5.0 out of 5 stars AIYIMA - T1PRO Tube Preamp Amplifier Home Audio Preamplifier
I have a pretty simple audio setup connected to my PC, consisting of a 6.1 creative surround sound speaker system for gaming, but also have the output connected to a cheap D class amplifier from Nobsound that cost me all of about £25 and hooked up to that are a pair of Mission M71 bookshelf speakers. For the price I paid, I have been well impressed with that little amplifier, but it doesn’t have any tone controls, so when offered the chance to test this little tube pre-amp, I was keen to give it a go.The T1 Pro is nice and compact at just 13cm x 11.5cm x 3.5cm (WxDxH) and with it’s all metal exterior, it feels really nice and solid. At the front you have 2 metal switches, with one being used to swap between power off, Bluetooth or RCA mode. The other lets you turn on the tone controls or to bypass them completely. You have 3 metal rotary knobs that are used to control bass, treble and volume – these all feel really nice to use with a smooth action that clicks into place as you turn them.On the top are 2 sockets for connecting the included tubes. These simply push into place and when powered on give off a nice blue glow.Around the back is where all of the connections are made, with an RF aerial socket, a reset hole for the Bluetooth connection, a pair of RCA inputs and RCA output, a 3.5mm AUX output, a 3.5mm 12v trigger to automatically switch on an amplifier and a 12v DC power socket. Finally, at the bottom are 4 nice silicone feet to stop the device from skating around your desk.***** In The Box *****1 x T1 Pro2 x 6186 Vacuum tubes1 x BT Antennae1 x 12v Mains Adapter1 x User Manual1 x AIYIMA Sticker***** Conclusion *****I will start off by saying that this is my first experience of using a tube pre-amp and the AIYIMA brand, so I have nothing to compare it against, but so far I am really impressed. The quality of the T1 Pro seems really good and I love that they have made the product customisable, by allowing the quick replacement of the OP amp chip and tubes.Having Bluetooth connectivity is a nice bonus, as you can quickly pair a smartphone for playback and I like that it supports the more efficient BT5.1 standard, along with support for AptX HD.Connecting the T1 Pro to my existing setup was really straight forward – I just needed to use a 3.5mm to RCA cable between the input ports and my PC and then an RCA to 3.5mm between the outputs and my Nobsound amp. This has given me the ability to adjust the bass and treble and has also given the sound a nicer, warmer tone. I have only used the pre-amp for around 15 hours so far, but I believe the sound will change as the time goes on and usually gets even better.I think the £79.99 asking price is pretty reasonable for what seems to be a good quality product and I shall look into swapping the cheap little Nobsound amp for the AIYIMA A70 to take advantage of the useful 12v trigger function.
5.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent
A nice addition to my home cinema. Connects really well, with no issues at all. Smooth operation and a wonderful retro design. Amazing.
Does its job well while looking and sounding good and provides great value too
The finish on this compact little box is impeccable; matte black with a subtle sheen. I like the firm detents in the three potentiometers (volume, bass and treble). The knob feel is excellent; silky smooth and precise. The switches are attractive little toggles and the knobs are nicely knurled for a good grip. The instruction booklet is well printed, readable and very clear, with helpful wiring diagrams included.I tested the preamp connected to a Fosi ZA3 amp driving Realistic Minimus 7 passive speakers and a Mackie CR-X 8-inch subwoofer. The sound, as expected, is great. Clean, no audible distortion, plenty of drive for the amplifier. The tone controls provide useful amounts of lift and cut for the bass and treble, perfect for a little needed room or speaker compensation. I like that the tone controls can also be bypassed with a front switch flip. The rear connectors are all good quality and hold plugs solidly. The 12V trigger out is very useful to control an attached amplifier. Works perfectly.Bluetooth works perfectly. It connects easily and has very clean, undistorted sound. I prefer to use the wired RCA inputs though, and of course that works perfectly too. I connected a Google Chromecast Audio streamer and served up a variety of music from my playlists.I didn’t encounter any issues with this device and I can’t even think of anything negative to say about it. It does its job well while looking good and provides good value too.
Upgrade your Audio 'stack' a little Tube warmth
This a very clever product from Aiyima. I think you should think of this product as an "optional extra" to buy with your Aiyima A70 (or alternatively to pair with similar Amplifiers from Fosi Audio like the ZA3 or V3 Mono). All these Amplifiers have both an XLR and RCA inputs and I think this is what can be clever about this T1 Pro.You can keep your XLR input into these Amplifiers for a 'clean' clinical sound and buy this T1 Pro for a 'warm' pleasant Tube sound from the RCA input, therefore allowing interesting experimentation without being fully committed to Tubes Amp (like I did with the Aiyima T9 in the past). So what do you get with the T1 Pro. I have included some photos of the box contents and what it looks like setup, the supplied Tubes have lovely blue glow (especially in the dark). Here are I really likes about the T1 Pro:1. It's a Preamp and easy to fit into almost any setup. Since it's a preamp - it can easily sit in between any source and your current Amplifier. I used this with a WiiM Mini connected via optical to an SMSL D-6s DAC and with an Aimiya A70 on the amplifiers side. The SMSL DAC has both RCA and XLR outputs so I connected the RCA into the T1 Pro and the RCA output from the T1 Pro into the A70. I also connected the XLR output from the SMSL DAC directly into the A70 (so I could simple switch the inputs on the A70 to go from direct XLR 'clinical sound' and RCA 'tube sound'. Fantastic way to appreciate the subtle difference.2. The Tones controls and that they can be 'defeated' with a button This is another clever option especially with a Tube Pre-amp - having access to tone controls (especially the Treble IMO with Tube amplifiers is interesting) but then being able to disable them is also very good, allowing simple A/B testing, i.e. do I need a little more bass or not A/B test the difference and see what you like.3. Tubes look cool It is always nice to look at the glow of a tube (like staring at a fire), as the evening gets darker the tubes obviously become more effective and give out a pretty nice glow in the room.4. Trigger output This is another reason I feel this is the perfect add-on for the A70 which has a trigger input, simple connect the 2 devices with a simple audio cable and the Tube can automatically switch on the A70 when its needed.5. Bluetooth codecs Finally, Aiyima are putting a full range of Bluetooth codecs in their devices. So the T1 Pro supports AAC (for Apple devices), SBC, APTX, and I am especially happy to see high-fidelity APTX-HD supported.6. Tube and op-amp rolling I will mention it here but I didn't tried it but I believe both the tubes and the internal op-amps can be swapped for a very customised / upgraded sound profile.Having used this for a few days I cannot think of any cons at this price. Maybe that the Aux output is sort of useless, at least compared to a dedicated sub-output as it is not controlled by the volume, so difficult to seamless blend the subwoofer and speakers outputs. But in conclusion this great way to experiment a little with your audio setup and I totally recommend getting one of these little toys to enhance the enjoyment of your audio setup (and your music of course).
Beautiful, great sounding little thing
I put this in between my TV and my existing amp and oh god, what an improvement. I was sceptical that I'm gonna hear anything, but there are two areas that shine now:- bass is controlled much much better, it's precise and not that boomy,- it's not only good for music: it does something amazing with speech! When watching movies and series I definitely hear the dialogues better than before. This was really unexpected.Build quality is amazing and the thing is tiny (pictures don't show that, but just look how much space RCAs are taking on it). Glowing tubes are a cherry on top and I won't be original and say looking at them gives plenty satisfaction.Oh and one tiny flaw for me - the LED on the front is definitely too powerful. I guess it would be fine in just audio setup, but when it sits below the TV the light coming from that LED is definitely distracting.
