5.0 out of 5 stars Very capable & fun drone - really easy to operate.
Very capable & fun drone - really easy to operate.Superb value for money little drone. Comes with x3 2000mAh rechargeable batteries for the drone, the remote control has a battery internally that is rechargeable too. There's 2 micro USB cables to charge them - the charge socket and LED charge staus indicator is at the tip of the battery. Red for charging, green for fully charged.Next download the app and switch on the drone, connect to the drone on your phone by WiFi - disconnect from your home router, then find the drone and connect directly. It'll be named " FLOW_xxxxxx " where the "xxxxxx" indicates numbers. Then you can use the controls on your app plus or the controls on the remote itself. The remote control also has a built in phone holder that folds away if you are just using the supplied remote. If you notice, I'm using a decade-old Apple iPod Touch ! The app downloaded and worked absolutely fine to my surprise. Pictures and video actually look decent too. There's shortcut buttons on the remote to help take off and landing, the rest of it, you have to work out for yourself as there's no in depth instructions supplied, just a quick start guide. There's also x8 spare rotor blades included too with a little screwdriver - really easy to fit.Lastly, there's a 1080p camera at the front with tilt controls on the shoulders of the remote unit, use the drone itself as the panning function. There's some vibration isolation mounts on the camera to mitigate some of the effects of wind and the rotors. So, get the batteries charge, get outside and have some fun !Once you've used the batteries up, just store everything back in the supplied carrying case.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners drone
I have had a much more expensive starter drone in the past, which was very difficult to manoeuvre and quickly crashed and burned. I got this for my 14-year-old, and for it's price this is a very good starter drone. It is very lightweight and can only be used in minimal wind conditions. The instructions are absolutely terrible, and if it wasn't for me reading previous reviews, I wouldn't have got it going at all. Once you know, and I won't bore you with them all again, it's a breeze. I love the size and resistance in the joystick, making it easier to do the small, gentle manoeuvres you need as well as being able to place your phone it in for viewing. Some good functions, especially the lift off, as this can be the hardest to master. The picks are much better than expected for this level. I love the fact replacement blades are included, if you are new to drones then you are going to need these! Fabulous little hard case to carry. Overall, very good value for money.
2.0 out of 5 stars Temprimental and terrible instructions
Firstly, the instructions were terrible in my view. It was not at all clear what you are supposed to do.However, after some trial and error (mostly error) I got the Drone charged and switched on and the same with the controller. I then spent ages trying to link the two things up - this is something I had to repeat several times to get a kick out of the drone. The first flight I crashed it, the second I crashed it and cut my finger trying to grab it. I thought it had intelligent optical avoidance. There are buttons on the controller but its hard on some of them to determine their function to be honest.I would say the construction is definitely cheap hollow plastic but then again it has survived two crashed unharmed - so make what you will.At this price point its hard to justify if I am honest. I would look closely at alternatives as there are many.
5.0 out of 5 stars Family Drone Kids and Adults Love It
We've had other drones that didn't have cameras built in so this was a first to have one with that functionality. The instructions were a little lacking but it's not difficult to work out what to do. We had it up and running pretty quickly after charging and the controls are easy to get to grips with. The video is pretty clear and flying was no challenge for the adults. |We then let the kids have a turn and they seemed to get it quicker than the adults :)Overall, it's a great drone with a decent amount of functionality for the price. I would definitely recommend it.
3.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and cheerful, but instructions poor
Got this as it was labelled as ideal for beginners. In theory, it’s good value, with plenty of kit (3 batteries, cable, spare blades, screwdriver) you need in the box and carrying bag, to get you started.First thing to say is that the instructions are not great. Though, you can find labels for the buttons, it doesn’t actually tell you what to do as a beginner. So, it was a lot of trial and error. Fortunately, though it looks pretty fragile, it has withstood several crashes. The remote control is quite cheap and though the beeps serve a purpose (which you have to figure out for yourself!), they are pretty annoying. Have also had a couple of times where it didn’t pair, and I hadn’t understood you have to pair it every time. The app is ok but like the controller, you just have to guess what everything does. For example, I was puzzled why the video recording wasn’t saving to camera roll (iPhone), but eventually found that it saves the clips in the app and you export what you want (though to files, not camera roll). Was having quite a few issues with the app maintaining a connection. You connect via its own WiFi. But, my phone kept wanting to connect to my own home WiFi instead - so I disable the auto join on my own WiFi before using it. Finally figured out the controls, but they are pretty sensitive, which is good and bad. The lightness of the drone is positive from a portability perspective and to avoid the usage restrictions of heavier ones. However, you cannot use it if there is any wind at all - otherwise the breeze just takes it and it’s very difficult to control. When you’ve got used to it, it’s fine - though whilst actually flying forward, it dips down a bit, so you don’t get a perfectly level camera view. All in all, I’m sure that I’m part of the problem, and over time, may get better. But again, this was labelled as ideal for beginners.
Nice drone!
Nice drone,Super nice quality, the images are great as well.Very nice image quality. Will buy again!
More than a toy
This review is for the OKYUK drone with a 1080P camera. Before starting this review, I feel obliged to say that the high star rating that I have given is for a very inexpensive drone that is priced more in the toy category and should not be confused with an equally high rating for a DJI drone costing over a thousand dollars. This is an FPV drone weighing 200 grams, so it is exempt from FAA registration if flown under the Exception for Limited Recreational Operations. I was very surprised at the quality and capability of this drone. It doesn't look like a toy. It comes with a controller, 3 batteries each with 2000 mAh capacity, extra propellers, and a well-padded carrying case. I got about 10-15 minutes of flight time on a battery. The controller itself is rechargeable as well, so no other batteries are required.I think this drone is most suitable for flying in large indoor spaces, as it is highly susceptible to wind, partly due to its lightweight. Nonetheless, it can help a beginner learn to use joysticks to control pitch, yaw, and roll, which are similar on most drones. It has one button for take-off and landing. Beyond these features, it claims many more features, but to be honest, the instructions are abysmal. I learned more by experimenting (e.g., what happens if I push this button?). I crashed the drone too many times to count and still didn't learn all the features. That said, the drone survived the many crashes without damage and keeps on flying. To take video, you need a smartphone. I connected it via WiFi to an old iPhone 6 as that was the smallest and lightest phone I have. The controller has a bracket to hold the phone, but the phone kept slipping out, so I used two rubber bands to keep it in place ( see photo). You can fly without a phone, but with the phone connected, you can see the drone’s direction and record video and snap photos.I was able to get the drone to take off and fly with an additional 50 grams attached to it. Anything more than 50 grams, and it won't take off.Without GPS or any other geolocation capability, the return-to-home function doesn't bring it back to its take-off point. That said, what do you expect at this price point? What I do expect is a little better manual. I have attached photos of a couple of pages that show 90% of the operation instructions.
Manual is not very good, app is difficult to understand making it a challenge to operate the drone
The media could not be loaded. This Foldable RC Drone has some nice features that make it a bit more user friendly than some of the other drones available for purchase. The drone can be controlled with the included remote controller unit or with a smart phone connected to wifi. In either case there is a single button take off and landing which is great for users of all skill levels. This drone has an obstacle avoidance mode that can be used if desired, the camera can be rotated up or down, the user can capture individual photos and videos, the speed can be set to 30%, 60%, and 100% of full speed, and the user can select wether or not to operate in headless mode. The drone manual is not very clear and it took me quite a while to figure out how to operate even basic functions using the app. I still have not figured out how to rotate the camera up or down using the app so I have had to use the manual control unit to get the camera into the desired position before switching over to the app to fly the drone whenever I want to capture phots or videos. I have flown a couple other drones using an app on a smart phone and the operation of those drones using the app was much easier. I reached out to the vendor for this drone asking for better instructions for using the app but have yet to receive anything so my rating is only 2 stars.
Great value
This drone is a lot of fun, but you do need to be carful. I got this on promotion for $20, I see now that the price has gone up, but at the price I paid it's so much value it's hard to beat. Even at the new price compared to some of the more expensive options, like $1200, you still can't go wrong. When I think of some of the more expensive toys I bought for my kids that got played with once and got set aside, this can be played with by any age. This is a free flying drone, not controlled by GPS to stay where you put it. For that you need to shell out quite a bit more cash. So any amount of wind will move this drone, so you can't just park it in the sky and expect it to stay there, you have to actively fly it at all times. I did get into some situations where the drone was not able to move against the wind, then I remembered I had it still in default slow mode. This is good to learn how to fly, but I recommend putting it in the fastest mode soon after that.I only took a star off because of the connection routine needed to connect your phone, and the remote holder is not adequate for holding a phone. Mine was too big even out of the case, it would just slip out. It needs hooks that go over the edge of the phone to hold it in. They should just tell you to get the app from the play store instead of scanning the QR code that takes you to an exercise program. The auto take off and landing works like a champ. If you get into wind, you can still use auto land and at the same time move the drone to the landing spot, all the controls work in auto land. The low battery beeping gives you plenty of time to get the drone home and land, and then won't let the drone take off if the battery is too low.without the phone hooked up you can't take pictures, which is a bummer, but I am still having a blast flying this thing around.
