Having just started S1, my older daughter (aged 12) has started to show an interest in science while her younger sister (aged 11) was always making her own slime, so ordering this Science Experiments Advent Calendar from UNGLINGA was a complete no-brainer for me.Both my girls’ eyes lit up when they first saw it and I was initially a little worried they would fight over who would do what as there was such a great variety of activities to do.I wouldn’t expect any recipient of this to start on Day 1 and finish on Day 24, and like my two they’ll probably want to scan the included instructions (plastic coated & waterproof) and then cherry pick which ones they want to do first.While a small number of the activities are ‘use it & lose it’, such as smashing open the rock crystal, most of them actually provide sufficient ingredients to repeat the experiment 2 or even 3 times.This was great as each of my girls could have a go and if one of them messed up, they would have another shot at it.Target audience for this is probably 10+ and I was able to set a table up, leave out some kitchen roll and a couple of trays and then just left my two to get on with it.They both followed the instructions no problem and the only thing they had to ask for was a small hammer and some washing up liquid, which was required for a couple of the day’s activities.Obviously younger kids will get just as much fun from this kit, although I wouldn’t expect them to manage on their own and will need some adult help/supervision.I never got involved and from what I saw, all the experiments and activities my two attempted worked as expected and there were lots of gasps and smiles, which was really great to see.I have no hesitation in recommending this… especially considering its £24.00 price tag (at time of review - with discount) and the amount of ‘play time’ you get from it.As a warm-up before the chap in the red suit arrives, this Advent Calendar is definitely going to keep your kids entertained during those dark post school afternoons and evenings – my two absolutely loved it!

Got this for my son for December instead of the usual chocolate advent calendar.This set comes with 24 windows in varying size and behind each one is a scientific experiment. You get all sorts of stuff with this such as rocks, test tubes, food colouring, robots that draw! There’s tons of stuff in here.The calendar comes with an instruction manual which has the scientific principle behind each experiment that is being performed and easy to follow steps for children to follow. The book is easily laid out and easy to understand with pictures and easy to read language.The box is huge too! Really surprised me how buoy this is. You can actually open this from the top and slide out the inner carcass with all the experiments in. Good job I did as there’s only cardboard separating the experiments behind each window and some of it had folded and the experiments had moved into each others spaces. Easy to fix but worth checking first to avoid the disappointment of an empty window! Would have been much better if it was a plastic separator.Overall, I’m really happy with this calendar. Despite the very slight niggle above, this is an incredible advent calendar that has some great little experiments and will give you and your child something scientific to build and perform every day through December. Such a neat idea and much better than a boring chocolate! Great fun.

I cannot wait till Dec to see this in action, my granddaughter will love this, she is very curious about how things do what they do and this will be perfect for her.With 24 experiments there is enough there to keep her occupied till the big day arrives.
