    In heavy clay soil like ours, that bakes hard in Summer and holds water so that it's really heavy the rest of the time, easy to use hole borers that go in to a drill like this make life much easier. These, though, leave something to be desired.The supplier packaging consisted of an all plastic bubble wrap envelope, the tips of both augers wrapped in bubble wrap, but other than that both were wrapped only in a thin layer of plastic bag. This wasn't enough to stop the two bits from clanking into each other. Just lifting the packet to open it the two metal bits were banging loudly and heavily into each other. The result of the lack of protection is that both bits (which are coated in a heavy layer of black paintwork over the metal) arrived with large chips of their coating peeling off. The coating should be protecting the metal, but instead it's left exposed in parts. I’m not keen on the part where bits of the paintwork are coming off worse when these are used: it's not clear that this doesn't contain unpleasant/unhealthful chemicals that will pollute the soil if permitted to crumble into it.

    We have clay soil and it's a nightmare to dig if wet it sticks to everything, when dry it's like concrete.This helps a lot with lightweight posts, I don't want to dig a huge hole and being clay everything around the hole goes weak.This creates a nice neat hole without disturbing the clay around it.Lifts easily with dry soil (not tried wet soil yet).My only wish was that it was a bit longer as unless it is a really lightweight post I could do with more depth/stability.Bit overall it does the job and will take some abuse.
