Impressive Little Light
This is my second compact video light from Zhiyun and once again I am impressed. They are really doing a good job at maximizing performance in a small package.The build quality is mostly plastic, but for the price, I would say that it is pretty good quality and reasonably durable. At max brightness, This light is similar output to a 100 W light bulb. You could potentially use it as a key light indoors with some diffusion, but it would only be usable as a fill light outdoors during the daytime.Overall, I find this light intuitive and easy to use. The wide spectrum of color options is nice to have. I think when you consider the price and the compact size of this light it is a top performer in its niche. It is definitely one of the first lights I will be grabbing when I have to pack light for a trip.
Best Small Portable I Have Seen to Date!
This little guy is very impressive, and it has a lot of different features that will appeal to a number of different users.15Ws of power from such a small, compact unit is amazing! I have shot a lot of video on Red Carpets, and this light would be near perfect for that kind of work. Lightweight - important when a rather heavy camera is sitting on your shoulder - great "throw", and the ability to match different colour temperatures that you sometime encounter.In studio or homes, not only can it provide light in many different areas, but you can plug the unit into power and it will run as long as you want. It becomes a versatile, small fixture.Having the ability to work in primary colours, you can "colour" a background. An interview in a lab? Hide this fixture behind some piece of equipment and turn on the RED to look "hi-tech". Need a cop car outside? Turn on the "Police Car" setting, and have it rim your actor's face and suddenly there is a cop car outside the house! All these various setting open up a lot of possibilities - for such a small fixture, it is remarkable!A 1/4 20 thread on the bottom, allows you endless mounting possibilities. I like that fact that you can place the unit on any of the four edges, and it will stand up just fine.Because of the heat generated, it is very "open" on it case. In fact, it actually has a very small fan at the back. But the sound of this fan is minimum. I work with several different soundman, and not one has objected to be being on. It is supplied with a soft front defuser to really knock down shadows.It will not work in rain, and I think a degree of care needs to be afforded so you don't let anything get inside the unit.Bottom line - a surprisingly well featured portable light. Powerful, able to work on mains (house power) and with a lot of lighting effects! This would one excellent light to keep with your camera at all times, for any "just in case" moments you might come up against!
