions are solid - quite literally. The padlock has a reassuring weight to it, immediately conveying its heavy-duty nature. The build quality is top-notch, with a sturdy body that feels like it could withstand a fair bit of abuse. One of the standout features is the anti-drill cylinder. This adds an extra layer of security, giving you peace of mind that your lock won't be easily compromised by common break-in techniques. It's a thoughtful touch that sets this padlock apart from more basic models. The weather-resistant design is particularly appealing for our often damp climate. Whether you're securing a garden shed, a shipping container, or an outdoor gate, this lock should hold up well against rain, sleet, and whatever else the sky decides to throw at it.Including 10 keys is a generous move by Britanium. It means you can distribute spares to family members or keep them in various safe locations without worrying about being locked out. Just be sure to keep track of who has a key!On the downside, the sheer size and weight of this padlock might be overkill for lighter security needs. It's definitely geared towards heavy-duty applications, so consider if you really need this level of security for your particular use case.Overall, the BRL85 Heavy Duty Padlock offers serious security at a reasonable price point. It's well-suited for high-security needs like shipping containers, industrial sites, or valuable equipment storage. While it might be more than you need for a gym locker, it's perfect for those situations where you can't afford to compromise on security.
5.0 out of 5 stars If Godzilla had a padlock.....
This is a big, chunky fella, to be sure!It comes with no less than ten keys, so either the manufacturer knows me and my habit of misplacing things like keys, or this is actually intended for the workplace, for something like a bike shed, where you can give multiple employees a copy of the key. Either way, it's very handy! The keys are dimple-cut, which makes it harder to pick, but also harder to get spares. The padlock itself is very big, with the main lock bar being 14mm diameter, so you might want to check that it will fit through whatever you want to lock with it. You also don't get a lot of play in width, with just 36mm to the horns at either side, plus the horns standing 5mm above the locking bar, so it's really worth checking before you buy.It has the useful feature that it won't let you take the key out unless the lock is engaged, which is good to ensure that you know when it's locked. You're not going to walk away thinking you've locked it when you haven't, or get halfway home and get the 'Did I lock the bike shed??' moment ;PAs a whole it's a weighty and intimidating thing, and I can't see it giving way to a set of bolt-cutters, or any less than five hacksaw blades, or the ol' freeze-then-hammer trick. It's just too big and weighty. Half it's job is achieved by deterrent, I think. But I also think this has the chops to back that up, with body weight and dimple keys. The only thing I can't comment on yet is how it'll withstand a British winter. Time will tell, I guess...Is it pricey? Yes. Does it feel like it warrants that? Totally. I've bought padlocks half this good at retail and DIY sheds costing half again as much, and they didn't have a patch on this.
5.0 out of 5 stars Padlock For Godzilla's Cage!
Padlock supplied with TEN keys! Anti drill keyhole. Grade 45 being a common standard for good padlocks. This is a beast of a padlock, had to weight it, 964 grams on my scales, this lock means business. There's no CEN rating for this padlock. Be aware that some insurers MAY require you to use a CEN approved padlock. It's easy to use, I did find that the keys are a little clunky to operate, not what I'd call smooth. That said it does say to lubricant before using, which is exactly what it needs. The key hole doesn't have a cover, and this padlock is suggested for outdoor use.The sliding pin works well, again needs some lubrication, it's also very solid, and chunky. Plus the small opening makes it's really difficult / impossible to use bolt cutters on them?Good padlock, heavy, great to have so many spare keys for commercial customers??At the time of this review, £34.99 on Bolo

great fit
Works well for camper locks. Highly recommend and no issues outdoors.
Sturdy
I haven't figured out how I'm going to use this yet, but I really like it. It seems pretty pick-proof (Nothing is TRULY pick-proof). The shackle seems very well-made, and it doesn't seem like it would be easy to cut off either. This would require an angle grinder to remove without the key, and it would take awhile to cut through. The only complaint I have is that the shackle doesn't fit into most standard gate latches. It's a bit too wide. If it had a thinner shackle, it would have more uses.Don't ever lose the keys. This one's not budging.
Better than I expected
After I ordered, I saw Lock Picking Lawyer did some videos on this brand in which he did simple rake attacks and opened them up. I'm not nearly as good as him and my raking could use practice, but I'm happy to report I couldn't do it. Maybe it can still be done, but the cylinder on this is obviously not the same as the one in his videos. This is an improved version. At the very least, it'll keep me from picking it haha.
Saw the negative reviews, not true for my lock
Simply the most solid padlock I have ever held in my hand. Good thing it comes with ten keys, as I would not look forward to cutting it off.The unit is well machine, hardened and with a large pin.I did see the video of someone opening the lock with a car key and the key partially inserted, which caused some concern as I am using this to secure a trailer. But, I had no luck trying to open the lock with a number of keys, screw drivers, and the key partially inserted. The lock in the lower rated video most have been faulty. I recommend that the person return it and get a new one as this a lock that I'm confident in to protect property.
