Small but mighty
When this easel arrived, I was somewhat skeptical. It came in a small box weighing almost nothing. The easels we use at work, also metal, are fairly heavy and at least twice as long when completely folded up. We needed to replace some of those, but comparable ones are well over $100.After I unboxed and assembled the Ohuhu easel, I am very impressed. This easel is a little less flexible in how you set up than others I’ve used; for instance, the bottom tray that supports your canvas or whatever can only go in one of two locations whereas our other easels are completely flexible in this regard since they use a small bracket that you tighten wherever you want. However, the benefit of this is that it is easy to make sure that your tray is always level.This easel also didn’t have any of the stabilizing crossbars that our other easels have, but the tray bar that attaches securely to the legs by hanging on screws plus a strap with Velcro mean that you are able to get pretty good stability from this – certainly stable enough for anything we would put on this easel. The weight limit is said to be 15 lbs, and I think that’s pretty accurate. But for most canvases or signs, this will be completely adequate.The top clamp, once I figured out how to operate it, is a nice addition to help secure your display or canvas, however if your item is too tall it’s unobtrusive and allows you to rest your display against the upper support.The legs on this easel adjust with a sort of latch mechanism rather than the kind where you twist to tighten. I’m a little concerned about these latches breaking since they are plastic, but I’ll see how that goes.Finally, because this is so small and light, it came with a carrying case/bag. The bag itself is not all that great, but it gets the job done. It’s a pretty cheap plasticy material that I think will tear pretty quickly. The strap on the bag is technically adjustable, but at it’s longest length it’s only as long as the bag itself, meaning you can only shorten it which doesn’t actually work if the easel is in the bag. The manufacturer should have saved the 3 cents or whatever it cost them for the plastic hardware or spent a couple of extra pennies to make the strap long enough that being adjustable actually makes sense.
Like the design, floor to table options.
The setup is super simple with this easel, it takes about 1 minutes to have it setup. The materials and construction is excellent, the looks hold things in place and do not slip loose, if you want to make an adjustment you need to unlock the piece before doing so, which makes this a solid design with the one exception of the back leg. It is free to move on its own, this limits the users/enviroment that this can be setup a bit, the intentions was to use this at the front of the class for school, but if with young kids it might be knocked over due to this back leg. I'm still going to try it, it's just a hunch right now, but I really wish that leg had a lock of some type to prevent it from moving.
Lightweight Tripod Easel with Assembly
I chose this easel for my paint-by-number paintings. Overall, the easel comes with a storage bag and basic instructions that may be difficult to follow. You'll need your own Philips screwdriver to assemble it. The smallest canvas it can hold is 12x16 inches. One downside is that there's nothing securing the third leg. It's a good height for standing and is suitable for someone like me who's 5'4" tall. However, the need to unscrew the bar to adjust it every time is inconvenient.Assembly-Once you have extended the legs, you will need to add the easel stand bar that holds your canvas. First, unscrew the screw, and then loosen the back of the screw to move the rings. Once the rings are in place, tighten them back and screw the bar into place. After assembling everything, you'll need to adjust it for your canvas. In the attached photo, I am holding up a 9x12 inch canvas to show that it doesn't reach the area for the rings to meet the bar. The bar is at its top position in the photo with the 12x16 inch completed canvas.
Surprisingly stable, but may not last
This easel is surprisingly stable. Once everything is set and locked into place, it doesn't move at all. Nice that it comes with a zippered bag. My only conercn is that some of the plastic parts feel kind of lightweight, so it's hard to say whether or not this easel will last.
Great Features, Great Easel, Very Happy Overall
Before ordering this easel, we have been using a wooden setup from Michael's that is difficult to break down, but held up well for what we needed. What we needed was something that can hold a framed poster for author events, and being able to collapse this down to move around easily was the major reason for ordering this.First of all, this feels VERY light as you open it up. The latches to extend / lock legs and the top support feel light also, almost like if you try to latch or unlatch them too fast, they might break. So far so good though. It doesn't have a heavy sturdy feel, but for the price, I feel like this is a great option.Being able to adjust the legs, adjust the mounts for the lower bar to hold the poster, and the adjustable top slide to secure the top, this makes for a VERY effective easel that we are happy to use. 5 stars for what it is, but if you need a medium/heavy duty easel that can stand a light bump or a gust of wind, maybe search elsewhere.
