Thoughtful and valuable
Lovely book written by someone who understands. The purposeful walk-through of working through everything that comes with the loss of a pet was very helpful. I would have liked to have read this book right after the loss of our dog, but even now, over a year later, I found help and solace by reading this book.

Wonderfully written book. I have experienced this before and this book can be useful to others.
I love how the author started the book explaining the connection a pet and their owners have, many people don’t understand this connection. From their non-verbal under conditional love, the author really dwells into the details of this relationship. The author then going into details into the acceptant of the pet loss, giving advice and reason how to deal with your personal feelings. Losing a pet can feel worst than losing a family member to some people and the author really provides great insight on how to deal with your experiences and why you are feeling this way. The book provides so valuable coping strategies, some will work for you and other for others. I for one never understood why a family member would be grieving so much when they lost their pet until I was placed into that position. I am glad the author went into details on this topic, understanding and how to comfort and provide support to others. Another great topic was the memorialization of the pet. I kept my dogs’ collar. I still watch it and smile, another great topic covered by the author. I have also written a book about my pet another great self-help strategy covered in this book. This is a great useful book for people dealing with pet loss and I wish I came across this years ago when my puppy Kutchi died.
Helpful and Heartwarming
Recently, we experienced a real scare with our beloved Maltese Shih Tzu. Suddenly, he stayed in his basket all day, looking sad. No more tail wagging, no more enthusiastic greetings at the door, and no more snuggles. He wouldn't go for walks and was off his food. After several anxious visits to the vet, we discovered he had arthritis. He is only eight, so we were shocked to learn that he is already classified as a senior dog. This made me think about how Bob would likely leave us long before we're ready to say goodbye.I bought this book to start preparing and thinking through my feelings about our doggy companion's mortality. This book helped. I particularly liked the section on explaining a dog's death to a child—I thought this was particularly well-handled. The chapter on different types of grieving and how they relate to the manner of your pet's death (sudden or drawn out natural or euthanasia) was thoughtful and a good distinction to make. I'm not sure about all the rituals with which to remember them, but I have taken a lock of Bob's floor as a keepsake against the terrible day we have to say goodbye, so maybe there's something in it!This book offers much to those struggling with losing their beloved pet and can provide real comfort and tools to help you get through.
