3.0 out of 5 stars A good basic kit which will occupy a younger child
Our daughter (12 at time of review) generally enjoyed this kit, though did find some aspects a bit simple for her. Being aimed at 8 plus, probably a bit young for her.She has had potion / science experiment kits before and enjoyed them; this one had simpler experiments so less engaging. She enjoys seeing the foaming / eruption type experiments, which this kit contains a couple of, just not as much variety of different types of exciting experiments in this as in others we have seen.Good that the scientific principle for each experiment is explained in the manual, so the set is definitely educational.Good that most of the additional ingredient requirements are generally readily available in most households.Good that the manual is well illustrated and the instructions are generally clear, though all quite small text.A good basic kit which will occupy a younger child for a good length of time, with some adult supervision.
4.0 out of 5 stars Just Okay
I had a quick skim through this book to pick out a few experiments that I would be able to do with the little ones. Most of these are fairly repetitive and have some form of reaction to citric acid or baking powder. I was a little underwhelmed with the lack of variety in this kit, but and this is a big BUT, the kids absolutely love seeing things fizz and spill over and we've done the experiment at least a dozen times, with no less enthusiasm from the first time we did the experiment. The accompanying booklet was useful as it walks through what the experiments are demonstrating and whilst there isn't a deep explanation (even in complicated terms for adults to simplify) once again it's enough.Whilst I wasn't too impressed with the kit, the children seem to love it and this is designed for children, so it's a thumbs up!
5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and safe chemistry kit
This is a very reasonably priced chemistry set that’s ideal for pre-secondary school children. It doesn’t contain any toxic substances and the experiments are all fun and easy to follow and will give children a basic understanding of the processes involved. At just £14 at the time of ordering, it will make a great stocking filler for any budding chemist.
3.0 out of 5 stars good for an intro to science, but gets repetitive
There are good bits and not so good bits to this kit. While this Science Experiments Kit offers a decent introduction to basic chemical reactions, it falls short in terms of providing a truly engaging and educational experience. The focus on common household ingredients like citric acid and baking soda limits the scope of experiments and can make the kit feel repetitive. It includes simple instructions and requires readily available materials, and The accompanying booklet provides explanations of chemical reactions, although the vocabulary could be simplified depending pn age of use.It does become a little repetitive as its focus on citric acid and baking soda restricts the variety of experiments.A good intro to science, but will get boring quickly for older children
4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting
Some interesting accessories in this educational kit, including safety goggle. I like the clear instruction book and the fact that only basic extras e.g cooking oil or washing up liquid are needed to conduct most of the experiments
3.0 out of 5 stars Repetitive
In the good old days, when people took responsibility for their actions and didn't blame others for mishaps, a Science Experiments Kit was a Chemistry Set bursting with proper chemicals that these days are considered too hazardous for children to use. No more pieces of magnesium, no iron filings, no mildly radioactive substances…No, these days your exposure is limited to citric acid, baking soda, and food colouring. And that's pretty much what you receive in this kit, along with a few other powders and liquids you'll find in most kitchens. It's not a bad set, it's just rather repetitive with its use of citric acid and baking soda to create chemical reactions. The booklet that accompanies the kit is generally well written, and contains explanations of the reactions taking place. However, in many places it forgets who the target audience is, and doesn't simplify the vocabulary adequately. For example, it explains what polymers are, but refers to 'molecules' without any further explanation. In other parts, the instructions are very brief and lacking in detail. It's okay, but not great. Probably best given as a present rather than something you'd buy for yourself.
4.0 out of 5 stars So much fun
This is a great science chemistry set for the young children to learn.Great value for money and nice quality.
