5.0 out of 5 stars Good reliable Blu Ray drive
I purchased this Blu Ray drive for my new mini pc as it doesn't have one fitted. Worked without any problem, it reads all of my old disks as well as burning my existing dvd disks.I purchased a different drive before this one that wouldn't recognise either of my computers so I returned it to Bolo who refunded me within a matter of hours.I recomend this drive for ease of installation, sturdiness and value for money.
1.0 out of 5 stars Buy another Blu Ray Drive
I bought this because I wanted something I could backup home videos that's stored on my desktop PC and to watch Blu Rays on my laptop. The first day, it worked great. Windows saw it in device manager and it did want I wanted. The 2nd day it would randomly stop playing and I need to unplugged and plugged in back in ( I had it plugged into a USB 3.1 port so should be OK ) and even then would eject the disc a few times before picking up the disc. It is a nice drive and I was disappoint I couldn't get it working the way I needed. Item is being returned for a refund.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good Device
Worked out of the box, no additional software needed. Happy with purchase.
5.0 out of 5 stars Erm, did I get the same device as everyone else?
We have a couple of new laptops here, neither with and inbuilt optical drive, and there are times when I need one. I also run a FriendlyElec NanoPc-T6 RK3588 Ubuntu based mini-server. Unless it's needed elsewhere, the drive is kept plugged into the mini-server, and it's performed admirably. However, my main Blu-ray player which is the best part of 15 years old has recently started getting a cranky on the mechanical side. So with the correct software loaded on the mini-server, I'm now using the drive on the mini-server to play Blu-ray discs too. For me in Ubuntu Linux, this works perfectly! Everything I've thrown at this drive, It's managed without a problem. If I had any criticism, it would be that the case tolerances are too tight - but nothing to drop this down from 5 stars!Little addendum: I've had an issue with the drive today - it wouldn't play a disc! Seems, everything I've used in it up to this point was region free, today I actually had to set it to region 2!
5.0 out of 5 stars Works properly and durable!
Each Saturday night, we have a movie night, and this drive has made it so easy to enjoy out favorite films. Setting it up is a breeze, just plug it in laptop, and it's ready to go!The drive is lightweight and portable, so I can easily pack it for trips, too. we've watched everything from classic DVDs to some exciting Blu-ray titles, and the picture quality has been impressive. It's been a fantastic addition to our movie nights!
2.0 out of 5 stars No Good For Loading Up PC Games.
It worked fine as a Blu-ray, but when I attempted to load an older PC Game on CD, it broke down and stopped working. I think it overheated, burning out some transistors and destroying the device. The Game was Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Legacy Edition with a remastered version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, a relatively hefty upload of 80G Bytes. I returned the item and received my money promptly, so there is excellent customer service there, but I would not recommend this Blu-ray player. It's best for viewing Blu-rays only.
3.0 out of 5 stars Short lead and no BR player software
So, I've been holding off on reviewing this because I really wanted to give it a proper and fair go.To say I've struggled is an understatement. If you're considering this to watch BluRay DVDs on your PC equipment, just be aware that there is no native software that can handle BluRays in the Windows OS. Not only that, but you have to be careful what software packages you buy; many have burning software, whatever, but nothing that can actually play a disk!!I have an old Toshiba Qosimo with a BR player, but the Corel software that came with it says it is out of license, I went back to an old copy of Nero, 2016 I think; refused to start up and insisted I paid £30 to upgrade the the latest verion, which turned out not to have a player included!!!!So, I can only really rate this on what I can see. It played DVDs fine, even if it appeared to have power issues on certain ports. I guess running any disk player through USB is going to be touch and go for that. The lead storage under the unit is "nice", but this results in the lead being way too short to be practical. I attached it to my laptop, but being a sleek base it only has USB on the back, so you couldn't have the unit by the side and had to reach over the screen to put disks in and out of it. When I use my stack, it was a choice between using a front USB and balancing it on top or having it dangle by the cable, or putting it in a read USB and not being able to reach it at all!The DVD drive I had previously had a little draw-string baggy to keep it in, which was a nice touch. Not berating it for not having that, but if you're keeping this in a laptop bag, be aware it'll be floating around loose. In summation, if you have the software then it's not a bad drive by any means, maybe Macs have BluRay software in them?!? I wouldn't know, If not and you want to use it for more than viewing data, give it a long hard think, most consoles play BR nowadays and a standalone player isn't much more expensive than this, add in the cost of software and you may be looking at a more costly solution than you think.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Excellent build quality
Works good
Multiple functions makes it valuable
Seems very well constructed and performs flawlessly.
I hav.e several of these portable DVD drives... I can never seem to remember where I store them over the long term. All of them perform as described, but this one has a "heft" to it that implies to me, at least, a quality build "under the hood"... So far so good as I have used it several times to perform various tasks. My only observation is this: being absent of mind at times, as I have described above, the dual connector on the unit means that not even I can loose the other connector!
Its great!
I've only used it once. to play a DVD on my laptop but it work just fine for that purpose. I havent used it for installing any software or for burning anything so I am not sure how well it works for those applications/
I needed a CD/ROM for my new desktop
I recently purchased a new desktop PC, but it did not come with a CD/RW/ROM so I purchased this to upload my 2023 tax software package. Price is great, packaging was very good, very timely shipping with Prime, and the drive worked the first time I connected it with the USB cable. Would have liked the cable to be about 6 inches longer to make it easier for connecting to the back of the desktop.
Solid model, does the stuff
Why the dickens don't laptops come with disc drives any more? I don't know either, but now I also don't care bc this disc drive has got me covered. Very plug and play. I am not very particular about my disc drives, if it reads and writes CDs and DVDs I am happy. And this one does those things well. I love that the cord coils into the bottom, makes it easy to slip into my backpack and take with. The value is excellent for all the different ports and inputs it can use. I am 100% pleased!
