5.0 out of 5 stars Worked well
The Furniture Clinic Rust Remover for Metal arrived as described and the bottle I received looks just like the photos advertised.I got this product to remove rust from my gate in the garden, the instructions were clear to follow and required little to no effort. Within 20 minutes all the rust had come off the gate with ease without having to scrub or scrape. It has left my 20 year old gate looking like new again and I'm very happy I discovered this product. It has a low odor compared to other rust removers I've used in the past.10/10 would recommend!
4.0 out of 5 stars Best for light rust
Firstly, I'd like to say never underestimate chemicals when you are using them. If they are strong enough to remove rust then just think what they can do to your eyes or skin! It's so easy to flick liquids into your eyes accidentally so I would advise you always wear safety goggles, wear gloves and protect your work surface with newspaper etc, preferably outdoors. That said, this rust remover gel is easy to use - ensure you have cleaned off the worst debris on your surface before you start and then apply the gel. I found that it worked fine on light surface rust but was not so effective on ingrained deep rust. So, depending on your needs, you may need something stronger although this is fine for light work.
5.0 out of 5 stars Effective Rust Removal but Requires Patience for Heavier Build-Up
I purchased the Furniture Clinic Rust Remover Gel because I needed something to tackle some rusty garden furniture that had seen better days. The non-drip gel formula seemed ideal for vertical surfaces, and I liked the idea that it could work on both interior and exterior surfaces, as I had some rusty tools in the shed that also needed attention. The application process was straightforward. The gel consistency made it easy to apply, especially on awkwardly shaped areas where liquid solutions might run off. It clings to the surface well, so I didn’t have to worry about it dripping all over the place, which is a big plus if you’re working on vertical surfaces like metal railings or bike frames. For lighter rust spots, the product works quickly. I applied it, waited about 30 minutes, and wiped away the rust with a cloth. It left the metal looking clean and bare, ready for priming or painting. However, on heavier rust, I found it needed more than one application. Even after leaving it on for over an hour, the rust didn’t completely disappear in some areas, so I had to go back and reapply a couple of times. It eventually worked, but it does require a bit of patience for tougher jobs. What I appreciated is that the gel didn’t have a strong chemical smell, which made using it indoors more tolerable. It’s also easy to clean up with just water, which is handy when you’re done working. After the rust is removed, it leaves the metal surface smooth and ready for any further treatments, like a protective coating or paint. The 250ml bottle is enough for small to medium projects, but if you’re tackling something larger, you might need more. I used about half the bottle on my garden furniture and a few tools, so if you have a bigger job in mind, consider stocking up.Overall, the Furniture Clinic Rust Remover is effective, especially for lighter rust, but you may need to repeat the process for deeper rust spots. It’s easy to apply, stays where you put it, and doesn’t have a harsh smell, which makes it a great option for anyone looking to restore rusted metal surfaces without a mess. If you don’t mind reapplying for more severe rust, it’s a reliable product that gets the job done.
5.0 out of 5 stars It does the job
If you think this will magically get rid of rust then you are slightly mistaken. It will do it but you have to prepare the surface first and then apply this remover and scrub for a bit. However, it does remove little dots of rust well. Is it very efficient? Sort of. On more rusty metals you will need to apply it twice or more times but it still depends on how well you prepare the surface first and how much rubbing and scrubbing you will do.Overall, good product to remove rust
3.0 out of 5 stars thick and easy to apply; strong odour; no more effective than using a simple baking soda and vinegar
This solution, while thick and easy to apply without running all over the place, has an odour that is sharp, chemical, and quite unpleasant—pungent enough to make you step back for a moment. What puzzles me is the lack of details regarding all the ingredients in its formula. Aside from the warning on the bottle, which states it "contains reaction mass of: 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one [EC no. 247-500-7] and 2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one [EC no. 220-239-6] (3:1)," there is not much else to go on.If these chemicals are what is doing the heavy lifting, it would explain why, when I tried it on a patch of rust on the gates, it didn’t do much at all. These ingredients are typically found in fungicides, antimicrobials, and preservatives, often for antibacterial or antifungal purposes in industrial settings. Rust removal, though? Not their strong suit.I followed the instructions—preparing the rusty surface, applying the gel for 15 minutes, and reapplying—but it barely made a dent in the rust. I reckon I could have got the same result with a good scrub and a bit of elbow grease, perhaps using a simple baking soda and vinegar paste. All in all, this rust removal gel didn’t live up to my expectations, and I certainly wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Furniture Clinic Rust Remover
This is a highly effective rust remover, it really does exactly what you need it for with no real hassle or mess. This is a gel like product which is great for doing jobs with no mess or splashes etc.You need to use this somewhere with decent ventilation, not in small rooms etc.You need to wear gloves and you really do not want this going in your eyes so goggles would be advised.Simply, remove all excess rust, wipe clean, then apply this, give it a good rub on and then leave for 30 – 60 minutes (less if only light rust) then wipe off. This is likely to remove all rust, really heave rust may require a second application. Results really are excellent and it is almost mess free.Top quality, does what it says on the tin! Highly recommended
