5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Monitor

    D. · 24 June 2024

This (Phillips Evnia 49 inch OLED, 240Hz) is a great monitor. I use it with a Ryzen 7900x cpu, an AMD 7800xt GPU, 64gigs DDR, and x670 Carbon mobo. I have never had any issues with Freesync flickering or monitor scan lines. HDR works perfectly and Microsoft even have a HRD Calibration Tool which you can find in the Windows 11 app store. The monitor has a menu toggle button on the back but it also comes with a remote control which I find much more convenient to use. There are numerous screen presets built into the Phillips software depending on twhether you want to game or do productivity stuff. I've found that to get the full 240Htz refresh rate you have to use the HDMI connection. The colours are rich and the blacks are deep with no blooming around bright object. You can also download the Phillips SmartControl software to youe PC which enables you to arry our other calibrations and updates to the monitor. Best of all, the monitor comes with a long warranty to ally all your fears about OLED monitor reliability.Every 4 hours the monitor has a pop up appear (you can switch this reminder 'off' in the setup menu) to remind you to press the down arrow on the remote control to engage the build in pixel refresh utility. If you miss this, the pop up reappears are a further 2 hours. The monitor has a glossy rather than matt screen which is apparently better for allowing colour accuracy because matt screens diffuse and scatter light. The monitor works best in a dim room where bright sunlight or overhead lights dont reflect on the screen. My personal experience has been that this is a fantastic monitor. I upgraded from a HP Omen 32 (2K) monitor which runs at 75Hz. I've found that some AAA games really make the OLED monitor colours pop out even without HDR enabled, while others are somewhat lacking. This is clearly down to the actual game itself. Frame rates are buttery smooth with AMD Freesync Premium Pro and there is absolutely no screen tearing. As, i mentioned, I use a 7800xt GPU and have no problem playing any game as long as I dont really crank up the ray tracing to the max. When I did email Phillips with a general enquiry, they were prompt to respond and actually called me up which was a pleasant suprise. They get 10/10 in my books for their customer service. So, from my personal experience using the Phillips Evnia 49 inch OLED monitor, "yes", this is a monitor I would recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars No regrets, so far.

Of the three monitors in this class, competing with the Alienware and the Samsung, the Philips is priced far cheaper and at similar spec. This made me a bit wary as I got it for £570 which is nearly half the price of a undiscounted Samsung G7. However, I'm really impressed by the Philips. It was packed well and comes with all the cables you would need for any setup and includes a vesa adaptor which fit easily to my desk arm. Only downside is that it's a little wobbly of your desk is unstable. The build quality and finish makes it looks and feels like a quality product and I like the gloss film on the display. It's white too so goes with my all white setup. The brightness can be quite dark in some games and it took time for my eyes to adjust to the change. Still unsure if this is just an OLED thing or if I need to tamper with settings more. Either way, most games look great and the depth of blacks was hugely noticeable coming from ips displays.I never paid a huge attention to response times however I've not really noticed much of a difference. Dunno if that's good or bad but I don't play a huge amount of FPS games anyway so I don't really have the eye for it.I was expecting a dip in frames due to the increase in resolution from 27 inch 1440p but everything I've played to date has had no real noticeable drop in performance. The panel care software which prompts a pixel refresh every 4 hours is nowhere near as big a problem as folk make it out to be. Takes a few minutes and you can pause and reactive it whenever it suits you.Overall it's been great and has drawn me back into gaming. If I had bought a £999 Samsung and got similar/mildly better results I think I'd be suffering from some real buyers remorse but at the price point I got the Philips it for, I really have no complaints.

    La perfezione non esiste...

    D.F. · 13 September 2024
