5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent functionality
I’ve had one of the OG Lumi lamps for years. While I liked it, being limited to 30 min wake up simulation was annoying as I found myself waking up long before my alarm time. It also got very hot. This does everything I wanted and better! It’s a really compact but bright light. The choice of 10, 20, 30 sunlight simulation is the main reason I bought it! Choice of two alarms for weekday and weekend is great too.The speakers are good however the lowest volume is still quite loud for radio. You can choose to wake up to chime, beep, birds, radio or no noise. I prefer no noise. The sleep sunset sleep setting you can set for 15, 30, 60mins and it ends with a red light which is very relaxing. I haven’t tried the sleep noises. You can also dim or turn off the display at night.I’ve gotten rid of my beside lamp as this is touch and you’ve many lighting options. It doesn’t get hot either. My only con would be that it can be confusing to get your head around some settings at the start. But once you set it up once it’s easy and intuitive. The instructions are goodI think the price is fair as it’s decent quality and doesn’t feel flimsy. I can’t comment on battery life as I leave it plugged in.
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfectly bright, functional and portable
Update 09/02/22:After a couple of months use I can honestly say this thing is brilliant (no pun intended!)I've got used to the brightness of the light and & now have it in front of me on my desk all day until 4 or 5 pm. It helps keep me focused & alert, and my insomnia's clearly improved. Despite some very difficult circumstances, I feel its also helping to keep depression at bay.Original review:This was a great purchase - I had a very expensive SAD lamp about 12 years ago that was 3 or 4 times the size of this and very bulky. That one got broken last time we moved, so because my mood's been low recently and my sleep cycle's really messed up, I decided it was time to invest in a new one.I bought this particular model because it was the cheapest SAD lamp I could find from a reputable manufacturer. I was sceptical that such a tiny lamp could be any good, but I'm happy to have been proved wrong. Yes, it's tiny size means you either need to have it very close to your face or use it for longer than my old lamp to get the full effect, but because it's so dinky, it's easy to whip out and switch on anywhere there's a plug socket. The lead on the plug is over 5 ft long (about 155 cm) which has been plenty for my needs, but an extension lead could always be used if required.Since my lamp arrived 3 days ago I've placed it on the table in front of me each morning whilst eating breakfast - it's easily propped up using the little stand provided. However the best thing for me was realising I can pop it in the tablet slot on my desk whilst I'm working (see photos). Initially this obscured my laptop screen, but the box the lamp came in was just the right size to raise my laptop to the right height! The lamp does feel very bright so close to my face, and I believe working like this for too long would probably cause a headache, but it's easy to switch the lamp on and off, so I'm using it in short bursts throughout the day, which (for me at least) seems the best way to use it.Beurer's official blurb states the light therapy takes about 7 days to take effect. I've not had it that long,so I can't vouch for this lamp's longer-term effects, but over two days of regular use, I feel it's made me a little more positive and alert by day, and best of all, I fell asleep by 11:30 pm last night and stayed asleep until morning which is virtually unheard of! Having said that, I've also just switched from CBD to Valerian as a calmer/sleep aid, so how much of this can be attributed to the lamp I don't know. There seems to be plenty of scientific evidence online to back the manufacturers claims for this lamp. My gut feeling is that the lamp will have a substantial role to play in resolving seasonal low mood and sleep issues, but only as part of a wider strategy that includes eating healthily, physical exercise, practicing some kind of mindfulness, sleep hygeine, and supplementing with relevant vitamins & minerals (most Brits need D3 during winter months, plus many are deficient in B12, B6, magnesium, iodine & omega 3 fatty acids). As I was already working on other lifestyle factors, I'm hoping this lamp will be the final piece of the puzzle.I'll try and remember to add an update in a few week's time to comment on any longer-term effects, but, so far, so good :)Conclusion: this tiny & low-priced lamp seems well made, is just as effective as my previous much larger model, and is incredibly easy to use, store or carry around.
4.0 out of 5 stars A revelation
Never thought light could make such a difference. This 10,000 LUX light sits next to our coffee and tea station in the kitchen and brightens my mood and wakes me up a treat. Both my wife and I have felt a noticeable positive effect straight away. This unit is cool - both literally and metaphorically - due to its LED technology. It is also light and good looking, around the size of a tablet computer. Although it does need to be plugged in (it's 12 volts and requires decent current) this unit is easy to move around. It is also able to perch safely on small ledges, which is great (I did read reviews of previous generation tube-based solutions that seemed unwieldy).Maybe not a bargain, but my research has revealed that not any "daylight spectrum" bulb will do. This puts a medically correct solution in an easy to use package.
5.0 out of 5 stars Helps the winter blues
Bought 2 of these one for me & one for my niece as we both get the winter blues. Bought this last yr due to feeling very low - since covid I work from home so little opportunity to go out during the day. This lamp was so useful and I feel definitely helped my mood. Was also less expensive than John Lewis which was a bonus
5.0 out of 5 stars Has helped SAD.
This little item has helped my daughter get through the dark winter months a d has helped her enormously with her SAD problems. It is very good quality, easy to use, portable and very bright. Use it in the kitchen, when eating and even at work if possible. Definitely recommend.
5.0 out of 5 stars No more sadness
Light is great and the portability is good. Would like to see usb-c to light it up, this would make a big difference.
3.0 out of 5 stars Could work for some
Certainly very bright, seems well made, easy to use, and I like the carry case that comes with it. However, it turns out that some people can experience nausea as a side effect of using a SAD lamp, and sadly I am one of them. Had I been able to continue using it, I think I would have struggled with finding a way of keeping it close enough to my face for the time specified whilst working.
